Well, Livinston runs the exact same offense and they make it work. Central ran a wishbone offense in 2008 and we marched 4 rounds deep in the playoffs with that. I think the running offense do work. I think the best time to pass the ball is when the offense is lined up in a run formation. You catch the defense off guard and you have teams with probably 1 or 2 true defensive backs on the field. I think Vidor needs to keep doing what they are doing. They just need to complete the passes when they are thrown. The percentage should be high.
I agree but it all starts with the O-line controlling the line of scrimmage. Liberty Hill (25-3A) has successfully used this offense in recent years and actually won 2 state titles, Caldwell has also ran the slot-t avereging about 41 points a game. I'm not downing the slot-t at all, I just want to see the Pirates soften up defenses with the threat of a decent passing game because it will make their running game that much stronger.

20-4A Port Neches-Groves Livingston Nederland Beaumont Central Beaumont Ozen Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lumberton Vidor Hmmm.........that's debatable! ;)
-
The key to Vidor's slot-T offense is controlling the line of scrimmage. The problem I see us having is what do you do when someone stops this offense and shuts it down. IMO you still have to add some balance with the pass or spreading the field and running different plays. In order to do this effectively you need to work on it all the time in game situations instead of just when you HAVE to. Most of our pass plays are based out of our running plays with the QB throwing on the run, so there is not much work done on pass protection, passing from the pocket, or receivers trying to get open. I just think we need to get better at plan B when someone successfully stops our running game....... IMO the spread is not the answer, the slot- T is not the answer, the I is not the answer. The answer is run what you believe in and adjust it to your talents.

West Brook finds out about 'Ozone' (seems that everyone misspells Ozen, so I'll do it too) Awareness the hard way. Left with several Bruins gasping for air. I guess they didn't realize that Bears hunt anything in the water. That includes 'Goose'. Dinnertime in North Orange! Who thought that Lions hibernate? They remain dormant for another week. PETA called to the scene and look for people responsible trampleing helpless bulldogs in Jasper, Tx. The spirit of Reggie Garrett lives on as the Mustang players score several Touchdowns and point to the sky. The Indians refuse to call their opponents by their first name, Gregory, but rather call them Red Headed... Last name 'Stepchild'.
PNGFan who's going to replace the big nasties you guys lost on the O-line, like Lunceford, Langlois and Parks. Those boys took up a lot of space and could move some people out of the way, hard to replace guys that are 6'3" 260, 6'2" 310, 6'1" 240.

I haven't seen many kids on any of those teams ever have break away speed, much less world class speed. Coach Johnston has some big shoes to fill, but I'm sure he's up to the job. Good luck to the Newton Eagles. And there is one Eagle soaring higher than the rest that will be watching every snap.
Probably because of the coaching change. That's a pretty big deal. Everybody dogged their rankings last year cuz they had West Brook at 48, and everybody else had them around 10. When all was said and done, I think FNF's rankings were alot more accurate. I've heard problems about people who ordered both DCTF & FNF early, and got them late. Seems like the best bet is getting them from a store. A couple of things I like about FNF more than DCTF were... it's bigger, rankings go to top 50 (not top 25), bigger print and more pictures. People also forget this is FNF's 2nd year to put out a magazine, while DCTF has been out for more than half a century. IMO, they do a phenomenal job. I loved last years, but I'm having trouble finding one again this year. Hopefully they will be easier to find after they gain popularity over the next couple years. I'll trade some ice cream for a copy, cuz they apparently had trouble finding Brenham! :D
BrenhamFan, if you have access to a Barnes and Nobles you might want to check them out, I know Beaumont has them on the rack at B&N.
Pine Island, A "produce or your gone" mentality does not always work in high school football. As always, it depends on the individual. If most districts went by your line of thought, Coach Neumann at Nederland would have already been dismissed. Sure, he has a lot of great seasons. There have been a couple that were not as good as most fans would have wanted. Still, he is a fine person, a great example for the kids, and he has been given the time to build a program. At Kountze, there is no program. No coach has been given the time to develop one. You may have a coach that will use Kountze as a stepping stone. That's OK. In most cases, he can not leave until he has been winning. If someone can come in and do that and turn the keys over to a competent coach who can keep a good thing going, that is great. Now, you have a program. It takes the right person, a school administration who will support the coach, some financial resources, and plenty of patience to build a program.
Well said. :)
