  1. I believe you are hitting the problem right on the head. There are many problems with a lot of schools these days and pay is certainly one of those problems. Most would debate this topic for hours, but of all the coaches I know that LOVED coaching and still left the profession anyway it was due to what seems to be the same issues over and over again... PAY ( most assistant coaches that work in a winning program usually work about 70-80 hrs a week during season and probably 55 hrs a week out of season. There is no such thing as having summers off anymore. If your program is successful, most likely your program is getting after it and training during the summer also in order to improve your kids. Most coaches are ok w/ working the long hours, but to do all that, work those kinds of hours all year and still only make $55k-$70k / year...? Some just find that is not worth the time. ) Weak Administrations/Discipline ( There is a disease going through most schools these days when it comes to administrators cow tailing to griping parents in regards to discipline in the school. I was at my kid's school last semester and I wanted to puke at all the kids just casually walking through the halls cussing like sailors [ MF this, stupid B!&@h that, I don't give a F*#&, etc... just openly not caring 1 bit who heard them. I asked the office personnel why in the world kids were talking like that, and they responded "they always do". I wanted to puke. You also have the teachers constantly pleading with administrators to help FORCE kids to act right in the classroom, stop cussing in the classroom, quit being disrespectful in the classrooms... and they say it just falls on deaf ears. Nothing ever gets done about it. Forced Academic Policies ( teacher being forced to allow kids to keep doing work until they pass when the kid absolutely refused to do anything, turn in any work or give any effort academically for entire grading periods/semesters. I am 100% in agreement with doing absolutely everything a person can to help kids. But like when the kids has missed 20 days in a semester, hasn't turned in 1 single assignment in 2 weeks, and when they do show up to class they are disrespectful to teachers; and then when the kid finds out he/she won't graduate with classmates, the parents come up to the school and throw a fit. And the result is the administration just puts the kid into credit recovery classes and do some kind of little computer credit and gets credit for the entire class and passes and graduates. I agree with the teachers - that is complete Bullsh!%...!!!! ) Completely Idiotic and Unrealistic Parents ( Parents who come to the school and go bezerk on people b/c there is "no way that little Johnny/Suzie did that", you ( the coach/teacher ) are lying and have some sort of horsesh!@ prejudice against their kid. The kid has only been written up or tried to be discipline 15 times already this semester, but "Johnny/Suzie didn't do anything wrong." And then on the sports side of it... Little Johnny/Suzie who is 5'6", 160 lbs, runs like an elephant and jumps like a sloth, catches w/ frying pan hands, and throws like a 6 yr old - "should be going D1 to Alabama..!!!" You ( the coach ) are "just trying to screw my kid over. He was 4x All Star during little league." Stuff like this where parents are completely off the reservation on seeing their kids w/ blinders on. This new "everybody gets a trophy", "don't hurt anyone's feelings", "we are all the same and we are all equal regardless of talent/skill/work ethic/preparation/desire" is DESTROYING our country and our kids.
  2. AD Nations has ties to the NC coaching staff... not surprised by this. Well, best of luck to the Broncos.
  3. This is very true. A complete game changing talent, that has been corrupted by the hype. He needs to get away from all the idiots and entourage whispering poison into his ear and get help from people that want the best for him. He's still a kid and I hope he starts heading down the right track to help him get back on path for his future. I hope the best for him.
  4. I have been a long time fan of Dayton, but I must say this is recipe for disaster. The former coach that completely ran the program into the ground was retained as AD. So Dayton is gonna hire a HC for FB whose boss will be the guy who destroyed that same FB program? Yikes... I hope the program starts turning back around, just not sure this dynamic is going to work.
  5. If Bmt. United wants to move towards the modern era of FB with an explosive Offense, they should hire Brandon Craus. When he left Dayton as OC like 7 years ago, they were a very good Offense that scored well over 30+ pts every game. Then he left and went up to Groveton as AD/HC and in less than 1 year turned that program around and went on an Offensive Explosion there too. I believe he ended up sending like 3 kids from a 2A school into college to play. I would love to see him at a school where he has lots of athletes to choose from and great facilities.
  6. I think BH has a rough road to hoe w/ Manvel, but I am hoping they win. I would like to see them move into the deeper rounds of the playoffs.
  7. Uh... yeah. I don't see how this makes any sense at all?
  8. Personally I can't stand the "4 Teams to the playoffs" set up. I agree that getting to the playoffs "used" to be something special, but now you have 1-9, 2-8 teams getting in. But in any event, if the UIL has the rules set up like that and a losing team gets in... then they should go out and play to win too. I don't like it, but when this does happen... it is a chance for the much better team to get the younger/less experienced kids some playoff experience.
  9. Alright...!!!! HF's program is back from the dead..!!! Congratulations HF, got the program back to winning again. Good Luck the rest of the way, it's nice to see them get some wins again like the old days.
  10. Hey, I gotta give Crosby a little bit... They could have just fallen and stayed down, but they didn't. They continued to play hard and got better. When I saw Crosby play Dayton, I didn't think Crosby was any good at all, I just knew that Dayton was terrible. But they got better, and put together some wins. Congrats.
  11. No more true of a statement has ever been said. It is sickening to think how badly they have fallen. It is time to make changes. This isn't working.
  12. Yes, you are right... "The goal IS to win state". You should try to win every single game. But one of the most important parts of HS Athletics is to teach a few life lessons regarding honesty, character, hard work and integrity along the way. You should try to win every single time you play. You should try to do your best every time you play. You should work your a** off everyday to develop yourself into the best you can be ( that's Coaches/Players/Administrators/Program ). If you intentionally quit on a game to lose for a "better match up" that is absolute cowardice. So, you only wanna play if your think you can win. You only wanna play if you're matched evenly, you only wanna play if they have the same amount of players as you. Well I got news for you... That is NOT how life works. You can't always even the odds so you have a better chance of success. You can't just only "play" if you think you can win. I will say it again, and I'll be done with this... If you lose on purpose ( easier opponent, better match up, etc. ) you are a COWARD.
  13. I could not read the article due to a subscription, but from what I gather from the title of it... this is just despicable. I can not believe this happened. Shameful.
  14. Any coach that loses on purpose, should never be allowed to coach again. I’d be more forgiving of a coach that “Woody Hayes'd” a kid than one that would lose on purpose.
  15. I highly doubt they lost on purpose. Do you have evidence of that statement? Cause if you don’t, then you might not want to suggest that they did. Otherwise, you are calling into question the integrity of their coaches.
  16. The mere suggestion of the idea to lose on purpose to "try and get a better playoff line up" makes me sick. Anyone that agrees with that kind of thought process is an idiot and I hope and pray they are nowhere near kids to poison their minds with that crap.
  17. Whoa, what happened here? It was just a few weeks ago and Tarkington was playing real well. Did they lose a bunch of kids to grades or something...?
  18. Man, why doesn't Burkeville stop these massacres? They should drop to 1A like High Island did several years back and at least give their kids a chance for success. I hate to see that they just get blasted every week. Especially when this once was a very good small Football school, now they just get hammered.
  19. Dang Huffman is playing really well. Congrats, I hope y'all can carry that into the playoff and make a run.
  20. Looks like BH is in the driver's seat for the District Title.
