dominatingly (is that a word?)
no that is not a word
I hate to say that I knew it wasnt a word but I really did,, it just sounded so good I had to try it, lol.
2. Stating the obvious, at this point its hard to know, it could go either way. When its over we may find that one team is dominatingly (is that a word?) better than the other but at this point I really dont think there is enough data to make a really sure fired prediction.

The only off the cuff data I can see is relative performance against PNG and since PNG played Crosby so early in the season that to me is useless info. Unfortunately my honest opinion is that Nederland might be good enough to go a couple of rounds but unless they REALLY turn the corner in the playoffs and begin to execute at a new level I just am not sure that they can beat a quality playoff contender. I really really REALLY hope they can though. One thing is for sure, I will be there every game to find out! ;)
3.
Micheal, While I did not agree with your "hideous" comment about the Nederland D, I do agree with you here..
Thats okay, I dont expect anyone much less everyone to agree with my comments, they are just my personal take on what I see... Nothing more than an opinion. I realize that sometimes I am harsh, but sometimes the truth is harsh and people dont just dont like to see it cause it makes them feel like they are not the kings of the world. I am just being honest to what I see, its not a personal attack its just what I see as the honest truth from my point of view, in print. Unlike some people I know on this board I dont say one thing in private and another in public, what you see is what you get. Also, you have to understand that I am a ravenous fan of the Bulldogs and an advocate of those kids, my intentions are never to tear them down. If anything maybe to piss them off and motivated to kick some butt.
4.
Here is the way I see it:
Dayton vs Vidor - Dayton is firing on all cylinders right now. they will move the ball and play some good D. vidor is one dimensional. OK D but I don't think they can stop those Broncos right now.
Crosby vs Nederland - Crosby moves the ball on off, does not turn the ball over much and has a D that will knock the crap out of you. When the game is on the line they will make plays. Nederland has a inexperienced QB, an RB, a line that needs some work and a D that is decent at best.
PNG vs Barbers Hill - PNG is on a roll but may have some hangovers from the big game last week and may walk into the game thinking they beat them once, they can do it again. NOT GOOD! Different Barbers Hill team. They still are tough on D and O.  Barbers Hill can move the ball on offense but their D needs some work.  Could be a close one if PNG does not jump on them.
Central vs GCM - Cental could so two things: be quit and let GCM hang with them or be pissed for blowing last weeks game and come out and destroy them. Their D has to stop the big play. GCM has to believe and hang with them. Create the big play, and move the ball. Could be a close one or major blow out.

For all you people releying on the non district scores from the beginning of the season, remember these are total different teams now.  Right now everyone is undefeated and the loser rolls out the basketballs!!!!
I agree with most everything except that Nederlands running back is inexperienced. He is not inexperienced and he is very good when he gets decent blocking. However, I could not honestly say that I think Nederland will win this game with any level of confidence, but I hope they do.  I do think they are capable of TAKING the game from Crosby but they will have to have the right game plan and execute well. If Crosby can get to Dionte and make him hurry his throws, and if they are a decent throwing team offensively, then its going to be tough for the Dogs to win.

One thing that I see is that although PNG and Central are good teams I am really not convinced that they are good enough to compete against a real playoff centender. Central is a good team but they are too one dimensional and I dont think their offense is quite dominating enough to get away with it. PNG reminds me of Nederland teams 6-8 years ago that were real good, but again they just lacked that overwhelming size and speed that teams need to beat the best off the best. They have all the ingredients though, time will tell if they have another level to take their game to to beat the best.

Vidor, well I hope they enjoy being in the playoffs for as long as they can hang in there.

GOOD LUCK 20-4A!!!!!!!!!!!

And when they have to get on this site and read the negative that doesn't do anything for their self-confidence.  Leave the coaching to the coaches they have confidence in their players to step and they usually always do.

I get what you are saying but you have to remember this is a football "DISCUSSION" forum. People are going to discuss, thats what the site is for and its what makes people come here at all for the sport of discussion in itself. They are going to discuss the good and they are going to discuss the bad. 100% of what you read here is pure opinion and nothing else unless a person is quoting actual historical data. Although I agree that we really should not call out players and coaches directly, I do believe that its the very nature of these sites that the performances on the field are sometimes going to be implied or called into question by the comments. Just like watching the commentators on ESPN, everyone involved has to take what they read/hear for what its worth which is absolutely nothing of value whatsoever, and make sure the kids understand the same. If I were a coach or parent, I would avoid this and all other sites like it altogether unless you are able to see it for nothing more than entertainment value. I would FORBID the kids from reading any of this junk. Its DEFINITELY not to be taken seriously. I dont even take myself seriously, much less what any other self proclaimed (or implied) authority has to say on here. I was doing this before there was a single purpose built Texas football site in the web way back in 1996, we did our talking with MsNed, Jake94, GoStangs, Coog4Life and the famous Austin Kinghorn from Barbers Hill on a little backdoor forum on the old Beaumont Enterprise site. Then came the flurry of sites like this and its been a free for all every since. Again, just take it for what it is, thousands of armchair QBs, all of which think they are the only one who knows anything about football, blessing all the other ignorant forum members with their exclusive, infinite wisdom.  ;D
6. First know that rankings are useless. Is
it fun to see your team in the top 10? Heck yeah! But in the end it is usually inaccurate unless there is a no brainer or two to up at the top. About all I have seen of value over the years is that one of the top 25 will be the eventual State Champ.

Second, we will NEVER have a state champ from this area until there is a staff that comes along that has two things to work with
a. A lot of raw talent.
B. A staff with the desire and  ability to motivate their players both present and up an coming to sell their souls to football and commit themselves to the incredible dedication it takes to be undeniable. That's not just football , that's life but it's super important in competitive sports where talent is never enough.
7. Honestly I think this game is wide open. What I saw of Lumberton, they are much weaker than even Nederland this year. This should be a fun game to watch.

As far as Central vs. Livingston, Central fell asleep that week. There is absolutely no way they should have lost that game. My guess is overconfidence and complacency cost them the opportunity for an undefeated season.

I remember the 1999 team, this years PNG team is far from the same caliber team.  The 1999 had better players at every position, not even close.
Sorry, but you're dead wrong! In our last state championship win (1975), we were picked to lose every game and "executed" our way to a state title. This team is much more balanced than the 1999 team was, (much as it hurts to say it.)  If we'd run the ball more, we could've beat Stephenville. If this team continues like it has the past 3 games, a state playoff game is very possible. Bring 'em on!
Uh, no. no no no no no no. Not no way, not no how. PNG was great in 1999, but there was no chance of them beating Kendall Briles by himself much less the Stephenville team. As good as the Indians were, the Briles era teams were at a whole different level of football. I made all the PNG playoff games in 99, this team is no where near remotely as good as that team was. They were totally dominating up front, they  had an absolutely great defense and they STILL could not contain Briles alone, much less there overall scheme. To me the best game that year for PNG was the game against Schertz Clemens at Kyle field. That was a game for the ages, However in the championship game other than a few plays, Stephenville dominated PNG in every way shape form and fashion. The game was never in question, Stephenville was in total control from start to finish. One thing I do remember being suprised about was Long struggling with overthrows. He overthrew several (most) clutch situation passes and just killed the momentum time after time. It was not at all what I expected. Good memories, I really enjoyed watching PNG make a run that season.

Nederland has always tried to compete with PNG and has never stacked up especially this year.  That's a stigma they haven't been able to overcome.  They make too many mistakes and a lot of it comes from the top.
This may be the most ignorant comment ever posted in this forum. Do you know Nederlands record vs PNG in the Neumann era?
10. Make no mistake, without Forney in there the Dogs are dead in the water. It would not have mattered which predecessor was playing. He has totally changed the way the offense functions. The kid can read well on the run and is checking off, not telegraphing his go-to receiver as soon as the ball is snapped which is SO refreshing to see. He is a head taller than everyone else on the field so he can SEE which is also a luxury the Dogs have not had in years. His ability to step up in the pocket and make good decisions has made the offense legit. Not that we did not have good backs, we do, but now with a little balance they can make the spread work like it should. Also, the O line has improved their pass protection, apparently having confidence in their QB has motivated them to play harder or something because generally Forney has had time to throw, but when he has been pressured he moves well enough to escape in time to get rid of the ball.

The defense is about the same, TOUGH in the middle, weak against the pass and marginal outside but they are scrappy and improving every week.

I skipped the Ned vs Livingston game and went to see PNG and Lumberton.
1. Although PNG is a good team, their competition in 20-4A is weak so its hard to tell how good they really are. I would guess come playoff time they will do okay until they hit a team that has a typical playoff o and d line, that will be the end of it. Thats not what I hope, its just what I see. I hope they beat everyone they play EXCEPT Nederland. :)

2. Lumberton was weak weak weak. Im not saying they cant beat Nederland because Nederland has been inconsistant. This years Raiders looks like the Raiders of old.... lots of pride but not much ability, no playmakers, too many mistakes, too small. Just an off year. They might beat the Dogs but I doubt it, if they do then the Dogs totally deserve to stay home this season.
11. 1. I do not hate the Nederland staff, quite the contrary. I really like them, respect them and have known a few of them all my life. I don't think they are getting all they can out of the kids right now(meaning over several seasons) but for the most part I would not trade em if I could.

2. Penny I was stoked at what happened Friday night from all perspectives. I thought it was a great effort on the part of the kids and the staff, I really mean that. I just think that to be fair and honest, Vidor had something going that they should have capitolized on, they were eating the Dogs D up with the option, specifically on the long pitch version. When they ran it our DE was tied up and could not get free fast enough to prevent the back from turni
g the corner uncovered and untouched. By the there was a Dog in site the ball carrier was at least 7-10 yards downfield. It was A GREAT play design, I think had they run it a little more it would have easily opened up the inside game Vidor so desperately wanted to force.

3. I will gladly be wrong if it means my Buldogs win, that's always my hope. I could really care less if I'm wrong to the Dogs advantage, although that does not happen much , lol..

Flamesuit on.
12. I think  Vidors singlemost retarded coaching decision was not repeatedly running the long pitch play until the Dogs figured out how to stop it. Nederland is absolutely hideous at defending the outside running game and absolutely cannot beat anyone to the corner. The Pirates made the Dogs look stupid everytime they ran that pitch and yet they only ran it 4-5 times, each time for huge gains. Had the Pirates run that play as their bread and butter instead of trying to prove you could run inside I think Vidor would have run over the Dogs. Learn to play to your strength and maybe
one day you will make the playoffs. I know no one wants it any worse than the Pirates.
13. Soulja I like how you think. All BS aside, I think a Few of things need to happen. First obviously we need to shake the injury bug. Second someone driving the ship has got to find a way to get the kids motivated, I mean really motivated again, Nederland was good when they Ate and slept football, we don't have the raw talent to live football 4 months a year and succeed. This has been a downhill spiral and regardless of injuries I don't think we were going anywhere this year. If they can get the kids in real football shape and get them hungry, really hungry, eating and sleeping football again we will be back,

14. Yeah I know 04, I was there. I just felt like that after 03 the intensity of the Dogs overall started to slide downward. I started going bulldog crazy in 96, and I made virtually every game after. I know the 04 team was good but the defense struggled as a team. There were a couple of really good individuals but collectively it just was not the same, it takes 11 players not 1-2. I'm absolutely certain you will disagree but I remember what I saw and I stand by it. I know we had 2-3 great players that year but they were carrying the team. If I'm thinking right that was the year that we went to SHSU and let an undisciplined sandlot Jacksonville offense run all over us.

Anyway, regardless of what anyone thinks there is no one that loves the Dogs more than me and wants to see them succeed more than me nor believes in them more than me. I am their advocate I'm just tired of watching it get progressively worse every year. Someone is going to have to stop making excuses and take charge and turn it around or we are Eventually going to get to watch our boys enjoy a winless season(s).

15. Thank you Central for letting up. This game could have easily been a 70 point night for Central. Dismal does not even begin to describe the state of affairs in Nederland. This program Has been spiraling down for 5 years and thankfully does not have much further to go to hit rock bottom. Injuries are not the problem either. I hate it for the kids that have been waiting to be Bulldogs all their life.

Your crazy.  Where were you when Neumann was winning district championships every year.  This is just one down year becuase of too many injured players.  The Dogs will still make the playoffs this year.  We already played the best 3 teams in the district.

uh,, okay.

16. 17. don't think any amount of running is going to help at this point. From what I  can see they need to play a hard, honest season and start bulking up And get serious about preparing as a team for next season. They are going to have to collectively be in a LOT better physical condition if they wanna compete. Just not enough muscle to go along with the heart.

18. The community and mote importantly the player just don't seem to have the interest level or intensity that we had from 96-02. It's like we got to a certain level and got used to being there, then it felt like the kids were preparing and playing like they were gonna win just because they were good " last year", all of the sudden around -03-04 we started to have to really struggle to maintain t

that level of success and by the time Micah mosely came around, he just did not have enough athletes around him that were mentally and physically commiyed enough to really truly play powerhouse football as a whole team. As the team struggled the fans and parents lost their excitement and you felt the electricity just disappear completely after Micah graduated. Now all there is left is a team of relatively mosdestly conditioned and capable kids, fans that are dead at games compared to how it was. One seems to be feeding off the other and the result is falling back into very average uninteresting football. If we are ever going to be a force again, someone is going to have to find a way to muster that spark and intensity in the boys,,... And we as fans are going to have to be ready for it. Ready to ROCK the stands on Friday nights in support. What I say may not be necessary in other towns. But the spark that started with a 98 yard run against Sweeny in predistrict 1997 season and lit a fire of INSANITY that burned for 6 years is liken to whAt we need now. So what we need is someone to step up and defy genetics with hard work and determination that will inspire the 50 or so boys that take the field with him. Until they sell out again as a team and we get over ourselves and start getting crazy with support (re. Lumberton 07, Ned 97) we will have to settle for a respectable team of good kids that are content with mediocrity.
