Splendora won 38-21. SA All-State QB Jamikel Roberts did not play. 17-14 at half but depth and turnovers bit SA in the butt.
-
You beat us by one score in both segments of the scrimmage. So either neither side played any defense or it may have just actually been a competitive game. Lol
San Augustine also didn't resort to running a reverse just to try to get some offense going.
On the topic though again if woodville doesn't turn the ball over they should be able to consistently move the ball. Defensively is another story, you've got to find a way to make a stop on 4 straight plays because if it's 4 and 3-4 or less they are going for it almost every time. -
Agree, but you CANNNOT make mistakes against Joaquin because your possessions are very limited. They are going to snap the ball deep in the playclock every time, and the clock is almost always running because they rarely throw it. If you see the ball more than twice a quarter you are fortunate. If Joaquin gets the ball on their own 30 they may run 15 plays and still not have scored yet, and they've ran 9 minutes off the clock. They are the true definition of "three yards and a cloud of dust".

I expect another defensive battle in this one. Shepherd has shown glimpses of being good on offense but have to be more consistent. Defensively they get after and are really good up front.
-
Haven't seen WS but know they should be better at just about all the skill positions. I think that makes up for any deficiencies in the trenches they are going through. While I doubt WS scores 5 defensive tds (or however many it was last year) I expect them to still score a good amount.
I'll take WS in the 40s and Hemphill around 14ish -
For the record, San Augustine was 7 spots behind Garrison, not 5. And as a result they dropped 2, not 3 spots. In fact, the Wolves were the only team in EITHER poll that was rated 10 through 15 in our preseason poll which lost and remained in the Top 15. We not know all on high school football in the smaller conferences, but we may know more than you express.
As to Hemphill vis a vis H-D, only 1 person deemed HD worth a vote of 15th rank. Everybody has their own standards for ranking these teams.
But as tigerheart indicated, this is an opinion poll that is put for the sake of discussion, and in that respect it seems thus far we have succeeded.
I can understand Anahuac moving into the poll and in front, as they beat a 4A school, but evadale and Iola jumping them? I disagree. I know this discussion has happened before but I think of polls as #1 would be favored over everyone below them, #2 favored against all but #1, etc etc down the line. And I just don't think Evadale or Iola would beat San Augustine. -
How did hull Daisetta get 1 vote and Hemphill none and Hemphill beat them? These polls are bogus
Possibly the same way a team loses to a team ranked 5 spots higher by 4 pts on the road and drops 3 spots afterwards.
I'm guessing most of the small school voters simply score watch and don't have a ton of knowledge of all the schools they are voting for. Just take it for what it is, someone's opinion and a talking point and move on. -
Woodville better be ready for the double wing because Joaquin is very good at running it. Joaquin had two pretty good RBs as well. Don't think this will be a cakewalk for woodville by any means. They are going to have to play 4 good quarters of football.

Fun fact...I don't believe tatum's starting QB played this game. I reckon eagleborn can confirm or deny but JD Taylor is normally the starting QB for Tatum.

Good to see you too, wolfie.......
Heard y'all dropped a tough one last night......Had plenty of opportunities to jump up by 2-3 tds and just didn't make plays and had penalties way too often. But thats to be expected when you are playing several guys getting their first hs/and or friday night reps. Gonna be just fine by the time district rolls around and possibly sooner.
-
district 22-3a played saturday-thursday-tuesday-saturday-friday to get the district season in...or something close to that
-
Woodville should roll
-
Sounds like there wasn't much defense played by either team in the live half lol
Woodville didn't play any all night lol
San Augustine would make a good play or two on defense and then the QB would bust a big one on 3rd and long. Kid is a player. -
In the controlled portion SA dominate on D and then the QB broke a big run on the last play to inside the 10. SA marched down the field and scored in about 5 plays and was inside the 15 again after the 10th play.
In the live quarter If you took the QB off the field woodville gets not very good in a hurry. He made every big play and gain and I'm pretty sure touchdown. I think when people are actually game planning then woodville could be in trouble in that you can key in on him. I don't recall woodville having much success besides him. At 1 point woodville ran a trick play, which you generally don't see in a scrimmage which smells of desperation.
Again SA pretty much did whatever they wanted on O. Woodville has a good d-line but struggled to stop the pass in the secondary and got gashed in the run game. -
San Augustine 1-0 in controlled part...both teams stopped after 10th play inside the red zone.
In the live half SA won 35-28. Woodville QB is salty as a runner. Woodville had no answer on defense for SA. -
Here we go again with the almighty SA Woverines lol. I can PROMISE you that HD has a more talented backfield with more speed than SA this year. Yes I know ya'll have JMike, but we've got an all-state QB too who rushed for 1800 yards plus two RB's that both run sub 11sec 100m.
SA, WS, Groveton, Alto etc consistently have more speed in the backfield than HD. That's not the case this year. Now speed doesn't equal wins, but I promise you we won't be boring.
And I'm sure it won't be nearly as exciting as Alto dropping 84 points on San Augustine last year, but we'll still have fun I'm sure. (and yes, I'm talking about football not BB)
I know you were attacking SAWolverine but it's Wolves not Wolverines.
I can appreciate the fact that y'all have a good backfield...But SA has 4 guys that can go in the backfield. A freshman touched the ball 4 times with the #1 offense and scored 4 times last week. Another RB went 70 untouched on a sweep. Yet another went for 1100 yards last year. -

Reshod Williams is going to be really good! Jamikel Roberts is the early favorite to be the best in our district but unfortunately for him SA did graduate thier two big "go up and get it" recievers. WS returns all WR's.... Williams is the better scrambler of the two..... Don't know who Roberts is going to get to catch his passes. Best of luck to JMike, great kid and great athlete, but the rest of the district had better watch out for Williams!
If all San Augustine did was throw jump balls to the two big receivers I might agree with you that their loss would hurt big time...but I don't recall them doing that too much. One of the big guys played inside WR and the other was outside. Both very good, but definitely didn't rely on the jump ball/ deep ball. The only game they really threw the ball deep consistently was Shelbyille and that's because shelbyville manned up all night and SA was getting past them untouched at the LOS. Don't sleep on what SA could trot out at WR next year.
And I'm not sold on Williams being the better scrambler. The two are pretty similar athletically with Jmike being the bigger of the 2 I believe. At several camps this summer Jmike has consistently ran in the 4.5-4.6 range including being named QB MVP of the ETSN combine and recently at the Blue-Grey Super Combine (invite only) for the Blue-Grey All American Game. He also ran on both the sprint and 800 relays in Austin this past spring. There is obviously more to scrambling/being a running threat but 1000+ rushing yards from the QB spot speaks for itself.
And I know you weren't downing Jmike in anyway, and I have no intentions of downing Reshod either. Both are great kids, with great potential and skills. I just like to speak up for Jmike just as you speak up for Reshod.
Personally I wish the WS-SA game was week 11 instead of week 7 so that we could see these 2 go at it for a possible district championship. -
