1. I think that game they won was this morning. Game 2 will be on Saturday. Here is a link to story with the info: [Hidden Content]
2. Well said....All you have to look at is the geography...We are kind of in a corner of Texas. Look at all of the playoff games that Lufkin gets. Almost every weekend Angelina, Morris Frank, Central Pollock, and Huntington have been used for playoff series. Being in a neutral location means lots more playoff games in the area. Most years Hudson also hosts its fair share as well.
3. Any word on a field for today. Saw on another site that Morris Frank in Lufkin was out to do the rain yesterday. Could it turn into a one gamer tomorrow?
4. Good point, but in high school a starter can be substituted for once during a game and reenter as long as it is in the same spot in the batting order. If he is removed again, he is done that for that game.
5. Did not see the play, but I would not reference the balk rule from the mlb rule book. High School plays by NFHS rules which I know have some difference...especially when it comes to Balks. the best example is that a balk in HS ball is an immediate dead ball and whatever happens after the balk is called is irrelevant. In MLB the play continues and the offensive team is allowed to take the result of the play or the balk. It happened in a Rangers game earlier this season. C.J. Wilson balked, but continued his delivery and the batter got a hit. The opposing manager...cannot remember who it was, choose the hit instead of the Balk. In HS the continuation of the pitch and the hit would be wiped out. Ball would have been dead immediately and the next pitch would occur with the same count as prior to the balk. I know that difference does not help with yesterday's balk, but without seeing it is hard to know why the umpire called the balk.
6. Looks like Lamar won big tonight...so that means they will be playing in a regional somewhere next weekend. With Orangfield wining early today it is a sure thing that the Regional Final in 3a will be in our area. I guess Nederland is probably the best option...or if Jasper wins it might be a Woodville, Nederland neutral site matchup
7. I know the call was unpopular, but did the umps get it right.
8. Well, it seem if the same rules remain, that the coaches from Lamar have to be present, it would depend if they win or lose tonight. If they win, they would be in an NCAA regional somewhere...i.e. the coaches would not be available to manage the field for a playoff series. I guess we have to see if Lamar wins tonight...and wait and see if BC and Orangefield can finish off thier series. I bit Robinson and Jasper will not go quietly. I bet both of the series go to a third game...gonna be late tonight before we know.
9. There is a thread dedicated to score updates for this series. You might move your updates there. Thanks for the updates
10. Correct, the park is on the left side of the road outside Woodville if you are heading to Livingston. The High School field is part of the Little League (actually Pony League now) complex. The HS field is the fartherst field on the back left of the complex. You park in the large field outside of the complex and walk in. Great place to play, but like most HS fields, there will not be enough seating to hold a big HS playoff game like this. I would get there early.
11. Not really any gates in woodville. It is pretty easy to get access to the field. I hope nobody gets their and moves chairs. Kind of like calling shotgun too early.
12. It is very common for a host site to be the one responsible for paying umpires in the playoffs. It all depends on how the using of a field is setup. I am currently waiting on a check from lufkin isd for playoff games played at lufkin involving two non lufkin teams
13.
Does anybody have a address to the field to load into GPS?
Woodville Hennigan Little League Park 1357 Highway 190 W, Woodville, TX(409) 331-9381 Nederland's field is at the High school
14. The question remains, has he pitched this season? I am unaware of pitching any this season or last season.
15. Jasper has always played playoff games in Woodville since Mixon has been the coach. Carthage beat them in a 1-gamer last year and they played there against Hudson last weekend. Game three of the Crockett series would have been at Woodville but Jasper swept. Jasper played in the WOS, Vidor, and Jasper tourneys this season. The field for the Woodville tournament was pretty weak and even had one team quit after getting hammered pretty hard. Had to reschedule alot of the weekend because of it. Jasper played in the Woodville tournament in 2009
16. Dont be suprised if Ty parker starts the 3rd game if needed his fast ball is low 90's and has a nasty breaking stuff...
Has he pitched this year?
17. If there are 3000 people there Woodville cannot hold it. But, besides Lamar no one can. Woodville's seating capacity is probably similar to a lot of the 4A schools in the area.
18. If they are looking for two Neutral sites, it seems that Jasper generally uses Woodville. Great playing surface and plenty of room for fans both in the bleachers and down the lines. With the field sitting down low, the site lines are great. BC could always use Vidor or LCM as neutral site host games. Not sure how many each place holds, but they are both good fields...might see a lot bombs hit if LCM is used.
