1.
nEWS fLASH: Jack Yates Senior High will continue to play hard-nose basketball, no matter who walks onto the floor.
I guess somehow you are comparing "hard-nosed", to classless and lack of respect.  Heck of a comparasion and way to coach. This would be like Southlake Carroll playing Hardin Jefferson in football, being up 56-0 at the half, then come out the 2nd half and throw hail mary's to run up the score.  Then they could defend it by calling it "their style of play," and that they were "only trying to set the scoring record."  Sounds pretty chicken sh!t don't it.  So does this Yates coach and his strategy.
2. For a few years  college basketball has been dominated by freshmen.  Most of Lamar's roster is young, very few seniors.  Most of Yates' roster is 18-year-old kids, that will be in college, competing against the Lamar guys next year.  Like Lamar, most of Yates' kids aren't highly recruited, but I'd be willing to bet most of the Yates kids going to college have better offers than a Lamar offer.  Lamar isn't a good college program, they are decent in the grand scheme of things, no matter how much influence they place on basketball.  Yates is the best hs program in the country, and that includes all the boarding and prep schools like Oak Hill, Findlay Prep and all the New Jersey privates that have better talent than Lamar.  I don't know if Yates' would win, but I bet it would be within 10 either way, and I don't think I would bet on Lamar for anything basketball related.
3.

Oh, and all of this talk about these kids trying to get scholarships and yada, yada, yada. COME ON MAN! Tell me ONE college scout who would take anything positive from a players performance in a game like this. JUST ONE! Are you seriouly going to say that a scout would be impressed that a potential recruit hit 40 in a game like this? NO WAY! Coaches and scouts want to see how you perform against the BEST! So quit acting like this game was going to somehow impact any players ability to get a scholarship. From what I've read, the Yates players earned all the respect they needed in the high level tournaments they won. Just step on the brakes when necessary and win with CLASS!
So I guess we should tell our kids to not try so hard in district academic competitions because one school isn't as good as the other. Why take AP classes? Fit in with regular students, etc, etc...............Are you classless because a student prepared and scored very high on the SAT and others weren't as prepared?
Quite possibly one of the most clueless posts I have ever seen.  Its not about what the kids did, they can only do what the coach tells them to do.  This falls on the coach and his lack of class, respect, and sportsmanship.  I've seen numerous articles on rivals, and out of the Houston Chronicle, and this man is all about himself, like most NBA players.  You can coach a game, and have your kids play full speed without pressing, trapping and running the court every minute.
4.
All of you who cry for class in 3rd ward are feminine @best and never won at anything @worst.  I want to see the outrage the next time a suburban school runs up the score in any sport.  All I'll hear probably is crickets unless your wives or mothers allow y'all to speak on the issue.... Bunch of Broads......
What a post!  Class is what the 3rd ward ghetto needs most, is it not?  I like how you defend them by saying their actions are o.k. because they are inner city kids and basketball is obviously all they have.  Truely a sad, ignorant, woe-is-me type post.  Something I would expect from a Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, or Black Panther race pimp.
5. That would be like a spread offense beating someone 70-0 in the 3rd quarter and still thorwing the ball every play.  If they threw 3 fade routes in a row every series their chances of scoring and running up the score even more would be much greater.  When is enough enough?  You can still win, make a point about how great you are, still let the kids play hard without trying to embarass a team that is outmanned.  Poor excuse for class and sportsmanship.
6. Truly a sad statement, trying the defend the inner city ghetto.  I don't think anyone is attacking the score because it was an inner city school, and for you to bring it up shows the mentality of the inner city.  As long as you use that in your arguement you will always be right, kind-of-thing.  I guess anyone that thinks Coach Wise is classless, and the Yates program is classless is racist, because after all they are the ghetto, and the ghetto's class can't be questioned. You can defend them and feel sorry for them if you want, I think its a joke.
7.
Poppabear, welcome to the world of inner city basketball....They do the same in Dallas. Coach Greg Wise is a good guy...He told every coach on the schedule this year - No offense but we want to break the all-time scoring record....Well, they are well on their way. Has nothing to do with class. These are how these kids play basketball. baseline to baseline from start to finish.
I guess because its inner city it makes it right?  Does the inner city have any class?  By the looks of the Yates coach, I guess not.  That would be like Kirbyville or Newton scoring 100 on Shelbyville or San Augustine if football.  You can still play the game, let your kids play hard, and prevent embarassing the other team, that is obviously outmanned and outmatched before they step on the field or court.  By this clown pressing, trapping and running full speed the whole game shows he is a self promoting jacka$$ that wants to build himself up, and beef his resume up by making others look bad.  You don't continue to throw fade routes, and run play action when the score is 63-0.  Anyone that defens that has problems.
8. I don't follow hs basketball much, but this Wise, from Houston Yates seems to be a self promoter.  Every article I've seen from this year, he tries to build himself up, and try to make himself look like a Pat Riley by embarassing other teams.  Seems to be all about him, and how bad he can beat teams that would be lucky to compete in 2A.  Thats one of the main reasons I don't like basketball. Someone that saw them at the state tourney last year told me that he likes to sport red, and yellow suits when he coaches, typical crap from people like him.  Reminds me of one of Boutte's assistants years back, I think it was John Clayton.  He tried to dress like he was going to church, or some NAACP funtion.
9. Has a list of applicants been released yet?  I know Jim Phillips was trying to get out of Greenville last year, he even applied for the Orangefield opening.  For some reason Orangefield wasn't interested.  Phillips has a very good track record, and would be a great fit for a school like Barbers Hill.
10. I had a 505 point yatzee game last weekend at the deer lease.  Definetly my favorite game of the year.
11. If they play with the hunger and edge they played with this year, next year, they will be tough to beat and will earn their ranking late into the season.  Don't forget that they were underdogs much of the year, and no one expected them to beat PAM, GPNS, and Hightower.  Next year they will be the favorites. Look at the team two years ago.  All the talent in the world, but no leadership and tenacity.
12. spread beats the I-Form O again Short, selective memory.  Trintiy beat Westlake only hours before.
13. 2003 North Shore 2001 Evangel 2005 Longview
14. that shows you a sign of a dominant program where there are haters everywhere you turn.  Katy will be back playing into December next year, and probably the title game.  Out of their 2 freshman teams, sophmore team, JV, and Varsity, there was only two losses in the whole program.  Both by the varsity.  Katy is the premier program in the state if not the nation.
15. Lamar would't even offer the Musgrove kid last year from Kirbyville.  He started at receiver for 3 years in HS and was an all-state pick last year.  He was also faster than what Huckaby is.  The best Musgrove could do was a walk-on, I believe that will be the road Huckaby will take if he wants it.  Like others have said, baseball maybe his ticket for a scholarship.
16. Again, comparing OF's offense to the Army, Navy, GA Tech offense is apples and oranges.  They maybe more like them than some teams that run the shotgun, but what OF does is nothing like what Army, Navy and the likes run.
17. Nope, no agenda against the OF kids.  They are some of the toughest, hardest working, overachieving kids in the area.  Kind of like them and the school district, honestly. The question was is he going to play college ball.  I said no.  He is a good hs player, with very little to no college potential.  He could always go the NAIA route, like ETBU, or Louisiana College, they take anyone who can afford the high tuition.  Is there anything wrong with what I have said?
18. I had heard from a good source in Kirbyville that Eylau was more than likely going to play K-ville next year at a nuetral site.  I guess they changed their mind when they noticed Kirbyville has 16 starters coming back.  It also don't surprise me Arp don't want to play, they should be a little down from what they've had the last two years. The way it stands now, thats a tough schedule.  We also don't know yet how many other teams will be in their new district.  They may not need to find any more teams.  If they do though, I bet they will have to travel a little to find any takers.
19. He was a good high school player, not college material!
20. IDK, I thought Georgia Tech and Navy's offense was the double slot, or flexbone.  Not alot of similarities to the ol' slot-T other than they both have the term "slot" in the offense. GA Tech and Navy's offense also spreads out opposing defenses, where OF's offense keeps everyone 5 yards from the QB.  GA Tech and Navy's offense also is a triple option attack, much different than the "card dealing" the OF QB does with his back to the LOS after the snap. Either way, the kid had a great year and is a good HS football player, but college ball isn't on his horizon.
21. Did you ever see the kid throw a pass?  If you did you would know he's not a QB.  I've also never seen a college at any level run the wing-T or slot-T.
22. Stump aint going anywhere.  He could have left last year and wanted to stay.  I also doubt Faircloth would leave PNG for WB.  PNG is a better job in lots of ways.
23. If WB played that schedule they could lay claim to the toughest 5 game stretch in the nation.  Wishful thinking though.  It won't happen.  The SUP. wouldn't let it happen.
24. Speaking of double headers, I would like to see PNG play Longview, and Nederland play Marshall or Texas High on a Saturday in Nacodoches. I would like to see WB drop Ozen and pick up Cinco Ranch, Houston Lamar, one of the Klein schools, or Lufkin.  They would get much more out of it than thrashing Ozen, all for the sake of Beaumont. I've also heard K-ville has had a hard time fielding a predistrict schedule with their 2A status and recent success.  Many of the local 3A teams have already turned them down, and the only takers so far for next year is WOS and possibly Texarkana Libery Eylau.  Alvarez now knows what it feels like to be Barbay and Hooks trying to put together a schedule.
25. JR playing nose guard won't fix their defensive woes!!!!!!!!! He's a good QB, but would be a even better reciever IMO.
