I always feel like there's plenty of variables at play in these things....honestly going for 2 originally seems like the right call...underdog on the road...steal a win...my guess is Willis was on the fence and then penalty and the extra 1.5 yards pushed him to give it a shot.....in vaccum guaranteed points are always safest...but in the scenario where 1 more point from 1.5 yards and its game over vs taking your chances in OT those statistical models may change
You just took 3 tries to get 2.5 yards.

If Crosby went for two and got it....would everyone still be mad about the call??
It very nearly worked, took a great play by the Consol defense to hold the QB out of the end zone....I dont mind a coach trusting his kids to go win the game there, espeically as a road underdog....same thing for Friendswood who was in the exact same scenario except they were on the 3 and not the 1.5 yard line..
Seems like Crosby has gotten better each of the last 3 years....4 of the 6 losses this year were by one score...
It would have still objectively been a bad call and it's a bad call because you took the certain points off the board. Not sure where you come from but where i come from we were always taught a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. If he had originally decided to go for 2 to win it (Like Friendswood did) and lost then that fine, but when you have a tie game you cannot untie the game to try and go for two everything about the decision was nonsense, if he had succeeded we would of course be happy with a second round game, but it would have still been the objectively incorrect decision. I asked a buddy who does some stats work for Northwestern what the data says and his exact words were nothing is more statistically valuable then guaranteed points. So under no old coach model (traditional) or stats model (modern) is this the correct call to make. Also, grandpa knew better and he never coached a day in his life but had more life experience than any of these coaches dreamed of having.

FINAL
35-34 Austin Anderson
Did they miss the PAT or go for 2?

Three losing seasons, 2 back to back first round exits, non-competitive with the top of the district.
This is not Crosby football it feels like I'm watching PAM from 6-7 years ago? All that talent being wasted.

What a joke of a choke job by that play caller you do not take points off the board, so bad.

I like our odds
If we are any better than we were last year and I think offensively we are because we aren't so one dimensional then we have a shot, what worries me is the 7 point 2nd half versus La Porte.

Glad we took care of business and didn't look ahead to next week.
looking like we will be playing for 2nd in the district right now .

Neither team really looked good last night. I don’t know if they both decided to have turnover/penaltyitis/undisciplinitus or what the same game.
Watched the game again. Crosby could do no wrong early. Best I’ve seen them play maybe all season. LP looked flat right off the bus, and didn’t really ever get any better. They made just enough plays to win.
Ugly win. But—as they say—better than a pretty loss. Sometimes, these type games help the team refocus. Let’s hope that’s the case for both teams. I’d like to see 11-5A represent well in PO’s.
Side note: Angleton fans are saying they lost their stellar QB (Duron) to a shoulder injury, and also their excellent receiver. Also hearing Iowa Colony lost their QB to shoulder injury. Hate to see injuries. At least LP & Crosby seemed to come away pretty much unscathed on the injury front. We can be thankful for that.
Beats the heck out of an ugly loss...

I’m more worried about our “staff” than theirs. Hopefully, we don’t try more stuff like pooch kicking from our 25 on a kickoff, calling time out for the other team, and lack of scoring on 1st and goal from the 1. All of that is on the coach.
Nah Berneathy and that staff are the real threats our adjustment tend to be minor to non-existent.
-
Heck of a game so far, my angle on that Robinson Run was he was in which hurts that we didn't get points there but big defensive stop to end the 2nd. We need some more big plays but Joe for joes we can matchup with this LP team. But worried about what that extremely good staff at LP is going to cook up in half time but good 1st half.

Is Crosby actually smaller this alignment? Maybe I'm misremembering but weren't we 2091 at last realignment and 2090 now
edit nevermind misremembered we were 1904 last realignment.

Yep. LP hasn’t played Pasadena yet like y’all and Angleton to pad stats more.
To give y’all credit though, you’ve actually played a tough team in Iowa Colony. Angleton’s only played against 1 team with a winning record all year, and that was New Caney Porter…the team LP just blew away playing their backups in the 2nd quarter. It’s entirely possible—and probable—Angleton will be a 1 or 2 seed for PO’s and only have played one team all year that finishes over .500 before the PO’s.
Since LP’s early loss to PN-G, people have decided LP isn’t as good as last year. Similar to NS & SOC. Funny thing is, LP is actually scoring more, giving up less, and are more balanced as an offense. They’ve also been able to play backups quite a bit. This whole year has been geared for a slow progression towards the PO’s.
I don’t expect a score like last year in our game. But, I do see about a 3 score difference at least. But, that’s more from improvement on y’all’s end than a drop off from LP. Y’all almost had Angleton last year, and I’m not counting y’all out of that game this year.
I think Willis is doing okay at Crosby. He has y’all moving in the right direction.
TBF our offense stats versus Pasadena aren't that crazy we returned multiple kicks, picks and other tunrovers for very short yardage or TD's so I wouldn't be surpised if the offensive numbers looked pedestrian for that one.

Seems Friendswood was tired of the losing after playing the top 3 teams in district to start the year.
-
Crosby is clearly the underdog in this one.
we need all three phases to be in synch to win this one, we don't win a shootout we need to control the ball shrink the game get big plays if we are going to win this one.
if we can take the top off the defense it might open up the run in reality that has to happen.
one wrinkle is last year the coaching staff installed a ton of RPO versus La Porte last year so is there a wrinkle this year?
it did not work last year but history is history right?

I honestly don’t think y’all will be able to score near enough to beat either Angleton or La Porte. Angleton’s D won’t face their first real test until LP. LP D has made personnel/scheme changes since PNG, and is coming along nicely now. Of course, the level of competition hasn’t been at the level of the predistrict yet. That will start with y’all & Angleton. I’m feeling a lot better about it though.
Y’all’s best shot at Angleton is playing them the next week after they play LP. I don’t see LP overlooking y’all as you should still be undefeated next week when we play. Plus, LP hasn’t lost a district game in over 2 years. Not sure they’re going to just give up the crown without a ‘Dawg’ fight.
If my statement seemed like a prediction it wasn't, it was what would have to happen for Crosby to beat either of those teams. We need special teams plays to turn you over and to beat you deep to effect the shape of the defense.
Don't have a ton of confidence we can do that. That being said the QB has been getting time to throw it and when he does it's been pretty darn good. I doubt Angleton or LP will give him that amount of time but if it's truly offensive line improvement and not just poor opponents then maybe... there's a punchers chance.
this is the most roses I've been on the Cougars in this AD Admin.

All y'all have to do is take care of Kempner this week, and Porter in Week 10 and 3rd Seed is locked up. Shouldn't be an issue. I saw where Vype finally had y'all ranked this week. I thought they would. Congrats! I think y'all are probably higher than 9th in GHA though. I'd say 7ish. Definitely better than Madison or Texas City.
It's great for the kids for sure.
i just cannot unsee the first three games of the season if you just didn't watch those and only watched the district games then Crosby looks like a scary team that can make a deep playoff run. But Iowa Colony beat the breaks off us and we lost to a Dayton team that doesn't look like it'll make the playoffs and a FBM team that does not look like an FBM team.
what we did to Kingwood Park, and Friendswood is nothing to sniff at but we have shown spurts of dominance and not a sort of overwhelming style of play, like I think once we play good teams it falls apart but I'd love to be wrong.
The biggest turn around is that this team is a three phase team that turns you over, returns kicks well and is not afraid to throw it deep. We didn't really do two of those things well last year and yet almost took out Angleton.
the Young man at Runningback is not the skill of our guys last year but he's coming along, and the o line is creating better holes for him lately, part of that is likely due to the offense taking the top off these defenses we've been playing but I wonder what a big TD pass over the top would do to LP or Angeltons defensive shape and if we'd be able to run it.
-
Cougars have a game that on paper should be a blowout this week but cannot overlook anyone, very interested in seeing our games against those last three, just wonder how we match up, not sure anyone can stop that RB from LP but maybe the Cougars can continue their scoring in three phases trend, any team that provide defensive and Special Teams TD's is hard to beat and we will need to play our very best those last three weeks, and each week of the playoffs, in reality if you end top 2 in this district you have a chance at a playoff run if you finish 3rd or 4th it gets much much harder to make a run.
As this will almost assuredly be the last time they keep these teams together given the shifts in school sizes out East It would be nice for the Cougars to find some magic, but as of yet they have not been able to win close games, and they almost let Friendswood come back in a game they had a huge lead, so 1-3 in close games when we likely have 2 close games coming is a worry.

Way to finish this one after a horrible 3rd quarter.
-
We just got called to ball by the announcer in sec you've been calling the whole game and still call us Tomball.
-
Great drive by Roberson and crew exactly what the cougars needed 15 plays 75 yards.
Roberson was the featured runner in that is preventing the pass blitz and that's key/
-
3rd down stop -> 15 yard penalty Mustangs score.
biw we throw a pick we are making Friendswood look like Aledo right now. instant TD on blown 1v1 coverage

I won't be surprised to see Crosby win this one by a touchdown.
On a side note, I still have trouble seeing Crosby classified as 5aD1, for some reason. It's been a while since I drove through there. Up Hwy 90 from Dayton, I guess they rate having a Starbucks . (Dayton doesn't have a Starbucks, but they beat Crosby.)
Liberty has a Starbucks so ...
