1. I remember Bevil throwing a lot of interceptions during the scrimmages and I thought Bevil was just rusty from not playing for a year. But now that the season is almost over it's probably safe to assume that this problem will not fix itself.  I doubt we'll see Bevil back as starting quarterback next year unless he makes some big changes over the offseason.
 2.
It should be interesting to see who Roc goes with in the starting line up. We have a lot of different pieces. I wonder if Roc will stick with that 3 guard lineup that he likes so much.
In a recent interview Roc said he'll mainly go with a 3 guard lineup, maybe even 4 guards.
 3. Rumor is Montana will not join and they are probably the one school that would make sense joining the WAC.
 4.
It always been said that stats are for losers and if I am not mistaken GA St win gave them a winning season.
So you're saying since Lamar doesn't have a winning season the coaching staff is over their heads?  Woodard could have played an easier schedule like Georgia State did and they'd probably having a winning record too and there wouldn't be threads like this.
 5. I think it'll happen in the last game against Oklahoma Panhandle State.  They by far will be the weakest team that Lamar faces this year.  Langston beat them 30-14.
 6. We'll find out over the next couple of years how the WAC evolves.  I bet more teams like Utah State and Hawaii leave.  I think La Tech is still trying to find a new home too.  I'm glad Lamar is taking a more cautious approach about joining a FBS conference.
 7.
We'll see what they can do Friday.  Last year, I was very disappointed in our performances against these low-end teams and it foretold a lot of our struggles.  You can't assume a great team if you beat Lyon by 50, but if you're only beating them by 10, it's a bad sign.
I couldn't agree with you more.  If Lamar hasn't blown the game wide open by halftime then we'll probably be in for another long season, no matter who's injured for Lamar.
 8. According to the Beaumont Enterprise, Prewitt is the starting quarterback now.  Woodard is also demoting the team captains and will select new ones each week: [Hidden Content]
 9. Woodard talks about South Dakota on the LU website and he says they are big and physical and like to run the ball.  There's a good chance they'll be running through Lamar's defense all day.  Massey Ratings has SD by 17 and they've been pretty accurate so far. [Hidden Content]
 10. The pomeroy ratings are up for the new basketball season.  Pomeroy is projecting Lamar with a 253 rating, with a 15-15 overall W/L record and 7-9 record in conference.  We'll see if Roc can prove this prediction wrong. [Hidden Content]
 11. I went online to see about how many tickets they had left and I counted around 1500.  I wonder how many season ticket no show there will be.
 12.

To think that the coaches are in over their heads is kind of crazy. A winning program doesn't come over night, everyone on here knows that and I think is just frustrated because they want to win games. Lamar surprised me a bit this season with their early play and the impressive come from behind win at Southeastern, but the physical nature of football is going to take a toll on teams. Established teams have the "backbone" in place that helps sustain the team when injuries hit. A first year program is going to find it much tougher sledding when injuries happen because there is nothing to fall back on as far as depth in recruiting. Lamar signed a small class in Woodard's first year and then a full class last year. I think this staff has found talent and signed some talent, but not every player you identify is going to sign with you and not every player is going to continue to develop into a better player once they get on campus. Give this staff more than one season on the field before you give up and think they are in over their heads.
Ga st showed different looks, mixed up the pl?ays, and kept LU off balance. LU did none of those things. Did it take Ga st 2-3 years?  You do know Ga st is a first year program too?
Georgia State could have easily lost to Lamar and they also lost to a NAIA team.  The stats were pretty even and looking at Georgia State's RPI they are not much better than Lamar, and that's with a so called "name" coach.  We'll see what players Woodard signs for the next year and see how well they do next year before we judge if Woodard is up to the task.
 13.

Takes 2-3 years for a new coach to come into a program and make a difference.  After that, all bets are off. I think Lamar could have done better than hire a JC Coach.  There are quality assistants at major colleges all over that would salivate at the opportunity to be a head coach at the FCS level.
I was shocked when I found out that Woodard had only 1 year of collegiate head coaching experience before getting the nod at future DI Lamar. I think the number one thing people will tell you is that coaching professionals (Scottish Claymores) and college (Navarro then Lamar) are totally different, see Nick Saban. Just curious, who else was in the running back in 2008 when Woodard got the job?
From an old Bob West article:
The top three candidates, according to my sources, are Navarro JC head coach Ray Woodard, West Brook head coach Craig Stump and former North Texas offensive coordinator Ramone Flanagan. Woodard, who was a teammate of Todd Dodge at the University of Texas, seems to have the inside track to getting the job.
I don't think Lamar had the money to spend on hiring a quality D1 assistant coach.  Woodard was hired at $130K, which isn't bad for the SLC, but that's less than most good D1 assistants at the bigger schools.  Back in the 1980s Lamar had the habit of skipping over up and coming assistant coaches and making bad hires.  I hope history doesn't start repeating itself.
 14. And finally: #35 Texas - Rick Barnes is trying to put the wheels back on after collapse. Longhorns have plenty of talent, but can chemistry improve? I'll be at that game when Lamar pulls the upset.  ;D
 15.

This is South Alabama's 2nd season, not their first like Lamar and Georgia State.  Lamar has played a harder scheduled than both South Alabama and Georgia State, and Lamar has also played more road games than those two.   Lamar will end up with 4 or 5 wins this season despite losing their top 2 quarterbacks and other players to injuries.
i guess you missed my post where i clearly stated that So. Ala. was a 2nd yr program.
Sure did, my mistake.  But I don't think the coaching staff is over their heads or they would be losing to the non D1 teams and getting embarrassed every game.  The SFA and SHSU games were the only ones that Lamar clearly were out matched.
 16. South Dakota is only 1-5 on the road, but that one win was against Minnesota of the Big 10 early in the season.  (Minnesota has only won 1 game this season, their first game.)  South Dakota should win by a few touchdowns, but they come to Beaumont after losing 4 of 5 games.  I say Lamar pulls the upset and wins by a field goal.
 18. After scoring only 19 points total the last 5 games it was nice seeing the offense scoring again.  Even though Georgia State has a better record than Lamar, they've played an easier schedule and they are about even with Lamar.  Prewitt is the 3rd string quarterback, and a walk-on freshman to boot, so scoring 17 points and almost winning on the road is a step in the right direction.
 19. The game's not over yet.  Lamar is driving with less than a minute left.
 20. 17-13 Lamar with about 9 minutes to go in the 4th.  It's nice to see Lamar turning the tables and making some big plays!
 21. Like the other games, if Lamar can somehow find some offense then they'll have a chance to win.  I predict Lamar will have the lead at half time, but Georgia State will make a comeback and win by a couple of touchdowns.
 22. According to the In The Cards blog:
Lamar University coaches will wait until Saturday to decide on a starting quarterback, coach Ray Woodard said Thursday. Season-long starter Andre Bevil returned to practice Thursday after he missed two practices because of a sprained wrist and bruised hand suffered Saturday at North Dakota. Backup Doug Prewitt has run plays with the first-team offense all week and conducted the team’s 2-minute offense at the end of practice Thursday.

In other injury news, defensive ends Jacody Coleman (foot) and Darby Jackson (concussion) will travel with the team to Atlanta and are expected to play. Neither practiced Thursday. Coleman’s return to the field is stalled by a mild staph infection, Woodard said.
Link: [Hidden Content]
 23. These rankings are very similar to last year's season ending RPIs.
