I have not attended a varsity meet yet but went to watch my fiance's freshman meet at Pearland Dawson yesterday. A freshman from Manvel ran a 10.88.

Hope to make it out for a game or 2.......will be even better to sit by Coach Herrington for his commentary........that is worth the price of admission

Coach Bear, I wish you could have met him and had a talk. I meet with some coaches for breakfast when I can and Jackie was one of them. After hearing of his diagnosis, I walked out to his truck with him when leaving and just said "Coach, I am sorry for the news you got about cancer. I hope everything goes ok." His response amazed me........"John, I know there is a bigger plan here. I am not worried for me one bit because I know where my path leads.......God is good all the time." RIP Coach

Jackie Byrd, former DB coach at Baytown Lee and BH passed away this morning from pancreatic cancer. Heaven gained a good man today

The kid was an amazing athlete. His problem, as with alot of stud athletes, is who they surround themselves with. No one had Marcus's best interest in mind, everyone had an ulterior motive. I cannot wait for that documentary on Earl to come out. And I agree with you that there will not be another like him in my lifetime.

You are right oldbuc........the kids are in great shape and know how to tackle in the open field. Maybe Mack Brown should look to 6 man for some db's

Well, being stuck up here in the panhandle for a little while I went Friday to catch a 1st round playoff game in 6 man. It is a different and interesting game. This is a game where the team with the overall best athletes will win. I think one team had 18 players total and the other had 11 or 12 but I am willing to bet the starting 6 never came off the field unless someone was hurt. I think it is best characterized as an organized sandlot game. Those kids couldn't have had enough energy to party after the game......heck, I was tired just watching them

I cannot view the link.....at work. I am Earl's biggest fan and I think he was a man among boys.....that said, I do not think any kid is physically ready for the pros at 18. He was a beast tho

I will be reporting from Wellington, Texas tonight folks. Follett vs. Groom will be kicking off at 7:30pm. It will be low 50's to upper 40's and clear skies for kickoff. I have not come across a prediction thread on this game yet but I will report the scores because I know there is much anticipation in this marquee 6-man match-up

I am stuck in Shamrock Texas.......there seems to be 200 miles between games up here. Most games are in the Amarillo area so maybe Saturday I will catch one. I did see a few deer this morning but they were like 3 counties over.........dang it is flat and no trees here
