rounder17 got a reaction from AthleticSupporter - Jock in Vidor at Nederland/#4 seed game/Vidor wins 10-2!
That sucks, and should never determine if a team makes the playoffs or not.

I believe Logan Bryant.
Looks like Silsbee doesn't want to win the district, and may be a smart move considering the teams you dodge early in the playoffs.

rounder17 got a reaction from HOTROD309 in GTSA / Banditos Merger
It's too bad that colleges don't recruit, and scouts don't draft players based on the summer jersey they wear, or y'all would be in business. Unfortunately that all comes down to tools. There's only 1 Bandito organization that matters, and that the owner cares about, and that's the one in Tomball. Not the Dallas Banditos, or the Austin Banditos, or the South Texas Banditos, or the MVP Banditos, or the Southeast Texas Banditos, but he sure does love that money y'all give him to use his name. By the way, did you know that the Banditos claim that MLB player Paul Goldschmidt played for them, when in fact he has never played a single pitch for them? I wonder how many others he claims, that never played for him, or played 1 tournament with them? Anything to throw out big numbers right?

How many of these kids playing select pick up a ball twice a week to throw while at practice, and every other weekend to play? Then don't pick up a ball the rest of the days. That's most likely playing catch 10 times in 30 days, and 2 times a month pitching. That's no way to keep an arm in shape, and on top of that, how many of them actually do arm care to help protect their arms? There's more to blame than throwing too many pitches in an outing in my opinion.....and I definitely don't condone over throwing a kid just to win a game.

Was just stating that was an exaggeration of the facts. As far as the rest, I have heard it all. Heck even from some of the parents who's kids are playing next to mine. Couple of points... first, nothing about select baseball that takes away from that sense of community pride. Second, youth sports whether you are talking soccer, cheerleading, gymnastics, baseball, football,... is big business. Even colleges are in on the gig. I get two or three emails a week from colleges wanting my son to come to their prospect camp. Guess what... they all cost money. Then there is the recruiting services, talk about a racket. Do these select ball coaches and teams get a player more exposure.... absolutely. Do they make calls on behalf of your kid... absolutely. Would some of these kids get scholarships anyway... absolutely. So what does that all mean nothing... absolutely nothing other than it is each parents personal decision to do what they think is best for their kid. But to just blindly blame select baseball for causing all the repetitive motion injuries and everything else that is wrong with the sport, is just flat out wrong.

Ok .. Then I'm pointing the finger at the parents .. Is that better ?
And one question to all the people on here talking about how bad
select ball is .. Do you even a kid that plays baseball ? And where at ?

We have played select ball our whole lives and never have we had an issue with a coach overthrowing a kid. You cant put the blame on just "Select/ summerball" or even coaches. If your going to blame someone. Blame the parents because their the DUMB A$$E$ that let their kid throw everyday. People need to stop pointing the finger at Summer ball and coaches and start blaming themselves for not speaking up. Anyway rant over... back to the subject. Should there be a pitch count in HS.. YES 100 pitches total once a week. I've seen some kids throw 120+ pitches lately and that's where kids get hurt.

I have agreed with that from the beginning. Just was making the point that he was not representing the facts 100%, and that college players play more than 5 1/2 months, much more. But to point the finger at select ball and say that is the problem is like point the finger at guns and say that the have to be banned because they kill people. People pull the trigger, just like parents (people) have to decide what is right for their son or daughter (how much down time do they need). To blame just select baseball is a short sided generalization.

Try to teach kids about commitment and accountability and some parents and grandparents can't handle it. Support the coaches decisions whether you agree with it or not. They are just doing what should have been taught at a younger age. Great examples of a few things were shown tonight. What a good coach should do, and what grown adults should not. Stay classy L-Town, stay classy.

They made a choice to play in a volleyball game for seniors at school today. Coach told them not to play cuz he didn't want them to get hurt and hurt the baseball team. He's the coach and it is his rules. Just like the real world. Have to do what the boss says or suffer the consequences.

It's 4 games into district, and some people are acting like they have already won the dc on different threads. Gotta long way to go.
