  1. If your the #9 athlete in the nation, you probably have opportunities to play alot of places.  Why in the heck would you want to play for an upstart program who will take their lumps for the first few years you are there.  I know its nice to be close to home, but go play at Houston or A&M.  Somewhere you can make a name for yourself and play in front of more people than you did in HS.
  2. Westbrook is plenty good enough on offense to afford to  move some kids to the defensive side of the ball.  Offense at Westbrook hasn't been the problem in the Stump era, but to be able to win like they want to, their are gonna have to do something defensively.  They should be as good as they have been for a long while, but until they play defense like Katy's, North Shore's, or Lufkin's on a yearly basis they will never get out of the region.  Most of yall see more West Brook games than me, so maybe yall can confirm this.  It seems like WB plays well against spread teams (because WB is usually undersized, but fast), but the pro-style, and power teams usually give them the most trouble?  Just an observation. Regardless, they should be really tough to beat.  Find a consistent defense and watch out!!!
  3. This is a week late, but great season Bruins.  You surpassed my expectations, and I know I'm not the only one on the board that feels this way.  West Brook continued to get better and better every week, and earned my respect by having two huge wins late in the year.  The rest of the state has taken notice too.  Like I've said for the last several weeks, next year is gonna be scary.  I hope they can start off the year as hot as they finished this one.  If they can continue to shore up the defense the Golden Triangle may have the 5A champs right in out own back yard. On a side note, I don't think yall were the better team against CR.  They came out and played for 48 minutes, WB only for 24.  To be the better team you have to show up all game.  Congrats again though.

  5. Skipper, you have more excuses than a 3-year-old.  You can blame it on the turnovers, or WOS inability to stop Coldspring in the 1st half.  You can't dig a 3 TD deficit in one half and expect to make a comeback.  WOS struggled most of the season generating offense, and the defense was there like usual to keep them in games.  This is the one game all season where the defense slipped up a little, and the offense didn't have their backs.  You can't play one half of football in the playoffs and win.  Period.
  6. Barbers Hill is one of the highes paying school districts in Texas.  They also have a great  school system.  I'm willing to bet they will have to really good guys to choose from before its all said and done. They should throw a little money out there and try to get a guy like Andy Evans.
  7. West Brook is in a good position.  Everyone and their momma expects Hightower to be playing in the Alamodome in late December.  No one is giving West Brook a chance, mainly because their rough 3 game stretch earlier this season.  If this game was played in September or October I would have picked Hightower by 5 TD's, but West Brook has gotten much better and is peaking at the right time.  I know I've been pretty tough on them, but I try to call it like I see it.  I was right earlier in the year, but as the year has gone on, West Brook has proved me wrong, and gained my respect.  I still say they are a year away. I think WB will play them close, but won't have enough offense, mainly because this Hightower defense is suppose to be one of the best in the state. Hightower 24 West Brook 10
  8. With the coaches they have on staff, and the history they have with the program it will be a crime if they give it to an outsider.  They won't find anyone more loyal to WOS than Thompson or Foreman.  They give it to someone outside the program, and they will use it as a stepping stone, and resume builder. But.....  With my experience with the WOS admin, and school board, and from everything I read on here, they might not do the right thing.  Who knows?  Another option would be the Goodwin guy that left for his hometown Center.  He has turned around that place in one year, and has them in round 2.
  9. "Strong, competitive district," Only if you say so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. What does WOS pay?  I'm betting the list wouldn't be as long and impressive as you might think.  They have some things going against them.  3A school Academic problems Dwindling enrollment Screwed up school board Pay? Orange don't offer the same things as the Austin area, DFW, or Houston The list would maybe be long, but I don't think there would be lots of big time, proven coaches out there want this job.
  11. Hopefully the Bruins defense will show up and play their best game.  I'll give WB a fighting chance if they can hold Hightower to around 17-21 points.  I don't think WB will have lots of succes on offense, but if they can keep it close defensively, and possibly get a defensive TD, or special teams TD they have a good chance. WB has gotten better every week, and this will be their toughest test yet.  Win or lose, this game will serve them good for next year too.
  12. My lack of knowledge about PNG?  LOL! I guess I would sound more intelligent if I predicted them to win state, and say that everyone of their wins was against great teams.  I don't know how to say this any more clear, I hope that PNG wins.  I like PNG!  PNG, this year has exceeded everyone's expectations, and PNG is a very good team. With that said, I don't think they are the #5 team in the state.  Sorry, I have a different opinion.  11-0 speaks for itself, but the only team they have beaten worth mentioning is Central.  Thats not their fault, they have taken care of business week in, week out.  Thats what good teams do.  I think that Brenham will be the best team they have played, and their toughest match up to date.  Hopefully the NDN's will win, I'm just not predicting it.
  13. Skipper and Green Ice both bring up good points. If the WOS school system continues to spiral downward, and the test scores continually get worse, maybe they will lose enough kids and drop to 2A.  Yeah, thats what they need.  They couldn't get it done in 3A, so maybe 2A will be nicer to them.  Heck, if that don't work, by 2018, they can beat up on High Island, Evadale, Burkeville, Chester, and Sabine Pass.  I'm pretty sure they can win it all in 1A.
  14. If Brenham reads this board, and is as convinced as some of these PNG fans are that they are unbeatable, Brenham probably won't show up. Like I said, I like PNG, but some of the PNG fans on here are mental midgets, and pretty elementary when it comes to football.  Football is a game of matchups, and if you think that because Brenahm lost to Waller, Brenham has no chance against a team that has beat one quality opponent in OT, then give me some of what you are drinking. Brenham will be a lot like the Central team that gave PNG all it wanted and more.  They will be bigger, faster, and much more athletic than PNG.  That don't mean they will win, but it will mean that PNG will have its hands full, and will have to probably play their best game of the year to win.  I hope they do win, I like to follow them through the playoffs, but I think the NDN season will end in Aldine.
  15. No, not a PNG hater.  I like PNG, and I love the tradition!  I just think the jury is still out on them.  If you want to get down to it, I think they have only beaten 1 quality team, Central.  11-0 is a great accomplishment, but I just think that Brenham will be too much for them too handle.  I hope I am wrong.  Sorry I don't see things through purple and white glasses.  Like I said, not a hater, just not a full fledged believer, just yet.
  16. If Hooks stays around for another state championship, like some of you WOS homers suggest, he maybe coaching well into his 80's. From a 5A school and 4A school (9A's) 30 years ago, from a school that was once a 3-time state finalist in the 80's, from a team that was pretty good (dominate) as a 4A for 25 years, to today.  Yeah, I would classify that as pretty embarrassing.  WOS is a shell of what they once were.  If anyone can get on here and say that their 6 year run in 3A has been successful, then I challenge their knowledge.  Beating OF, BC, HJ, HF, and the likes don't classify you as a power.  Thats hardly the resume they built up beating the Beaumont schools, mid-county schools, and Houston schools for years.  If you were to go back 10 years and tell people in SE Texas that WOS would lose 2 first round playoff games to 3A schools they would have looked at you like you were retarded.  6 years in 3A, 2 first round loses, 1 semifinal birth, and no state championship games.  What a shame for a program that still wants to think of itself as an elite program, and power.
  17. Hooks will stay at WOS as long as he wants too.  With that being said, he hasn't done much in the past 6 years while in 3A.  I think once WOS dropped down, everyone would have thought that in 6 years they would have won at least 1 state championship.  Sometimes change is needed, and a new face is what is needed to take a program to the next level.  There is not any excuse for WOS losing in the first round twice, in 6 years in class 3A.  Pretty embarrassing for a once mighty program.
  18. I think this will be PNG's best test of the year (right up there with Central).  Brenham always has the athletes and the speed, but in years past they have made it a habit of losing to teams they, on paper, should be better than.  IMO, PNG will definetly have the x's and o's advantage with the coaching staffs, but I think this is the week PNG goes down. I hope I'm wrong, but I think PNG is the worst 11-0 team in the state, if there is such a thing.
  19. I thought WOS was a pass happy team all year long, and just recently started running the ball effectively against sorry teams.  Correct me if I'm wrong.
  20. I'm beating that the Muleshoe loss will be the biggest upset of round 1 across the state.
  21. Please!  What excuses? Coldspring is 2nd in their district too, and you act like they are the favorites.  Its really no surprise to me, but to the WOS fans it will be a dagger to the heart.  I've said since early in the season that WOS is a shell of what they once were.  Way overrated.
