Lumberton won 57-52 in overtime.
We got lucky with the win. Very, very out coached!!
Tough hard fought game. Congrats to Lumberton.

My reply is to slick74 post is in three parts:
1. I too thought LCM's coaches seemed a step ahead and put our girls in a position to win in a game that had a ton of distractions and  extracurricular activity going on everywhere. (get back to this in a minute) The most evident was halftime adjustments.  LCM was down by 8 at the half and opened the 3rd with a 15-0 run. (or something close to that) Sometimes the youth and inexperience of this team still becomes a big factor after glimpses of great potential.

2. How games are called.  I don't think bad calls cost anybody this game and I'm not blaming a loss on the refs, but if you were in this gym last night (on either side) you left without a clue as to what was a foul and what was not.  I try my best to see the game with my eyes and not my heart, but last night was unbelievable.  (JV game was even worse)

3. I know Lumberton has had some well documented coach/parent/fan problems in the past and this is truely NOT an effort to throw fuel on that fire all over again.  I am not privileged to all of the inside knowleged of the Lumberton team, but I have seen most of these girls play for several years during the season and summer league and there are some talented girls sitting the bench with shoes that look like they just came out of the box.

I have to disagree Hillguy. Letting them shoot at will would be a mistake Jacks and Richmond can get hot at anytime and that is bad news for any team. Ozen DID NOT let them shoot threes and thats one thing that helped them blow that game out. Congrats to Ozen on the big win and its pretty awesome to see how far Vidor has come they are 20-5 this season which is impressive by any standards.
You are correct...they can get hot, but I think you make them prove they can be effective from outside the arc THEN you defend that.  3's are flashy and get lots of "oohs and ahhs", but rarely win ball games against strong opponents.  Not saying dont defend the arc, but if they want to launch from 3-5 ft further out, let em do it...very low % shot.
Exactly!    How did you get to be so smart?
Has BH ever run a box & One?  (Just sayin)

HF....why are we having this discussion?... When you lose by 36 pts after the game being close do to stalling and few missed shots early in the game...ya got hunted and eaten!!..It doesnt matter when the baskets were scored, or who scored them....Thats what Ozen calls TEAM work!..Vidor had 10 second half points..Com'on man!..this is my last post about this...Vidors game is old news.

@ Hillguy-lol... I think ozen played more then one quality team...but thats your opinion like you said. Realistically the only games that truly matters are the playoffs...and I Guarantee you the big O will be ready...See You There!!!!!!!!
"Strong and bitter words are usually an indication of a weak cause."
3. Vidor is a very good and well coached team.  I have seen them play several times, but my opinion does not seem to fall under the conventional way of thinking.  Although the Pirates have good guard play... in my opinion it is the post/forward combination that makes this team tough.  Vidor is not very deep, so the key to beating Vidor lies in letting Jacks have whatever she comes up with and trying to keep Richmond and the other big girl off the boards and defended them tough.
I think the Vidor/Central game will be very interesting!
4. Last year,(or maybe the year before) in girls basketball an Ozen player punched a Central player after the game as they were shaking hands.  That girls was led off the court in handcuffs by police.  I believe the girl throwing the punch was suspended for the remainder of the season.  Just because this was a larger scale event doesn't mean it's too big to hand out punishments where they are due.

Questions for you lawyers.....If your son was a 15 year old sophomore and he was in this brawl with two 19 year old seniors...could you file criminal assault charges?  I'm sure there is video of the event.

Hypothetical situation above, but just trying to get a feel for is there a line where the sport stops and the law steps in.

5. Britton Lindsey is truely the most electrifying back in the SE Texas.  He has had a few nagging injuries during the season, but the coaches have held back the reins for the better part of the season.  If WOS is to go deep into the playoff they will need to drop the reins and pick up the whip.  This kid can run with great vision!
Small guys will always be questioned, but this kid has the answers.  I hope someone at the next level gives Britton a chance to continue to prove himself.
Great kid.

HJ looked pretty good against LCM... LCM will be ok when they getall their players together...  This might be the most speed HJ has put on the floor in a long time....
be quick and looked in mid-season form.  HJ will be very tough this season.  Even though HJ is a powerhouse year in and year out...this team looks like they may a step ahead of those in recent years.

LCM is very young and will rely heavily on a sophomore class.  Maybe as many as three soph starting when the season kicks off.

Great pressure defense from the Hawks in this scrimmage and a great learnng experience for the young Bears.
7.   Congrats JB!
I had the privilege of coaching this young lady for several years and Jac absolutely MADE herself a great player.  No one worked harder or put in more time than Jacquelyn Brown.  Jac was nearly always the first at practice (came with the pitchers/catchers) and much of hte time wanted someone to stay after and hit her extra fly balls. JB was also blessed with speed at an early age and was always the fastest kid at any tourney.
JB was also involved in one of my most memorable CE's.  (I know some of you will remind me of many)  In a 14U pool game we had batted around through the line up back to JB's #2 spot with 1 out and runners on 2nd and 3rd.  I made eye contact with the base umpire to let him know we were jumping the runners to get out of the inning.  The only thing I DIDN'T do was remember to give Jacquelyn the "take" sign.  Runners jump and umpire calls them out just as Jac launches what would be her first HR.  Still sorry JB.
Truely a great and deserving young lady. I wish you much success.

Thanks for giving me the chance to be a part of your life and success.

What kind of gas milage does your dad's car get?  ;)
Not so great, may have to trade the F-150 in on a Prius :)....thanks, T.  Got some games against Loyola and Xavier in Nawlins, so at least we will eat good!
Yep...all of the sudden a Prius looks SO much better than that F-150!  :D  Then again, I'm sure you'd buy a good pair of running shoes and make it that way if you had too.

Sometimes kids get signed off shear talent alone and a coach has thoughts of "molding" or "polishing" that player by trying to add all the intangibles.  Shannon seems "shiney" in all aspects going in.  A terribly easy decision for Faulkner.

Hope to catch her in action a few times this season.

Much respect to the Evans family.  :)

Vidor had big leads on LCM and Central and let them score at the end of the game both times. I wasn't at the game, so they may have pulled starters and got scored on. It really doesn't matter. Margin of victory really doesn't matter, the way PNG and Vidor match up against each other and their execution does. Insulting each other leading up to the game means nothing. I am sure the coaches of both teams and the players respect each other and understand how important this game is. I think the offenses of both teams match up well against the defenses. I think Vidor will have success running on our defense and our offense will be able to throw on Vidor's defense. It will come down to turnovers and key penalties, in my opinion. Both teams are playing well, so this should be worth the price of admission. I don't like predicting scores, because of the jinx factor, ;D so I will not make a prediction. One thing is for sure, I will be pulling for Nederland this week. For PNG the easiest scenario is to win out, but having the head to head over Ozen already, them losing can only be a good thing.

The comment about the LCM mascot incident...The Indian Spirit is something we take serious around here, Unlike most schools it isnt some clown in a costume cutting up. There are countless hours that go into the tradition...I dont expect anyone outside of PN-G to understand that .. As far as your school song being cut short I'm sure that wasnt intentional.
That is exactly why this incident was so great...even though the Indian Spirit doesn't "cut up"...he is just another mascot in a costume.
The outrage was huge from Indian Nation.  I think PNG charged the LCM school district somewhere in the neighborhood of $1500 to clean the head dress.  I'd hate for taxes to be raised any higher in LCMISD, but I'd personally chip in some money to see it again Friday night!!  ;D ;D

I guess I should be the first person (and most likely only) to give. LCM a winning score. It only seems appropriate.

LCM 27
PNG 21

LPO175...in the caption under your login name are the scripted "L P" letters with the embossed strong words of "Intergity", "Honor", and "Pride"...I think I know the reason the word "Wisdom" was not listed with them.  ;)

I hope you're right though...Go Bears!

13. I think you're making WAY too big a deal out of this.

It was a frustrating game for the entire LCM community and probably doubly so for the coaches and players.  I think its a great thing that we now have a coaching staff that is passionate enough about winning to demand it from the players, themselves personally, AND each other.

14. Congrats to the Panthers.
I am an LCM supporter and came away from last weeks Ozen game impressed by the Panthers.  The Bears played well and had their chances to win, but Ozen came up with big play after big play whenever challenged.
I thought if LCM could contain Green from running we would be in good shape...the Bears did that, but Green threw the ball very well.  Ozen receivers made some great catches especially the Nelson kid.
My biggest surprise was how tough the Ozen defense played.  The Ozen "D" in the red zone was the real difference maker.

Congrats again to Ozen.  Bears have to rebound against Central.

Just curious how many people would actually like to see this game played in front of a 20,000+ standing room only crowd. This game is in the top 5 rivalry games in the state and with a little PR work could be the biggest, and if it was moved to saturday would attract fans from all over southeast Texas and possably be shown live across the state.
I'm sure I'll take some heat for this reply, but I'll let it fly anyway.

If you wear purple & white or black & gold this game means everything, but if you don't...it's just another southeast Texas game.
If it was played on Saturday I would probably go, but I'd go if it was some other southeast Texas teams too just to see good high school football.
It is a great rivalry for your schools, but has very little meaning except for the district standings outside of your communities.

Ozen 35

Lcm 7
Hahaha funny, 7 points? Sezer is bound to have more that 100 yards this game, and 2+ tds. Y'all couldn't stop the kid as a sophomore
Come on Man...don't bite!
Continue to fly under the radar as long as it lasts.

17. Stats are like conducting an interegation...sometimes you can torture them enough to make them say anythng you want.

LCM came out very sharp and looked good, but the Lumberton style of football played out exactly how it's set up.  Ball control.  The one stat I didn't see was time of posession.  Lumberton kept the ball for a HUGE chunk of the game especially in the second half.  The LCM offensive looked a little out of sync in the second half after sitting for so long...the Raiders did a good job of disrupting that rhythm.  Lumberton played tough all night and never let up.  Lumberton has to be the best 0-4 team in the state.
LCM continues to grow and this win will help them prepare when they see this same type offense in a few weeks.

Stupidity marked by egregious ignorance.

Last week at the Dayton vs Angleton game the Wildcats kick an onsides sky-kick that was caught in the air by one of their players. Genious, up in the stands, is hollering at the top of his lungs, "No one touched it! No one touched it!" It wasn't a punt - it was an embarrassment. If you never played the game and don't truly know the game, then don't jump up and shout out your ignorance when something happens you only think you know about.
