  1. Yeah, since Kirbyville and Newton are 2A, I'm sure they don't have anyone who could start RB for Vidor or PNG.  I would be willing to bet that any 20-4A team would love to have the kid from Kirbyville or the Benett kid from Newton.
  2. Unless another typhoon comes through, and according to the local weathermen its suppose to be dry, I don't think West Brook will win.  Play North Shore close?  Maybe, but I don't see them winning.  If North Shore pulls another Obama, and distributes the wealth, like they did against Katy and PAM, and gives the ball up 7 times West Brook will have a chance.  If they can keep the turnovers down to a minimum they will roll out of Beaumont happy campers.
  3. I hope that PNG does well and advances through the playoffs, but I'll be surprised if they make it to the quarters.  The last thing they need to worry about is Angleton.  They will have other tests before them.  I think the jury is still out on how "great" they actually are.  I don't think they have beaten anyone that great, and thats why they are not ranked any higher than they are in most polls. People making comparasions between this team and the 1999 team are either dreaming, or saw the 99 team play bad games.  This team is good, 99 was great.  The 99 team played some pretty good teams in the regular season, and then proved their mettle in the playoffs beating Waller, Brazosport, Lamarque, and Schertz Clemens, all very good teams.  Any suggestions saying this team is anything close to that team is premature and over the top.
  4. I thought #3 Curtis Brown and #Chykie Brown started.  #4 Aaron Williams is usually the starter but has been banged up.  Beasley has never done much at Texas.
  5. I don't think he did.  Beasley is the 4th best corner on the team.  He played the other day because #8 Chykie Brown was hurt and it was a blowout.  Beasley put himself behind the eight ball early, because he was ineligble for grade reasons.
  6. I remember the 1999 team, this years PNG team is far from the same caliber team.  The 1999 had better players at every position, not even close.
  7. If this were to happen, I'm going to win the lottery tonight.  First off, they would meet in the semi's, not the finals.  The state title will be a LT vs. Longview rematch, or LT vs. on of the Denton schools (Guyer, or Ryan) This state title game is still 7 weeks away, PNG needs to worry about beating Central before they can dream of taking on the 2-time defending state champions. I am a PNG fan, I love their tradition, but this PNG team isn't a state title caliber team.  They may have exceeded expectations, and are possibly one of the more surprising teams in the state, but I think the jury is still out on them as far as being a top flight team.  9-0 is a great record and speaks for itself, but who have they beat that would suggest they would play into December.  I just don't think they are at a level of a Lake Travis, or Longview, yet. Best of luck to the Indians, I hope you prove me wrong.
  8. 1.  You play to win games, not take the easy road. 2.  I don't think Barbay and Coldspring is afraid of WOS.  This WOS team isn't as good as they have been the past few years. 3.  If both teams are good enough, you would have to play them at some point down the road.
  9. I think Deweyville would beat PNG this year too.  ;D
  10. The sign is still there, between Timpson and Teneha. Speaking of unlevel fields, I think the San Augustine field is still unlevel.  Anyone who has been there lately maybe able to speak for that.  I remember the fields runs downhill away from the concession stands and fieldhouse all 100 yards.  When your standing in the far endzone and look back towards the fieldhouses it looks like it drops about 3 feet.
  11. What?  I don't have a problem with West Brook.  Although they have passed my expectations for this year, I don't think they are that great.  Just because I don't worship them and don't think they will win district, and think that they have yet to beat any really good teams don't mean that I dislike them.  :'(
  12. LOL!  I've heard the song lots of times, but I can't sing along.  You don't get to hear that one on the radio to be able to memorize it like the newer songs.  Ol' Tex Ritter made those places famous though.  My parents are from Teneha (actually Paxton), but like everyone else had moved down this way to make a living.  We still have the old family place up there though, on HWY 84.
  13. They didn't have that attitude last year.  That could be one of the many reasons they have a new HC this season.
  14. Political correctness, blah, blah, blah.  Its called an opinion, and just because you may not agree with it, it don't make it wrong. The bottom line is, don't criticize WOS and West Brook and you willl be ok.
  15. That all sounds great, but I would expect a little more intensity and effort if the playoffs were still a possibility.  I also expect a deflated team taking the field after a heartbreaking loss to their arch rivals.  It don't help that WOS is similar to Silsbee in terms of speed and athletic ability and you know what happened in the Silsbee game.  I hope that Orangefield goes into the game with confidence and the belief that they can win, because in years past that hasn't always been the case.  Either way I think WOS wins by a comfortable margin.
  16. Since I figured that North Shore will handle West Brook with ease, I thought that North Shore would be district champs with a head-to-head win and identical records.   It really don't matter though, if West Brook goes D1 they would be the 2nd seed playing a good team in the first round.  District champions sounds good, losing in the first round don't.  Thats what is probably going to happen, unless Brook sneaks into the D2 bracket. Thanks for the math lesson though, coach.
  17. Orangefiled don't have alot to play for this week.  If the playoffs were still up for grabs I would expect a close game, but now I'm leaning towards a blowout.  Similar to the Silsbee game.
  18. PAM screwed West Brook out of a district tri-chamion.  North Shore will now win it outright now. I think it will be a much better game than last year, and North Shore will win by 2 td's.  It will be low scoring like the PAM game, and West Brook will get good prep time for the playoffs against a good defense.

  20. I'm a Kirbyville fan and homer?  LOL!  I'm from Orange County and now live in Lumberton, I don't have a side in this, unlike you.  For the record, can you tell me what the final score was in the 2000 state title game against Ennis?  Do you care to reflect?  What about last years game with Gilmer?  The "best DC's ever" as you would like me to believe, do it when it counts, not playing the Orangefields, Bridge City's, HJ's, Hampshire's, and Kirbyville's.  WOS has fallen on bad times when shutting these people out, and beating a 2A team is room for boasting.  Who would have thought the once mighty WOS that had great teams in the 80's and 90's would have to resort to beating 2A and 3a teams for a measuring stick.  Truely sad. WT did it in Newton for several years beating 3A and 4A schools, then going through the playoffs with a much smaller enrollment than their opponents.  Like I said earlier, the last 10 years it hasn't even been close as to who has been more successful.  I guess you also want me to believe that Dan Ray is a better coach than Coach Barbay too. To wosmustangs  :'(    Show me how I disrespected the names of all the legendary SE Texas coaches by saying WT is a better DC than your beloved Cornel.  I never mentioned their names, you did show some good history though  :o.  I hold most of those guys in high regard actually, along with Willie Ray Smith, Les Koening, Roy Harper, Gene Wakoviak, and Ed Peveto.  Because I don't think Cornel is the best DC in SE Texas don't mean I disrepect anyone, so go cry me a river.....  I guess you can save the tears for another early playoff exit though.
  21. Your right!  Newton won state in 1998 shutting out a very good Dangerfield team 21-0.  That was in 3A.  Don't forget the other 2 state title games Newton has gone to sinc then in 2A.  They lost one, and won one.  Thats 3 state title games since WOS has sniffed the ultimate game, and 2 state championships since WOS has won their last in 1987 (can you remember that far back?). What has WOS done in 3A, the past 6 years other than embarrass a once proud name.  WOS was one of the more dominant teams in 4A for a long period of time, and when they dropped to 3A were expected to have a strangle hold on the state titles.  WRONG!  Have they even made it to the semi's?  Thats pretty sad!  Really, you call that meeting expectations?  I hope not.   Also, please give me some factual info, out of a newspaper if you want me to believe you.  Don't just come out and throw out numbers.  WT has also done it everwhere he has been.   Again, look at when Cornel left to "greener" pastures.  Palestein, failure.  Huntsville, major failure.  Only at WOS can he claim success.  And if he can't dominate at a 3A level with the talent that he coaches, and shut much weaker teams out with the much ballyhooed "chain gang" defense then something would be terribly wrong.  Its truely sad that WOS was the talk of Texas as a 5A and 4A power, but can't match the success against much lesser, weaker competition. Can one of the WOS homers, clarify why Cornel thought Adrian Peterson wasn't good enough to play tailback for him at Palestein?  I always wanted to know that.  Thats a pretty good reason as to why he couldn't cut the mustard there.
  22. If you want to go back and rely on what he did in the 80's and 90's then yes, Cornel would be the best.  What has he done in the last 6 years.  Since he left WOS for Palestein he hasn't done much.  He failed in Palestine, and didn't do much at Huntsville.  The only success he has had is at WOS.  And that was his previous stint.  For some reason, his defenses playing lesser competition in 3A have been worse than when they played in a tougher 4a league. Lie I said WT is the best DC in the area.  Tell me who's defense they are running in K-ville and that will tell you who's has the input.
  23. There's entirely too many state championship games to be played in one weekend at the same site.  Unless they did a thurday-friday-saturday deal. If the sites are predetermined hopefully they will set several games at the same place.  It was always nice to get up on a Saturday morning  and drive to the Astrodome and watch 3 good playoff games.  Having the opportunity to watch more than one state title game in the same day really don't sould all that bad.  The only bad thing is is that that site might not be neutral or one of the opponents.
