1. it's Wichita Falls Rider Vs Midway, not Killeen
2.
Gotta remember they let JM run up the score in alot of rout games to pad stats column. One of my hobbies is to verify extreme statements.  Here's what I found.  I got this data from the San Antonio Express-news.  If you take out the 4 close games, Madison,Steele and LT(2), the Tivy scores by quarter were: 1Q    2Q    3Q    4Q 155  165  120    54 That's not a a team trying to run up the score or pad stats.
3. I got my copy of The Old Coach's Friday Night Football Magazine at Wal-Mart.  It's a great magazine. Some of the SETEX state rankings are 5A 5. North Shore 4A 7. Brenham 10. LaMarque 15. Dayton 22. PN-G 33. Livingston 3A 7. Coldspring 8. WO-S 49. Jasper 2A DI 11. Anahuac 15. Newton 22. Woodville 2A DII 17. Corrigan-Camden 21. New Waverly 1A DI 14. West Sabine 1A DII 19. Evadale
4.
Good luck WO-S. I don't think it would be going out on a limb to say they should win that pool.
Not so fast there my friend...  I've seen Wimberley play 7 on 7, and they are very good.  I've seen them go 7-0. Five of these games were against teams that qualified for state.  I've also seen Marion, and they are good.   My pool A seeding would be: 1. Wimberley 2. WO-S 3. Marion 4. Comanche The WO-S-Wimberley game will be a great way to start the day on Thursday.
5. I'm west of the Frio, but here it is. Dayton BH Crosby GCM GP King Lee North Forest
6. Johnny Manzeil was absolutely the best HS QB I have ever seen in 50 years of watching HS football.  I have not seen all of the great ones, for instance, I never saw VY.  But I have seen a lot of the current crop of pro QBs from Texas, including Stafford. Manzeil was absolutely the best HS QB.  He beat teams with his arm, his legs, or both.  He put up over 500 yards offense against 5A DII champs Cibolo Steele.  The knock against him was that he is not big enough.  The Aggies got the steal of the recruiting wars with him.
7.

Bridge City 21 West Orange 20, I was a youngster but to give you a hint of the year, Steve Worster was BC's running back.
Dang Admin....... you must be old!!!!!!  ;D But wasn't the score 20-20 with BC advancing on penetrations? Correct me if I am wrong.  How many of these young whippersnappers know about penetrations to break ties??   ;)
That was in 1965.  The Score was 20-20 and BC advanced on penetrations. Best games I ever saw 1. Denton Ryan vs Ennis state semifinals 2002.  Ryan was down 14-3, facing 4th and 21 at their own 9 and came back to win 18-14.  On the last play of the game Graham Harrell threw an interception in the Ryan end zone.  Ryan went on to defeat Brenham in the championship game. 2. Denton Ryan vs LaMarque  2003 state Championship game. 42- 35 LaMarque 3OT.  Fantastic back and forth game. 3. Ryan vs Corsicana 2000 regional championship.  Coach Florence's dad had pass away that week.  The funeral was the day before the game and the team attended.  The team dedicated the game to coach Florence.  They came back from a 17 point halftime deficit to win on a QB sneak on the last play of the game. 4.  Ryan vs Smithson Valley - 2001 State championship game.  Ryan beat SV 42-35 in overtime. I've seen lots of other great games, but these hold a special meaning because my son and his friends were involved.  Those are the ones that mean the most.
8. The Astrodome roof covered 9.5 acres in its day.  So Jasper is going to have a covered practice field cover 6 times more area than the Astrodome?  I'll bet that never gets past the discussion stage without being downsized a bit...   Or to look at it another way, the in-bounds area football playing field covers about 1 acre.  Jasper might cover 60 acres with pine trees.
9. SA Madison Vs Cibilo Steele.  Aaron Green Vs Malcolm Brown
10. I heard The Abilene- Miramar game fell through.  Abilene is looking for another game.
11. Congratulations Coach Miller.  A great man and a great coach.  His baseball teams were regional champoins several times during his tenure as base ball coach.  Regional was as far as the 2A baseball playoffs went in those days.  His track teams won several district championships.  I had the pleasure of having him as a coach, and Carolyn Miller as a teacher at Little Cypress high school.  What a great couple. One of the most memorable days of my life occurred in August 1965 at two a days.  Coach Miller started having shoulder pains and was continuing to coach practice.  Other coaches, Bill Hoffman and Preston Prince, insisted he go to the hospital.  I was detailed to drive him ther in his pick-up truck.  It was decided I could get him to the hospital sooner than an ambulance could come to the school and get him to the hospital.  We left in a  hurry, and broke the speed limit all the way. Coach Miller got into the truck rubbing his shoulder and saying he did not feel well.  Coach Miller go worse as we drove to the hospital.  on the way to the hospital, we drove past his doctor's office,  He sai that the felt really bad and did not think he could make it to the hospital.  He said stop at my doctor's office.  He scrambled out of the truck and went into the office.  He came back out with a nurse before I could get the truck parked and follow him inside. The nurse said the doctor was at the hospital and she would call the hospital and tell them I was coming with the coach.  I drove like mad to the hospital and took every short cut I knew.  Coach Miller looked at me and said I am glad you know the short cuts, I am not sure I can make it much longer.  We made to the emergency room entrance, and a nurse helped him into the building.  they told me I did not need to be there, and I went back to the school dazed not knowing if he would make it. This was quite an experience for a seventeen year old. Coach Miller was diagnosed with a heart attack,  This was in the days before stents and bypass surgery.  His recovery was in doubt for several seemingly endless days.  He did recover, but he never coached football again.  He did get clearance to watch several of our games from a car parked behind the end one.  Coach Hoffman took over the Bears for the football season, and coach Prince took over the baseball team.  Coach Miller did coach the Bears to another district track championship that year.  He moved on to become the elementary principal the next school year. Coach Miller was an inspiration as a coach, and with the way he handled his recovery. I still get choked up when I hear about coach Miller and his family.  I thank God that he survived, and that I had a small part in saving his life.  I look at the children he had after his heart attack, and the contributions he made and I am humbled...
12. RC Slocum, MB Slocum Jim Colvin (Started on defense for 1964 Dallas Cowboys along with Joe Bob Isbell of Little Cypress who started on offense) David Foster, Jeep Colburn, Billy Fissette are some of the names from the late 50s and early 60s
13. It was not an early scare.  It was 48 minutes of terror for LT.  Malcolm Brown had 299 yards rushing.  Lake Travis had the right defense called on Steele's 4th and goal, and Steele ran right into it.   The key play of the game was when Brown ran over around and through the LT defense for the first 30 yards of of what looked to be a 80 or so yard TD play.  Brown was gassed and a Lake Travis player caught up with him inside the 20 and punched the ball out of his arm.  LT recovered and saved the TD.   Malcolm Brown is a Jr.  and will at or near the top of everybody recruiting list next year.  Some of his runs reminded me of Jim Brown'S NFL Highlights runs. FYI, Steele will be in class 5A next year, and Lake Travis will be back in class 4A.
14. There are nine class 4A districts in the metroplex.  That's more than all of Region III.  With that many teams there are bound to be some good ones, and some really tough districts.  PNG could win some of those districts and struggle to make the playoffs in others,  It's not that the players are 3 times better,  and there is so much more depth, it's that there are so many teams, and so many of the top teams play each other.
