Don't get it?  Isn't that where intellect comes into play.  Be assured that Nederland will not take an intellectual back seat to anyone.
Nothing to do with intellect; as much as the discipline to want to do it the coach's way.
I simply say that having that discipline comes from the mental capability to understand why it should be that way and to accept it without question
Why must you try and always want to have the last word? It ain't gonna happen unless I deem it so :D
OK - Discipline is instinctive and mental acumen plays no part in the game of basketball.
No, I'm all about the mental side  and discipline is PHYSICAL :P
And I am implying that, on the mental side, the advantage goes to Mr. English and his players.
 3. Playing against a team that will not succumb to their pressure and force them to give every possible effort to win.  Force them to play their aggressive man to man without getting into foul trouble and make them be more selective on their three point efforts.  Those are the first  things that come to mind and frankly, I can't think of many teams (who would be likely available) that can effectively force those issues on Silsbee.  Furthermore, many teams can't handle Silsbees press and if they dont play someone that can, it wont help them in the playoffs.

If everyone truly believes in all the theories about how the tougher schedule better prepares you for big games, how could Silsbee and HJ find any better qualified preparation than each other?
Put yourself in Silsbee's shoes.  Let's say Sealy is two games down the road for Silsbee's play-off run and you don't feel that you match up well with Sealy.  Then, if I were Silsbee, I'd try and play a team that most closely resembles Sealy's style of play and see what works against them.
I understand your point but if you find a team with the same style as Sealy but they arent very good at that style (as compared to Sealy) I doubt you will get much from it.  If Hj is fearful of a quick and fast Navasota man defense, what team could best prepare them for that game? ( honestly, of course)

 7.
Thats kind of my point.  As long as his style is working-they are very tough.  I have seen a couple (not many) games in which his opponent was as good as his team and when adjustment time came-he struggled.
I watched them play Wheatley (whom Central beat this year) and the game was very much in doubt until the last 5 minutes.  The lead changed hands many times during the game.  Now the reason being given is that three Yates starters were missing.

 10. And yes, 51-34 is a blowout.  It is the equivalent of 102-68.
 11.
How will Wise fare coaching against guys like Sutherland and Siglar.  He has his critics.
Trust me, from a strategy standpoint, there is nothing Mr. Wise "knows" that the others you mentioned don't know as well.
 12.
DIDN'T REALIZE THAT A UNDEFEATED TEAM IN DISTRICT IS MAKING ALOT OF AJUSTMENTS. IF MR. ENGLISH IS MAKING ALOT OF ADJUSTMENTS IM GUESSING HE MUST HAVE A FEW WEAK LINKS IN HIS TEAM. EVEN A BLIND SQUIRREL CAN FIND AN ACORN EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE. 8)
The game of basketball is full of adjustments always.  I am suggesting (and so is the Nederland record) that Mr. English is quite adept at choosing where and when to make his adjustments.  I further suspect that every team has weak links and, in order to exploit them, the opposition must also make adjustments.  To this point, Mr. English is clearly the superior "adjustor".
 13.
wonder how many kids Yates had to "recruit to leave" to drop that many students...
Doesn't matter - they will be back as soon as the coast is clear-  I can promise you, though, that they will be under considerably more scrutiny than at anytime in the past

 15.
You gotta give the props to coaches at schools like Nederland (and HJ). They keep winning with [s]no [/s] little talent  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I guess that depends on how one interprets talent.  From my perspective, there are a couple of different ways (probably more) to arrive at your conclusion.  In one corner are those whose evaluation is based on speed, athleticism, and shake n bake capabilities while in the other corner are those who believe that skill and understanding/achieving the game objective are major components of "talent".
 16. Boy, I really hate to do this but I must also agree with the Dove (and that is very painful)
 17. What I meant to ask for was the paramaters for each classification.  As in 1-a is 200-400  etc etc
 18.
RC DONT WORRY I BET THEM CENTRAL AND OZEN COACHS HAVE BEEN REVIEWING THE TAPES LET NEDERLAND SHOW UP AT CENTRAL WITH THAT SAME OLE GAME PLAN. THEY MIGHT WALK IN HAPPY BUT LEAVE CRYING. :'(
Then what you are saying is that Central and Ozen are "smart" enough to make adjustments but Nederland isn't.  Recent results suggest that Mr. English is better than most at making adjustments.
 19.
It also is "futile" to say that one team is better than the other...which so many have...it has been proven that on any given night either team can WIN... Again, Good luck to both in the playoffs...
agree
 20.
"3A numbers:  450-1004 pitiful!  makes a lot of sense....3A always gets screwed in realignment numbers" In my opinion, they need to do something about this.  Schools such as Buna, OF, HF in the same classification as schools with more than 1000 students.  I realize they may never play any of these schools.  Maybe an option would be to add a 6A division.  Maybe this could bring up some larger 2A with smaller 3A.
Are the enrollment numbers available for each classification?
 21. that was my point- to make those projections for either game is futile
 22.
If he hits the weights, that will certainly help but I hope he dedicates some of that weight time to jumping rope.  I believe it will help him more
He should do both. Its not about today, but tomorrow.
My statement reflected that he do both.  I just believe that agility and quickness may be as important or more important than additional strength.
 23. A number of people have already crowned them as 3-a champs for the next ten years.  When those ten championships take place, they will be congratulated for having done so with fewer move ins than in the past.
 24.
Coach Davis was at jasper, but not the years that they beat HJ or Silsbee. His first year at HJ as an assistant was the year that Jasper beat HJ.
And Sean Weatherspoon (of the Atlanta Falcons) was a prominent part of that Jasper team
 25.
Also, Brian is one of the true good guys around.  He is a good person, as well as being a good coach.  Definitely the kind of coach a parent would want their kids to play for.
Well said.  Nothing more pleasing than to have a good guy with good values who "conforms with all the rules (both written and unwritten) do well.
