  9. Havent seen LCM play so its hard to say but one thing is for sure, the Cougars are tenacious and know how to win.  I will stick with them in a hard fought series.  Tyler Davenport is a beast on the mound and Wesley Jones can shut down anyone in relief.  Hunter Hearn and Trey Hagan are hard to keep quiet at the top of the line-up.  Eric Robinso can get you with his bat and his arm.  Don't forget the bottom of the line-up is consistent too with Jacob McGill and Chase Wells to name a couple of bats.
  10. Today is the day fans can flock to Huffman, TX to watch some of the best track and field athletes in the area at the Huffman Falcon Relays.  Formerly known as the Lake Houston Relays, this annual event attracts more teams than can be accommodated.  Three years ago, the relays got a new home with the building of a new sports complex on the grounds of Huffman-Hargrave High School.  Moving from Jack Spence Stadium into a 14.5 million dollar complex elevated the event to a whole new level of excitement.  The biggest attraction to this track meet are the facilities but beyond that there is much more that has gone into making this a heralded and attractive event. For any athlete and coach, the type and condition of the facilities whether at home or away is a key concern.  Because of the support of the local community, Huffman has alleviated that concern.  All events at the Huffman Relays are now centrally located and inside the stadium with the exception of the discus throw.  One of the most exciting things for an athlete is to see yourself on the big screen.  With the new complex, this is now a reality thanks in large part to the hard work of Julie Deen and her high school video class which is responsible for live streaming on the video board. Senior Ryan Young will be shooting the Huffman Falcon Relays.  He has also been the man behind the camera at Falcon football games.  In addition to pushing film to the video board, the crew can add updates, results, pictures, and more. “Our video team will use the same equipment used at a professional sporting event creating a realistic experience for them as well.” said Mrs. Deen. Not only will the athletes be running in real time but so will the film crew. Another key to the facility is the ample parking not just for school busses but for fans as well.  No longer do fans and busses have to race for space.  Coaches enjoy coming to events that are well organized.  Head Coach Jason Taylor is the man who has the answers.  The attention to detail from beginning to end and is a major reason, Huffman finds itself turning away teams year after year.  Organization makes for a well-respected event.  Not only do coaches help in the hospitality rooms but non-sports related teachers volunteer to hand out ribbons, tally points, and work behind the scenes to make this a first rate event.  “Coach Taylor is the glue that keeps everything together and running smoothly.” says Athletic Director Mike McEachern. No high school sporting event would be complete without food but not just any food.  Huffman “hospitality” has built a reputation all its own.  Unlike many places, you will find nothing store bought, everything is made from scratch. Led by Debbie Taylor and Jennifer Henton, the spread has become legendary.  Visiting coaches have been known to take pictures of the delectable delights and email to friends and fellow coaches. Finally without the athletes, there would not be an annual Huffman Falcon Relays.  This year’s edition features teams from Porter, Dayton, Anahuac, Coldspring, Liberty, Tarkington, Cleveland, Splendora, and Huffman.  Fans who attend the event will be treated to some incredible athletes.  From Huffman alone fans will see Junior Maegan Booth in the Triple and Long Jump (State Qualifier and School Record Holder in Triple Jump), Junior Bailey Logsdon in the Long Jump and 100M Hurdles (School Record Holder in 100M Hurdles), Junior Ana Gonzales in the 400 meter (School Record Holder in 400M), Sophomore Senneca Williams in the Shot Put (School Record Holder in the Shot Put), Senior Taeler Marshall in the 1600 and 3200 (State Qualifier and School Record Holder in the 3200), Sophomore Darian Gray in 400 meter, and Senior Jose Castro in the 1600 meter run.  Dayton may bring a big challenge to the event.  Seniors Hector Solano and Ryan Owens will compete for the 800 meter title.  Sophomore Adam Christine is a force in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Watch out for the Dayton sprint crews are led by Solano, Owens, and a combination of Layne Bethea, Ryan McBride and Donovan Jackson. Junior Matthew Oubre (the school record holder in the shot put and discus) leads the field events.  The girls’ team features Bria Emanuel in the shot put and discus.  Other competitors include senior Selenia Lopez, junior Josselin Chavez and freshmen Shelby Corley in the distance races while senior Shi’kara Scott will anchor the 800 meter squad and the 4X400 relay team.  Watch out for junior Quanesha Mitchell, sophomores Alexis Kimball, Brandy David, Shay Grant, Brittany Pruitt, Destiny Porche and freshman Lexi Briggs representing the sprint and jump teams. Other notable athletes are Liberty’s distance runner Jonathan Lopez,  sprinter Abina Kelley, Cleveland high jumper Julius Buckley, Tarkington’s freshmen distance runner Breanna Jordan, and Anahuac’s junior distance runner Riley Wilson. The Huffman Falcon Relays will begin at 3:30p.m. with the field events.  The 3200 meter run takes place at 4:30p.m. with the other running events scheduled to begin at approximately 5:45p.m.
  11. It may have been a little too close for comfort for the Crosby Cougars but it certainly mad for an exciting finish as the Dayton Broncos cut a 14 point deficit to three with 2:05 left on the game clock before falling 65-53. Top Players Jacarious Keener -Dayton - 22 points, 5 assists TJ Stewart - Crosby - 21 points, 3 steals Keldrick Williams - Crosby - 20 points, 6 rebounds Gamal Fowler - Dayton  - 18 points, 4 rebounds, 9 steals Raelon Singleton - Crosby 12 points, 14 rebounds Crosby can finsih with a perfect in District 19-4A play with a win over Barbers Hill on February 14th.  Dayton can clinch the final playoff spot with a win.
  12. The Dayton Broncos face a do or die situation Friday night against Crosby.  Crosby blew open a close game at halftime in their last meeting on January 17th to win going away 61-49.  Will they save your season?  What must they do to win?
  13. A little military service will make you appreciate the meaning of the National Anthem and what it represents. It bothers me more that people talk and goof around during the NA but most reflect what their parents do and if their parentsdon't correct them, it will eventually become meaningless.  How many kids know the sacrifice of what happened in Vietnam?  They become less and less because Veterans Day and Memorial Day are treated like any other holiday and some places treat them like another day of the week.  in our scool system the option is there to be in school on those holidays but not MLK Day.  Something is wrong with that picture.
