Tim Riggins got a reaction from bigned85 in The State of 22-5A
Well said. Any team in the district would be happy to have a win over Nederland due to the Bulldogs' success since Coach Neumann has been there. The matchup doesn't need to be a true PNG vs Nederland type rivalry game for fans of the opposing team to enjoy a victory. And yes, for the past 5 years Nederland has set the bar for success in this district.

Nederland fans spend more time arguing and convincing themselves that this isnt a big game every year, Vidor fans mentioned rivalry about a decade ago and some Ned fans cry about it every year. Just enjoy the football and be glad we'll have an electric atmosphere everytime these two play. Vidor brings a fun and solid fan base and plays hard nosed football, lets just enjoy this matchup.

I couldn't agree more. I've seen solid improvements in defense.

Yes, I'd be interested to see how many penalties the Pirates had tonight. Luckily they could overcome them. I think Ozen only had two or three calls. Defense has definitely shown improvement over last year. As for the offense, two weeks in a row with no punts or turnovers and that running back combo lit it up tonight. Even the second teamers playing in the 4th qtr. kept moving the ball. You could see that in the 3rd and 4th quarters, Coach Matthews had the QBs milking the 40 second clock every play.

I actually thought Vidor would make the playoffs last year because the young kids had matured over the years. I know it's only 1 game, but that offense is clicking & the defense ain't too shabby. Ozen on the other hand played 2 schools we had no business playing IMO. I told folks before the season started Ozen would be ok. Again it's only 1 win so far, but the Panthers have some playmakers on both side of the ball. Any team expecting an easy out will be very disappointed. Once the offense moves the ball just a little, teams are in for a game. Our punter may be an All District Selection if he keeps kicking the way he has been the past few weeks. This will be a pivotal game for both teams. 2-0 in District sure would be nice for both, but only one will make that claim. Good luck to both Teams & praying for an injury & DRAMA free game. Go Panthers!!!

That was back in in the day of the old District 19-4A. Jasper, Silsbee, Vidor, Lumberton, Ozen and Livingston. That was a good, competitive district, I miss that one.

You are correct, 24-28 points a game should be enough to win games against all but the most prolific offenses. Vidor's offensive numbers/TDs and, I believe, won/loss record, would be better, but costly penalties and fumbles have killed numerous promising drives this year. Just last night, Duff had the long run down to the Central 2 or 3 yard line in a one score game that was called back due to holding. Another that comes to mind is the lost fumble at the Nederland 22 down by six. Defense is much more of a problem than offense. We give up too many big plays.

You know what's funny: a few years ago Ozen NEEDED a big win from Vidor in order to make the playoffs. Vidor didn't need the win as they already clinched a spot. But Vidor DID IT for those Panther kids. They thanked and embraced each other after the game, and even during the playoffs. Furthermore, the two teams shared workouts at each other's schools and the teams grew bonds. Racial barriers seemed broken....That was just a few years ago and Ozen is just as black as Central. My point is why in the hell do WE EACH keep going back in time. Now I understand why I took a break from "messysports.com"

Nice, a winning touchdown pass to end a clutch scoring drive. Sounds like it was an exciting 4th qtr.

I don't know, it will depend on defensive improvement, I do think offense can hold it's own with anybody though.

You are correct, starters were out after the first touchdown drive of the third quarter. Lee scored three TDs on backups. Backups scored two TDs on Lee. Lee kept their starting offense in the whole game as far as I could tell.

I agree about the playoff spots being more contested this year, but IMO, PNG should be favored to win district.

Not taking a thing away from Newton, but my guess is that WOS will be the last standing out of this area.
