1. Keep your eyes on those Ozen Panthers! This group has at least 8 to 10 possible D-I future players! Odom & Southpark middle schoolstalented groups are on this team and have attracted players from other schools to join them! They won the small & big school football championships and were dominant in basketball, very good in track as well! I think this group will definetly be hard to defeat this season and help Coach Magee's program! Don't Believe Me, Just Watch!  8)
 2.

I think they may still be doing private tryouts.
I heard the kids who took lessons from the coach have made the team, how many more spots will they fill for the elite team and also the premier team?
That just might be the case! My son ran the fastest time, fielded outfield and infield well with strong accurate throws and even pitched well, hitting was average that day for a 3 week layoff! My other son fielded 1st base really well digging out everything, pitched well and is a very good outfielder, hitting was average and running! They surprisingly did not make the team and they were better than most of the competition! Oh well, what God has for them is for them so I guess this isn't there time!
 3.

I believe both programs will reach their potential through the growing pains. Experience is the best teacher. Although I still believe too many of the kids spend way too much time on the summer circrcuit & not enough time working on their weaknesses. The 3 point shot is the worst shot in basketball, but if you venture out to your pee wee league games 7-10 yr olds jack 'em up like layups. The laws of basketball says even your greatest hall of famers will only shoot 50% from the field (that was back in the day) and even less from 3 pt area.  In today's basketball the 2pt & 3 pt are separated to give an illusion these guys can shoot.  My advice to any kid with dreams of playing ball beyond High School is to play hard nosed defense & hustle. Those 2 qualities will have you on any roster and many times guarantee you a starting role. Take the road least traveled, everyone wants to score, no one wants to DEFEND. The latter wins Championships (Not talking about District Champ) in Bumblebee land those don't count. So to wrap this up I will say to our Beaumont Ballers, Defend the perimeter & Defend the paint and you may have a chance to play in March. That is what you are playing for right???  If your Goal is to finally Win the outright District Championship you have already LOST Mighty Bumblebees
Amen! Now if the kids can just buy into it
4. I really feel they do all of these things at times! Consistency and team cohesiveness is what is missing in my opionion! I do feel that Ozen will be 20-4a District Champs! There Coaches will have to step their game up to win the big games and I truely believe there guard depth & play is ahead of most teams they will face! Boatner & Wyngard will be better on the block this year and the twins will be very helpful this year along with the other remaining 4 big men they will have available to help wear down other teams big men! Jodan, Jared, DeMascus, Ryan, Boyd can all light it up, making it difficult to contain one person! They will "Turn It Up!" Don't Believe me just watch! And Dove, I know you will be watching! ;)

Reliable sources says Toe-Toe will be a Jag this season! Good for Central's playoff run! They should be very good again this year! Ozen should also be very good and balanced with good ball handlers, shooters and deapth on the blocks! It's funny how now-a-days there would be a conversation of whether these schools could beat Nederland for a District Title? They have some good players and a good head Coach but has Central & Ozen kids/coaches fallin' off that much? When I played it was an automatic 20 to 30 point victory because we played hard, smart, did what we were told to do and simply refused to loose! Oh, I get it the rolls have reversed, it's not all about atheleticism because Central & Ozen definetly have that! Seriosly though, if these players mindset and work-ethic change the only conversation for 20-4a District would be who will be the 3rd & 4th playoff teams after Central & Ozen! Jumping doesn't assure rebounds as much as blocking-out!
"but has [s]Central[/s] & Ozen kids/coaches fallin' off that much? " JRidge, let me ask you a question in order to help answer your question  ;) Okay, you watch Ozen players during their games, do they: 1. Play hard?  2. Do they play smart?    3. Do what they are told to do?  4. Do they refuse to loose? Just asking your opinion.  ;)
5. I love this kid, on & off the court! Inteligent, bright young man, he and his brother! They both are very atheletic and could raise eyebrows on the football or track if they wanted! I'm impressed with this kids basketball IQ and ability to get his shots off anywhere on the floor! As he improves his first step (which is pretty good) and matures into the leadership role on his team, he & his brother can very well lead there team to state! Jared sometimes get's over-shadowed but works hard defensively & knocks down big shots, a solid ball player! Very good students as well, parents are proud of them I'm sure, they did a good job raising them!

 7. I watched the Saints head coach get suspended for his actions! I watch MLB baseball players get suspended for there actions! Why is it that programs get suspended or band and not the players or persons involved with wrong-doings only? Everyone on the team is not guilty and the bad apples get to spoil the whole bunch! Noone would want to do time for someone elses mistakes! Grown People Have Their Own Mind & Do What They Want To Do!
 8. Of course you missed the subtleties in the statement! "Illegal Practices" that would fall under coaching or calling plays when you're not suppose to! Don't know if that actually happened and if rules are broken there should be consequences! Coaches should be penalized not the kids because if rules were broken the one's in-charge are responsible for overseeing there program! Let the playoff races continue as the schools programs aren't responsible for the coaches decisions neither are the kids! Coaches come and go as often coaching jobs are their stepping stones to something greater! Coaxing a child to attend your school via recruting or having illegal practices, playing ineligible players, things like this are really rule infractions! It's puzzling to me because I come from an area when loosing to Nederland, Vidor, PNG, LCM, Lumberton never happened! Nederland has dominated the past few years but seems like there just might be a challenge for a new king of the hill! Hopefully UIL will allow the 20-4a race to the playoffs to be determined on the field! 10. AthleticSupporter-Jock, I feel you on this one! I too was raised the same and realise this is the case, mostly with yong parents! Respect is to be given whether or not it is reciprocated! The parents then should address the disrespectful coach and not the child! Society has twisted it around and you then get kids with disrespectful attitudes and outrageous behavior like an Aaron Hernandez who feels he can do what he wants if someone disrespects him! We must becareful what we teach our kids!
There's a big difference right there.  Many kids are now taught that they only have to respect the adult/coach if the child is also respected.  If I would have told my dad that I quit, talked back or acted out because the coach disrespected me, I would have been getting a real beating at home.  I admit I'm out of touch with the younger parents today.  For some, it seems perfectly logical that Aaron Hernandez would throw away tens of millions cuz his buddy disrespected him.  Hernandez represents the mindset of many parents of school age children today. 11. Now Buddy Garrity, that was funny, true and funny! I'm a WB graduate and hope they do well but feel they are not deep or strong enough at certain positions to be successful in 21-5a! 12. Bluedove3 are you saying that kids should not be taught to respect adults like we were taught! My kids are taught this way still and told if an adult get's out of line with you, stay in a childs place and let theparents who are adults deal with the adults! Kids don't have to agree with the teacher or coaches way of coaching, to me they are there to learn what they have to teach them! Of course I do believe we had better teachers in the past then now but our responsibility is to teach our kids how to be respectful and learn to follow instructions before they can lead and give them! The question is; can a talented team win state without players/parents believing in and supporting there coach! A house divided can not stand, but who's system or phylosophy should players follow, their's or their coaches? Should the coach follow his own phylosophy and system or should he follow the players? If the talent is average or nearly equal to the opponent, coaching can be the difference. A players belief in his coach(es) derives from his communication skills, practice and game organization, evaluation and adaption to player skill sets, his self-discipline and his abillity to hold everyone associated with the program equally accountable for TEAM success. This even sometimes hurts them in the future dealing with bosses or spouses, they often leave their job or marriage because they haven't learned to support somethig or someone they don't fully agree with! 14. Shooter, intelligent and accurate responce in my opinion! Few coaches posses all of these qualites but many get by with a few of these and good talent! Legendary coaches are legendary because they mainly posses and consistently utilize these skills and winbig often! 16. PA4Life, I totally agree! Are you considered a good coach if you have a talented team that makes playoff runs but can't win the big one? Are wins and losses overrated whenit comes to developing kids to have good morals, character, become good students and learn to become successful after basketball? I guess a good coach to each is based on what one values most! Humm, what does eveyone think about this!
If you are a good coach, to become a great coach you are supposed to coach at the players ability.  As a coach you should know how to adjust your game plan to fit your players style.  In high school you can adjust your game plan because players change often.  But in college and pros, you recruit or draft players that fit your style of play.
17. I believe in strategy and versatility! I am a chess player therefor I approach games openly knowing that some strategies may work on some opponents and not others! Everyone would learn my system because I wouldn't change it year after year but of course it would vary from a half court to an up tempo! Colleges have the luxury of seeking players that would fit there program while H.S you get what you get! If I have speed at each position and good ball handlers then I play to my strengths but you will need to be able to execute a half court game from time to time! If my bigs have the advantage then I must feed them! Well, I still believe that a team can do well with good talent and players and parents who support the coach and work hard for him! To win against equal or better talent, the coach who can recognize how to attack the other teams weakness and make adjustments as needed and players execute, usual can win the big one's! Remember, everyone from the coach, players, parents and fans goal is to win and a divided front can't stand nomatter what offense or defense they run! 19. Ok, everyone who is familiar with district 20-4a knows that Central & Ozen will be under a microscope, especially from disgruntaled former employees and opponents who are in the same playoff birth hunt! Some of the acqusations maybe warrented on Centrals part and Ozen's violatons were already noted, there name was added to help bolster this story! Westbrook Coaches, according to several incoming freshmen have blatenly violated recruitng rules and continue to be disclosed! If the coaches are wrong then they should be held accountable and not the players or school! They are hired to follow the guidelines and if their selfishness and unwillingness to follow rules remain then they should be reprimanded! Right is right and wrong is wrong no matter what school it is! Don't teach the kids to win at any and all cost!
 20. Some people like apples some like oranges! Some like to play with competition to get better, some like to face less to look great! Or, it could be coaching style preference or personality conflicts! Who knows, each school getting kids scholarships is what's important! Congrats to all especially the youngsters who will be getting a free education!
Congrats.  She went to Odom, which is zoned for Ozen.  So, is Ozen not an option.  I figure that since Ozen has probably the best girls program in SETX, she would want to go and be coached under Coach Brown...
21. Didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings but as a former graduate of Westbrook H.S. and as I too have family at both schools, I do know that WB only really wants kids that can help their programs! They don't want kids their who are disciplinary problems! It's really no secret that if their school could resemble Forest Park of the past, several people in that area would be happy! They still receive some of the best teachers in the District and as Ozen's P.T.A and overall parent involvement increase, the academic level should continue to increase! IJS
 22. Some kids live in the Woodlands Apts area and behind Ozen near the local YMCA and are zoned all the way to Vincent! Also kids who live near Fhel Elementry are zoned to Marshall Middle School! All those kids should be headed to Ozen because it is less than 2 miles away! Reality, Westbrook is getting more than they deserve to keep them a 5a school! IJS
 23. Yes maybe you are right but someone's past doesn't always dictate their future! As for them all attending Ozen well let's just say Central & Westbrook Coaches are hard at work trying to entice! Especially the Mitchel kid but don't think there promises will get him to switch though! I do believe though what's for you; is for you so which ever school lands him will have a very good athlete! I wish them all the best because I am a Beaumont school supporter!
 24. Maybe so, not fully sure of that but I have heard rumors! The other two, of the three or just as good in their positions and all I can say is that group will be special! They all will have 4 years of elgibility and I am quite sure that there are rumors of kids in other schools with the same academic history!  :o Lol
 25. The team/ players I can't wait to see is Ozen's incoming talented Freshman group! If Ozen can stop Central & Westbrook Coaches from recruiting the kids from South Park & Odom, then MaGee will definitely have an opportunity for multiple playoff runs! Top Players: Calvin "Lil' C" Tyler (Odom, RB/S)                         Jawon Mitchel (SP, QB/RB/S)                         Joe Thomas (SP, RB/LB)                         Jamie (3 J) Wheaton (Odom, LB/QB/WR)                       Elishah "Li Li" Simpson (SP, WR/QB/CB) These 5 young men are some of the best multi-sport atheletes in Southeast Tx and along with a strong supporting cast that's following, should impact the Panthers athletic programs in the upcoming years! Don't believe me just watch!  ;)
