HF was ahead at half playing zone.  Went man in 3rd qtr and allowed Lumberton to run their offense.  Too many fouls, too few made shots, never went back to zone even with key players in foul trouble.
Pre-district game.  Sure...everybody wants to win every game, but unless you're planning on going straight zone all year you better be working on man-to-man at some point.

Vidor will take district this year with allison and amber jacks leading the way.
Not going to happen...Vidor takes 3rd or 4th behind Ozen and Central for sure.
No way.
Way!,ha...Ozen 30 something and 1 team returning seriously ticked off over playoff loss and Central returning strong core including one of the best guards in the state.  Vidor has the spunk but not the horsepower to overcome those two.  Liv will be a force too to reckon with.
Hillguy is right on the money!  (again)  Vidor will have a good team, but you either don't know girls basketball or you're kidding yourself when you stack them up man for man against the front runners in 20-4a.

You should see the picture Gary Stelly from KOGT posted on fb because it clearly shows the Bear player had the ball all wrapped up in his arms. Just glad the Bears won! ;D
I saw the picture as well. Clearly should have been LCM ball. But, a wins a win.
I have the picture and it leaves absolutely no doubt, but I was unsure if I should post it because it has KOGT's call letters on the photo.  I thought if they wanted it out there they would do it.
I guess it would be a MUCH bigger deal if Ozen had scored.

  4. Talented and Classy fits the discription of Alex Sezer very well.  What some either fail to highlight, recognize, or may even be unaware of is that this young man excels in the classroom as well.  Alex is ranked #2 in his graduating class and is set to graduate ahead of his classmates in January so he can begin his work at Texas A&M.
This kid has obviously worked hard to overcome many "challenges"...I wish him the best of luck on this one Friday night!

  5. As an LCM fan I've followed and seen Trent Manuel, great athlete and exceptional place kicker for the Bears.  Hope he has a great season.

I also got a chance to see the Carranco in the playoffs against PNG, a super impressive kicker as well.  My wish is that Manuel gets a chance to match Carranco's 60 pat's this season!  ;)

  6. Congratulatons to the girls of 20-4A for a great year in District, the Area, and Region...a strong showing for some great athletes.  Some great competition through the whole district.  (I think that would have been a more proper way to start this thread.)

Some of you make pretty good arguements, but I don't really think it matters in the end.  The picks are all a matter of opinion and for sure subject to argument.  There are a lot of things I don't agree with, but for the most part I don't think recognizing more than a starting 5 is such a bad thing.  If you REALLY follow girls basketball you know who the top tier players are.

(Without going back and looking it up)  Who was the 20-4A MVP, Offensive & Defensive players of the year, and Newcomer of the year from 2 years ago?

Coach Jacks didn't get a tech his assistant did for getting up off the bench and clapping, only one coach is allowed up. It was a dumb call though. The game shouldn't necessarily be judged by the final score it was within single digits most of the game an Vidor got ahead a few times, basically the problem is depth on the bench, Dayton simply had more depth and the Vidor girls got tired there in the fourth.
Pretty much nailed it right here. But dayton fought hard and deserved the win. Congrats. Vidor should definitely make some noise next year since they only lose one starter and have some good freshman coming up. We just need that big girl inside and we'll be set.
Hey Slam.... I'm not one to stir things up. Especially at the end of the season. Maybe we should let Ol VP in on a little secret. L-Town and LCM are returning some young talent next year too  ;D
Very true LR2014, but the real proof is going to be who works harder in the summer.  As you know, you don't necessarily get better just because you're a year older.  Work ethics will tell the story. I'm sure I'll see you in a gym this summer somewhere!!  Good luck to your daughters!

THATS RIGHT, Dayton Won!!!! Go ahead and HATE on them and make Excuses,
Obviously they Where the better team =D
Watch out everyone, Because they are on the run,
And don't plan on stopping anytime soon =D
    Especially #33,
She is Unstoppable and has one thing on her mind,
    and that WINNING =D

    Dear #33's mom,
Thanks for your lovely post.  Good luck to your daughter (#33) in the next round.  8) ;D

Vidor is 27-8. I don't understand why people dog on people with an outside game it's part of it that's why there's a 3 point line. I expect it to be a good game as long as both teams show up. If you don't have much option for an inside game then you have to do what you have to do. Let's also just think that each coach has their way to do things and it's no one else's place to correct them, you can't say much against a coach who has turned a program around like coach Jacks has.
Not dogging on an outside game at all.  It just seems like there is the HS arc, College arc, NBA arc and THEN the Vidor arc lol.    Good luck...should be an interesting one!
Vidor's isn't an arc...it's the half court line.  ;D
  10.
I also think Vidor is overmatched but would just like to say that Vidor has come a long way. This was a program that was dreadfull but now they are in the playoffs and have won more games in two years than the did the previous 5. That being said very happy for the Vidor program.
Exactly!  A huge turn around for Vidor's program.  22-6 this season so far...and this is on the heels of a win-less season only a few years ago.  Good luck to Vidor.

I love being the underdog  8)
Then you should REALLY love this game.

There is a defensive answer to what Vidor does and I'm sure Dayton has the athletes to exploit that.  Anything can happen and I wish Vidor good luck, but they may be overmatched here.  I plan on being there to watch this one.

LOL...I was going to be much more brief in my response Slam....like "football season is over, man".
Well, I was really just trying to let the guy know.  I've seen vp32 post all through the football season and support Vidor with some good comments.  The Vidor girls team is solid this year and they have fans following that maybe haven't had anything to do with girls basketball in a long time.

    61-28 BH wins
Hillguy,
That's a pretty wide margin of victory.
I was just wondering...did BH full court man press the entire forth quarter even with a 40 point margin?  Did BH continue to shoot 3's late in the 4th and even rush downcourt to try to launch one more 3 before the final buzzer?  Did BH draw 2 technicals... one on a player and another on the bench when a coach made crude comments to the ref about the calls even though your team didn't draw their first foul of the game until 4:22 left before the half? (almost a whole half with no fouls? Really?)  Did most of your starters continue to play with that 40 point margin with coaches screaming to "push the ball"?

Oh...my mistake...that wasn't BH...come to think of it I've never seen BH act class-less...that must have been another game I saw.  ;)
Well, now that I have gathered myself from ROFLMAO...the answer to your questions are pretty much "NO" (since we never press at all) with exeception of shooting 3's (what's the difference between shooting from 19' 9" and 19' 10" anyway?)...well maybe 30 footers might be rubbin it in I guess  ;)
Thanks for clearing that up for me.  I didn't think that was ya'll.  ;D
I know it will be down the line some, but hope to see you guys plays.  Good luck the rest of the season!

4 words is all i'm gonna say

    Allison Jacks
    Casey Jones

    Nuff said.

    8)

I got one more word for you:    Dayton
    ;) :)
I got one more word for you. Ozen.  8)
I sure hope so!  You will see Dayton WAY before we see the O  ;D
    Congrats on the win
That's not guaranteed. If BH Dayton Crosby and GCM all go to the playoffs then Dayton will go d2 and if us central ozen and livingston make it we will go d1. Therefore we will not meet in the playoffs.  8)
You spent too much time analyzing and figuring out the high school football playoffs....no D1 & D2.  Regional -district matchups -  1 plays 4, 2 plays 3.

Hey Slam, do you still have a daughter playing? It was an exciting game. It was also a little sloppy. I have seen the Lumberton girls play better but I will gladly take the win. The Refs..... well, it was bad both ways. In my opinion, both coaches had their hands full in this game. They were both working the refs and dealing with foul trouble. We had one of our guards go down with an injury and then came back. I hope she is ok! I think the LCM coach gave away her teams chance to win in OT when she got the tech. LCM was only down by 2 when that happened. I think she is a good coach from what I've seen but that was costly because we made those shots. Good luck tonight Lady Raiders!
Yep, still have one playing. My youngest is a junior.
The game was pretty exciting and would have runs of great play for a while and then each team would get sloppy for a while.  I think the refs let things get out of hand and both coaches were justified in their questioning.  The tech hurt, but I find it hard to fault the passion.  That blow-up was building the whole game.  I guess I would have been upset with the tech if I hadn't thought it was justified.  Just one of those things.

To Lumberton's credit...I thought one of the key elements was in the 4th quarter and OT, a couple of the senior raider players did a good job of talking to and calming down their teammates and playing under control when there was caos all around.

The bold/red comments are the ones I have issue with. Why would you make your 3rd comment at all if you are "not privileged to all of the inside knowleged of the Lumberton team" ???
This is a discussion board and you're entitled to whatever opinion you want to have. I just haven't read or seen anything this year that justifies these comments.

Good luck Lady Raiders and stay focused on the goal at hand!!

I was not at game but I don't understand how you come on here and run down Coach Goad. This is her FIRST year as a varsity basketball coach. She took over a program in turmoil, has had to deal with some more this year, and has her team in position to make the playoffs.

As for last night's game. I will always give the kids credit because they play the game. Lumberton blew a 8 point lead, apparently got down by 7 ine the 2nd half and came back to win?  All dispite the refs being terrible...
That doesn't sound like bad coaching to me.

I'm not saying she's perfect, but give her a chance and get her out of the microscope.
    Congrats girls and Coach Goad!!!

    Lumberton won 57-52 in overtime.
We got lucky with the win. Very, very out coached!!
Tough hard fought game. Congrats to Lumberton.

My reply is to slick74 post is in three parts:
    1. I too thought LCM's coaches seemed a step ahead and put our girls in a position to win in a game that had a ton of distractions and  extracurricular activity going on everywhere. (get back to this in a minute) The most evident was halftime adjustments.  LCM was down by 8 at the half and opened the 3rd with a 15-0 run. (or something close to that) Sometimes the youth and inexperience of this team still becomes a big factor after glimpses of great potential.

    2. How games are called.  I don't think bad calls cost anybody this game and I'm not blaming a loss on the refs, but if you were in this gym last night (on either side) you left without a clue as to what was a foul and what was not.  I try my best to see the game with my eyes and not my heart, but last night was unbelievable.  (JV game was even worse)

    3. I know Lumberton has had some well documented coach/parent/fan problems in the past and this is truely NOT an effort to throw fuel on that fire all over again.  I am not privileged to all of the inside knowleged of the Lumberton team, but I have seen most of these girls play for several years during the season and summer league and there are some talented girls sitting the bench with shoes that look like they just came out of the box.

My comments were strictly to give our coaching staff an "atta boy" for what I thought was a good job in spite of the fact that we lost the game...and I WAS there to see it.

I thought I justified my comments by first admitting that I don't know every detail of the Lumberton situation, and then added my opinion with the reasoning behind my comments....I have seen those girls play many times.  I made no harse comment toward any coaches and couldn't care less who coaches at Lumberton and what goes on there.  The "very very outcoached" comment came from one of your own and your outrageous reaction lets all know that maybe things haven't changed in Lumberton after all.
    Sorry I struck a nerve.

Good luck the rest of the year to the girls of Lumberton.

(77, you should have had some girls so you could part of the drama world!!)  ;D
