Keyerzore I know plenty of football. I know enough to know that West Brook's district is the weakest in the Houston area. I also know that they will make the playoffs, but that's not something to really gauge how good you are, since 4 out of 6 teams make it. I also know when your 5A, beating Central and Ozen is not a monumental task, or a very good measuring stick. The bottom line is West Brook is young, inexperienced and not very good. Spring Westfield was their 1st true test, look at the outcome. Post back in two weeks, after IKE and Katy and let me know if I'm wrong. I think you actually know the truth, but afraid to face reality. Please tell me where I'm wrong, and how "I don't know football"?

I hate to compare scores, but I think your right. Newton by a lot!

The good news for next week is that IKE won't be as good or well coached. They still will be a tough win though. I hope WB makes it out this game with no injuries.

What's gonna happen is....... Westbrook is gonna find out that there are much better football teams outside the city of Beaumont. They are also gonna find out how much they miss last years seniors, and find out how much trouble they are in when they face 5A competition.

Noway its the worst 5a district. Plenty of disticts in El Paso and the valley that make 21-5A look tough. Your right though, West Brook will go to the playoffs with a not-so-good record. That has something to do with the next 3 games they play. Not an easy schedule after this week. They better hope they beat Central or a 5-5 record maybe inevitable.

I can't believe anyone would question whether or not a h.s. kid in TEXAS made the right decision to play football. Sure Bellow is a good baseball player, and he has most of his college education paid for, but what ever happened to the well rounded athlete. The kid is also a good h.s. QB, and if not for a crazy injury, no one would second guess his decision. I've read in several publication that Auggie Gaurido likes his baseball players to have played football. Its shows him that they are tough and have grit. When your the QB for a h.s. with good tradition you also have good leadership qualities. Bellow has all of that I'm sure, and an injury like this will do nothing but make him tougher. This is not the 1970's. Nowadays, an ACL tear is next to minor. They will fix it and it will be stronger than it was before, and he will have a good senior campaign. Let the kids play multiple sports, encourage them to be dual athletes instead of questioning whats "best for their future."

Ozen is in for a long season. I, for one don't think Westbrook is very good and the outcome of the Westbrook/Ozen game did little to change my point of view. Although I think that Westbrook will improve offensively throughout the year, they don't have the weapons and firepower to beat anyone well coached. I also don't think they are coached very well defensively and the 5A teams coming up on their schedule will exploit that. I don't know much about Central other than they have really good athletes. Just as good as Westbrook's. I'm going with Westbrook in a close one, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Central beat them. Westbrook better enjoy the "W" column while they can, b/c the next 3 weeks will be the true test as to how good they really are.

I'll go with West Brook in a close one. This will also be West Brook's last preseaon win of 2009.

The good news for Livingston is that 20-4A is wide open. IMO its a down year, and there are no clear cut favorites to run away with it. I haven't seen anyone, yet, put on a jaw dropping performance. Livingson has a good a chance as anyone. At this point I don't think you can rule any of the 8 in this district out of one of the 4 playoff spots.

I'll go with O'field in this one. Huckaby is a solid coach and seems to be a good O coordinator. Buna lost two much to keep up w/ O'field, although the bobcat D will give them the chances. O'field by 13

We will find out how good The Woodlands is this week. They play a Katy team in Katy that is hell bent on revenge. After the whoppin they took at the hands of The Woodlands lat year, I doubt Katy has forgotten it. Katy is the real deal. I'll be going back in two weeks to watch them play Bellevue (WA). After you watch a Katy game in Katy, esp. against another top notch program, you find out there's really no where else to watch a high school football game. As great as the atmosphere is at PNG, Katy has them beat. SFA, one day Memorial will be able to play with the elites of Houston. A lot will have to change and it will take some time. I graduated from O'field in 75 and live in Lumberton now. My kids have graduated and I have the opportunity to watch whomever I want. I remember though when they were in h.s. watching Lincoln and TJ run track in the late 90's and 2000-2002. Both schools consistenly ran sub 42 in the 4x100 and 3:17 or better in the 4x400. I have said on a regular basis and I'm shy to admit that I think that Memorial has more athletes under one roof than just about anyone in the whole country. They have the benefit of being the only h.s. in a decent size town, and they have all the athletes to themselves. I know there is a lot to fix, and it will take someone special to do it. Unfortunately the guy they have their now will do nothing but make it worse. "X Box" Kenny as you call him, in no way deserved that job, and he will never win big there. On the bright side, there is nowhere that has more speed, athletes, and hard nosed kids than PA though and one day they will right the ship.

North Shore won't play Lufkin this year, they play Southlake Carroll. The only reason they played Lufkin last year was because of Hurricane Ike and all the cancellations of games. The 08 North Shore/Lufkin game was a spare of the moment deal. I just got home from the game and it was pretty amazing. I got there at 6:30 and didn't have a seat. The Stadium holds around 10,000 and there were around 13,200 there. Great atmosphere! My impressions from both teams is that are legit. Both teams have tough games ahead for them, but I don't see either lossing. There can't be a defense in the state or nation for that matter as physical or fast as North Shore. As a whole they are better than they were last year, both teams. Several times I though Jeffrey and Young had the corner on tosses and zone play and North Shore just would swarm to the football. Young played more than Jeffrey because I think they wanted to run it at North Shore and not to the sideline. Young had some good carries for Katy and is a tough runner. Woods from North Shore is equally as tough to bring down. Both offenses struggled, but thats expected for the first game. Both defenses were lights out. Katy had 3 great scoring opportunities they missed out on in the first half (bad hold on FG, int, and fumble), and North Shore missed several great opportunities in the second half (penalties and fumbles). The thing that killed both teams more than anything else was special teams. Once they emphasize that a little more and get those units shored up neither team will lose. Both teams have dang good offenses, not great, but once they get it together both will be hard to stop and beat. I feel sorry for West Brook having to play both of these guys in a rebuilding year. Its gonna be real bad.

I think its great he plays football, shows he is a tough kid and a true athlete. Kids like him are a big reason why Nederland has always been competitive in football. True, he could have called it quits and played it safe for his future at UT, but injuries are a part of the game, and adversity is a part of life. He will recover and be fine come bball season. If the kids in Orange County were multiple sport athletes and not focused on a so-called "career" as a hs kid most of them would be much better in fball too.

With Huckaby as OC I figured they would be better on that side of the ball, but I heard the defense is not very good. Morrison came up through the ranks as a DC and was a pretty good one at that. DOn't now much about the new guy but Im afraid he's no Morrison and the "D" will have a drop off.

Memorial don't have the coaching to be successful. Tons of talent, but not the leadership.

I'm going with Nederland in a squeaker because I've heard WOS's line play has been aweful.
