West Brook @ Katy-Predictions
Popa Blu replied to 82 5A State Champs's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I agree WB is basically carrying a knife to a gun fight, but this might be a trap game for Katy. I think it might be a closer contest than most people think. We typically give Katy's running game fits, with our defense. With a freshman starting at RB, it could be interesting. Our secondary needs to be ready, because if we slow down their running game, Haack will surely go to work throwing the ball around. I think Katy wins, but may not be the blowout people expect. Still behind my Bruins!
I agree with this. The thing that hurt us Friday was the two kids in secondary having the collision. Both were 1st year starters on varsity, BUT the best we have. So consequently we were more open to the pass which allowed IKE to hurt us a bit. With that said, "if" the D-Line can at least hold and not get pushed back, we will do well against the run, but if they keep getting pushed back a frosh rb with a good OL can make the night long. Celaya has installed a kind "jumbo" DT package that we saw a bit Friday. On last year, we held the DL firm and had good LB play. This year everyone is "green" at there defensive position, even Bluiett. I think if we can weather the early storm. Katy, N.S, Lufkin, and maybe even PA will have enough to jump on us quick "if" we play to our experience. So, they boys must either step it up at the first whistle and/or weather the storm and work back. Last year, we gave Katy the ball (? times) inside the 30 over and over and even our good D could not take it. The boys must do what I said earlier (great start or weather the storm) and "protect the ball". No turnovers and penalties. We should have no false starts with all seniors on the OL. The coaches, in turn must place field position at all cost. We wont out coach anybody this weekend (with all due respect). Heck in some 4th down situations, I would line up like I'm going for it and have Stump just kick it from the shot gun. Put head hunters in at receiver and have them go cover the punt. Alternate that a couple of times and that will surprise them IMO. Last but not least, keep the boys healthy in practice. and find some othe kids (lower level or wherever) to step up. AGAIN, all with no Fieldhouse. Lol -
Lets see, where to begin.....well, a win is a win, and we'll take it. Offensively, we looked better than we did a week ago. I'm seeing more consistency with moving the ball, and I like that....but we're still not where we need to be. We've got to be able to put complete drives together, and finish them before stalling out. Our O-line didn't seem to provide much protection in giving Stump time to throw the ball. It looked to me like he took off running alot, once he was flushed out of the pocket. However, on more than a few occasions, his running ability kept some drives alive. Defensively, we looked better this week, as well. With the exception of giving up the occasional long run, our defense kept us in this game tonight. Although, I dont remember seeing us blitz at all the entire game. These games are only going to get tougher from here on out. Our offense still seems to be a bit one-dimensional, but we're making progress on that and seem to be getting better. Hopefully, the rest of out preseason schedule will get us better prepared for district play, but we need to stay healthy. If we can do that, I think we'll be competitive. ;)
I am surprised!!! This was the best post I have ever read from you. For you sir +1> Should I say Welcome aboard!!

West Brook vs. Central 9/2/2011 Predictions?
Well as always, I have to disagree with a "player gettin showcased"...lol....did anyone figure that the Beaumont bowl stays in the west end....the way you mature a qb is to throw him in the fire...but u want him to get use to being in the game....can we run the ball?....heck yeah!...ask PAM....do we need to work on the passing game? yes...absolutely...it's really easy to sit back and criticize...a kid starting his 3rd or 4th game....try using a brain before assuming that a player is getting showcased...the more time our "show case player" gets whippn that ball the better he will be in November...it goes by fast, no time for regret, and no time to please critics....try and think to form a logical explanation of why the coaching staff would do this....I can relate...not because of my awesome little league coaching experience, but from my real world training of the finest fighting force in the world....the US Marine Corps... preparation, planning, strategy, defense, offense alternate planning and supplementary planning...only we can't see video one week prior... ;) If the show case kid(s) were not related to a coaching staff...we would not be having this conversation.... I was always kept an open door policy...still do...and so does Coach Stump....I don't think we need to leave a door open on this matter....meaning if you have something to say, don't beat around the bush say it....but to the right man's face...not behind a screen.... ;)
MAN>>>>Sgt. I could not have said it better. Some people are born in and "eclipse". Negative. I do wonder how many critics have "actually coached" and "have kids that play". Go sign up for Little league, They need some coaches. Sgt is right and West Brook will win Friday! -

Ozen will stay close for 1 1/2 qtrs. Then WB should blow the covers. WB by no less than 14 IMO. It may open up in the 2nd half, but it will open up. Ozen tackled pretty good last year. WB is teaching tackling to this young team. Conditioning will win the game in the second half. Percy will have a field day. WB had a physical Lufkin game.

Top Players on your team next Season ?
Popa Blu replied to ozenfreshman's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
BTW WB beat PAM today in Lufkin...7 on 7... ;D
were they wearing pads?? ;)
If they were in pads it would have been worse for the Titans!! Memorial was simply outclassed. Pads just make them slower. Memorial still plays tackle in 7 on 7. IMO takes cheap shots. After a play ta kid came way out of bounds and wiped out our leading receiver into the fence. Things got a bit touchy, but not near as touchy as it will be when they meet in pads. Furthermore, when there was a certain DT that was all world last year in the game he was holding his knee, and kneeling on the same knees for rest. No Conditioning!! WB wins Again! :D -

Popa Blu replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Pads? It makes it that much harder for those that aren't conditioned. Central IMO looked well. They don't have the confidence to beat WB IMO. I hear the chatter amongst the boys. WB will do better than what folks think a lot like the team a couple of years ago. Young. The biggest issue with WB as it was last year is staying healthy in 5A football. The conditioning and coaching will be there. I agree 7 o7 isn't much, but it does require the defense to be in position "without contact" this can prove to be beneficial once pads are on. IMO our local officials allow too much contact, at times, in 7 on 7. if it is touch play touch. If pads play pads. Again, Stump looked great. Give WB a healthy OL and watch out. -

Since Varsity he has never played the same position two years in a row. Soph: Defensive End; Jr: D Tackle (team need); Sr: MLB. Caleb showed well at UT Camp June 5th as a DE. Major Applewhite and staff worked him out some at TE while in camp. You never know! ;) -

Beaumont Ozen vs. Lumberton Game Thread/Ozen wins/Comments
Popa Blu replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
If you all don't know. Aaron Chambers will be a big time prospect and already is at Ozen. Unfortunately, the pitching staff is not deep at Ozen. He can't be used IMO as effectively if he had other (consistant) throwers in their program. IMO his pitching is capable of holding any SETX Team. Do the research and see if this is true. Congrats to Ozen and Chambers. ;D -
Congrats to the Reyes Family! Jr is a fine young man and would have done well wherever he chose to play. Smart and Tough. WB will miss their general. I guess all the Ribeyes are headed to the "Show-ME State" :D

What is the size of your home baseball field? Foul Lines? Center field? Alleys? Who has the largest park in SETX? the smallest park? Interesting to see what size parks these balls are hit out off...

Popa Blu replied to D3zii's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This is not straightforward and some people that are putting out info don't have experience at reading blueprints. According to a committee member, one that helped form the bond, many were dead set against "anything athletic" (Butch stadium, New athlectic facilities, etc) So, instead of due diligence being placed on the specific "fieldhouse needs" this campus vs that campus, the line item of 1.6mil was placed in Bond, but all knew that many were opposed to "anything" athlectic so details were "not" looked at. Now in hindsight, we have on 1.6 predicated to accomplishing fairness (balance) what can not be accomplished at the WB campus. IMO the WB Fieldhouse needs about 2.5m to accomplish program needs. The 1.6, IMO, will accomplish Central's needs because the program is smaller. Sources say that the same people that wanted "nothing athletic" now want to discuss "the fieldhouse" in hindsight after a surplus has been announced. Last week we had a meeting and before leaving we called another one at WB tonight. You wanna know how many showed up. TWO counting me! I also have the dwgs, and I have been to the current facilities and counted toilets, urinals, showers, etc. IMO WB would not be well served to have the renovation plans set forth for 1.6m to be carried out. At this time, after the Bond has been approved, after we now are concerned about athletics, we need to move forward and attempt to present the case with solid evidence. The board has the right to do with the 10m what they want, like it or not. I suggest we present facts and let them speak for themselves. In the end I believe we can win the arguement. IMO the renovation to WB field house violates some code issues. I have a comparrison of every fieldhouse sq footage and contents, anyone is welcome to have it.
