How did that happen? ;)
Would you not agree that public school employees(who made that decision) fall into the middle class?
With 1% Godfathers nearby offering a deal they could not refuse ;)
Hmm - let me see if I can figure this out. HJ and Silsbee coaches and ADs get together and discuss the difficulties they have had in their home and home series. They mutually agree to move the games to a larger venue. They agree to share the extra expense and/or split the additional revenues that are a result of the game. They call Ford Park and reserve the court for both games and Ford Park gives them a price to which they agree. Where do the 1% Godfathers come in? And what is in it for the greedy, selfish, uncompassionate Godfathers?

I might also add that it appears the 1% wants to move the HJ/Silsbee venue to attract more [s]customers[/s]..err fans. And possibly making the 47% who work hard for their money and pay taxes having to drive extra miles (to see family & friends play) thereby reducing their family income until their next pay check. And, after all of this x-tra pressure put on them by the 1%, Silsbee will win the game anyway. ;D ;D
LOL!! I have to hand it to you Dove, you are relentless. ;D
There were no 1 percenters in the decision making process but rather a group of coaches and administrators who are average joes. But I do understand how good that sounds to you. AS for additional proceeds, I suspect all if not more than all of the incremental gains will go toward renting the facility and paying for the security. But if the schools did come out ahead a little, arent all of you good Dems in favor of more $ for education anyway? And could you please calculate the additional fuel costs that will be incurred by those who attend? You also might want to refer to the board regarding the games last year where every Tom Dick and Harry ( yep, the same guys who will have to go that horrible extra expense) were complaining that they couldnt get into the game and it ought to be moved.

Yeah, right. All we have to do, then, is to define a "fair shot" Seems like paying no taxes and getting government assistance is considerably more than a fair shot.

Who do you think has the best shot at going to Austin?

I once saw Glen Big Baby Davis "blow by" Dwight Howard but am pretty sure it was the exception rather than the rule. -

Adds to the atmosphere!
Too many people have been unable to attend the games- since you are a Democrat who believes in the "give everyone a fair shot" doctrine, surely you understand wanting to let more people participate in these games.
Thats why I can't understand (actually I do) why you are pulling for a new venue. ;D
I wasnt pulling for it ( because I am a heartless and selfish one percenter who wants to have the entire gym to himself and deprive other deserving individuals of a place a the game-)But I decided that the mutual decision by the two schools was a judgement that would be superior to mine. What do you think about doing this: When people enter the gym, the upper 50% of wage earners pay the admission for the lower 50% so that everyone gets a "fair shot"

Right......BUT, Bellaire got an awful lot of really good baseball players being a magnet school. My understanding then was that if they offered a course that the students school didn't offer they could transfer. I guess all baseball players wanted to learn Russian or Zimbabweian or whatever 3rd world country language was hot that year
What? I personally know kids at Yates making good grades AND they earn them!!! My son is good friends with several of the players. Yates is an inner city school and like most of these schools they have to try and educate the students most other non-inner city schools don't want as students.
Give it up Dove. They are coming to Yates to play basketball. You know it. I know it. So does everyone else. Inner city does NOT justify anything that is taking place.

Enough said!!!!!
Ok- excuse me- I have been misunderstanding the definition of real basketball- I now understand perfectly that the Dove definition of real basketball has been changed to simply mean that if HJ isn't involved, it must be real. Thanks for the clarification. -
I remember Donoho (sp?) and I think he had a cousin playing guard the next season. So did Donoho move on after JUCO to another school? He was a good player.
Yes, he went to a small school in Oklahoma but I can't remember the name. I think you will find that Sammy Mitchell is a very close relative of Donahoe.

Where did he go afterwards and how did he do?
If you are unable to remember the state title of six years ago, how can you remember any of the players names? I also might add there was another trip to Austin in recent history that did not produce a state title.

What's next for Yates basketball?
I was blessed to be back home today and visited the new YMCA located in 3rd Ward near Jack Yates. I saw several games with local high school players who I assumed lived in the area and may attend Yates. If Yates is recruiting, now I see why. LOL!
Yates recruiting? No way!!! They strictly adhere to all rules. -
