  1. I'll be at Friday night's game between Lumberton and PNG taking pictures for The Silsbee Bee. If anyone out there wants me to shoot photos of a specific player -- from either team -- please just email me and let me know and I'll concentrate on getting that player in action. You can check out my photo web site to see the kind of pictures I'm talking about ... www.gld-designs.smugmug.com Thanks guys and good luck! Gerry My email is [email protected]

  3. It would be foolish to rule out the Lions completely. Ask the Cougars if they were expecting the Kountze team they met Friday night. The Lions have realized a pride and a confidence that everyone denied them early in the season. The players and coaches knew their ability when they first stepped on the practice field this year. The fans soon caught on and have been coming out in droves this year. Now the rest of the area is getting a good look at what hard work and "heart" work will do for a team. Kountze isn't just a basketball school. We're a school with athletes who have character and drive and dedication to doing their very best with every snap of the ball. They proved that once again Friday night. They'll prove it again. After an open week, Kountze has road trips to Hardin and Deweyville and host EC for their final home game of the year on Nov. 2. It won't be an easy road for the Lions. Guess what? We're used to "not easy" and we're still 5-2 this season.

  9. Nice job, as usual, Will ... I only had the chance to shoot the first quarter and a half since I had to shoot the second half of the Kountze game ... guess I missed the best part of the game in Lumberton!

  16. Well, if no one else will say it ... Kountze did a great job tonight. They played their hearts out and we really thought we had a chance to pull off another win right there at the end. Morrison was knocked out and WH ran to the side where he should have been for the rest of the night. Refs did a crap-job all night ... both sides got it. Ridiculous.
  17. The trick is that the Lions have no fewer than six athlete who can run the ball ... and run it well. You've got the brothers ... Trey and Jarod Howard, then there's Milton Williams, Domingo Smith, and Thomas Wolcott. If they have Donte Barnes back this week, it's a done deal. If our guys can just hold on to the ball, they have a real shot at doing some big things this year. The passing game is coming on with Neal Batman and Smith sharing time at QB. Smith can flat-out run the ball and Batman is finding his range as a passer. He can run in a pinch too. Now ... about that Lions defense. Between Scotty Gilmore, Chad Morrison and Thomas Wolcott ... good grief. I wouldn't want to run against that. (I'm old ... if I did, I'd probably break a hip!) There are so many other guys on defense this year who are doing a great job. This is the most complete package I've ever seen Kountze have ... and I've been watching them as a sports writer for nearly 20 years! I'm saying Kountze 35, WH 6 ...
  18. He's a pretty big boy ... works both sides of the line ... intense dude.

  23. Being a 1985 graduate of Kirbyville High School and a solid, 100 percent Dad supporter of Kountze athletics, I stand here very proud of my alumni and my Lions, all at the same time!
  24. There are actually two newspapers in the county right now. Between the two, the entire county is covered. The Hardin County News is getting better with its sports coverage. The Bee, where I'm the editor, considers sports to be part of the lifeblood of our circulation.
  25. Absolutely not ... this is NOT about Lumberton or its fans or players or coaches. This is about one guy who decided he needed to enforce "the rules" without regard for common sense. I understand there is quite a bit of competition for photography service in this area and I appreciate the fact that some folks should have exclusive access to the sidelines. But that exclusivity only exists for commercial photography. As for newspapers, there is a little thing called the Constitution that allows me to be there. No ... Lumberton folks have always been supportive of our efforts to provide news coverage for their community. Wanna solid example of that? Will France has already dropped off photos of Friday night's game for us to use in next week's Bee. Will is the sort of person who represents the city of Lumberton, not the one yahoo who booted us off the field. Thanks, Will.
