1. I know they won in 2007. Not sure of other wins, but they have been to the state tournament several times.
2. Little League Teams West End (Beaumont) North End (Beaumont) Silsbee Kountze Lumberton Jasper Buna Kirbyville (played with Jasper this Year) Brookeland (Player with Jasper this Year) Amelia Spindeltop I think you got the rest
3. I am sure that there would be a lot of people lining up against going to Wood. The bat manufacturers for one, the college coaches (lots of money comes their way from the bat companies), and the NFHS....safety issues.
4. I like the rule change, but I am not sure how easy it will be to enforce. In recent years, umpires have had to look for the BESR sticker or marking somewhere on the bat. For the 2012 season, the NHFS has said that the bats must meet the BBCOR standard. This was a welcome change for us umpires because we have been told that the BBCOR emblem on the bat will look and be located the same from manufacturer to manufacturer. In theory, we will not be required to hunt all over the bat looking for the emblem as we have with the BESR emblem. This new change being enacted for the 2011 season will be a different animal. I am guessing that the NFHS will have a list of approved bats and unapproved bats for the upcoming season. Might have to laminate a little card and carry it in my pocket to help with the pre-game bat checks. Going to add a little difficulty to pre-game, but I am all for safety.
5. I agree that umpires need evaluation as well as coaches. Being evaluated only helps you get better. The main problem in our part of the state is that due to parent and coach abuse there is a severe umpire shortage. The district has a policy of not letting local umpires call for there own teams. Jasper umpires cannot call a jasper game...west end umpires cannot call a west end game. Since the umpires are volunteers, they do not get paid and they also drive to the games they call on their own dime. They are true volunteers. Many call High School games during the season, but some are just dads that umpire Little League games. Training is sometimes not great as well. It is up to each umpire to make sure that he knows the rules and knows how to enforce them. At the game is question, the umpires were some of the best in our area. The plate umpire is an umpire trainer who has umpired Little League Baseball and Softball for many years. He will actually be calling in the Little League Softball World Series this year. Some umpires might have a vendetta, but I cannot speak for them. Most umpires do it for the love of the game and really do not care who wins. As arbiters of the game, the position of umpire is one that demands respect and his or her judgment is law during a game. Have you watched the World Cup and seen how many mistakes those professionals make? The case in question in Jasper was one where two umpires made conflicting calls. They made things right in the best way that they could after the call. Sometimes it is hard to make things right in a way that make both teams 100% happy. Once again, regardless of the call...the coach was wrong for what he did and his actions that followed his initial action. That is the point of all of this. The coach, since he was the assistant should have never argued...if he would have done what his position on the team called him to do and let the head coach take care of his own business none of this would have happened
6.

I was an eye witness to the events in Jasper and Beaumont, I don't believe there is another side.
Wow what game were you at?  Even the crowed was cheering for the coach!
So the crowd is now the litmus test for when something is right and wrong. That is kind of scary.
7. It is amazing what youth sports has come to. Any attitude is OK as long as the qualifier is attached "he is doing it for the kids" Rules are in place for a reason...to be followed. This is a small example of a bigger problem in society. Authority is something that children and teenagers do not respect anymore. When a figure in their life shows that he can get ahead by having no respect for authority, it encourages them to do the same. If he truly is doing this for the kids, he would remember that his presence at the game is more important than his questioning of calls and total disregard for the rules. Rules are put in place for a reason. He chooses to be a part of an organization that falls under the Little League International umbrella. Therefore he should follow the rules and restrictions placed upon him by that organization and its officials...including local representatives. Yes, he is a volunteer coach, but he was arguing with volunteer umpires that traveled a good distance to umpire a game. They also volunteer their time for the good of the kids...and they get nothing win or lose. They do the best job that they possibly can. Umpires make mistakes just like players and coaches do. When was the last time you heard an umpire yell at a coach for leaving a pitcher in too long...or calling for a steal that did not work? When volunteers are used, mistakes will be made all around. This coach as well as everyone else involved needs to learn to respect the game and not blow little things out of proportion.
8.

He is a GREAT Coach!!!!! The boys that play for him LOVE & RESPECT him!!!!!He has helped take Jasper baseball 2 another level!!!!! Great job Coach!!!!!!!!
this is even more of a reason that he should act appropriately in public and obey little league rules. he should be setting an example for the kids on the team.
my point exactly
9. So what you are saying is that his behavior was appropriate and should be emulated by the players that play for him and the coaches that he coaches against. No one is saying anything about his coaching ability. It is the behavior that is being called into question. Evidently Little League International had a problem with what he did. It is one thing to get ejected from a game, but it shows malice when you hang around after an ejection and then show up at game you are not supposed to be at and ignore the warnings of the person that is in charge of Little League in District 12.
10. As far as I know, both the Jasper coach and the Nederland coach failed to submit any players for the games. The guys that organize the game are thinking of ways to make sure more kids can get in the games. Maybe making the coaches submit names earlier in the season. It is hard with all of the kids that play select ball in the summer. Many that were in the games were limited on pitches due to having to pitch in games the coming weekend.
11. He is a good guy, but if you ever watch one of his games, he seems to have a problem with authority and following the rules. He may well have the kids best interest at heart, but it often comes across as him having his best interest at heart.
12. He was an assistant coach. In Little League as in most other forms of baseball the only one allowed to argue is the head coach.
13. Agreed. I am glad Little League got this one right. Coaches need to remember that they are role models and are supposed to be positive examples for their players
14. I am not sure when the scholarships are given out, but I know that they have a meeting in January when everyone is recognized. It is typically the first meeting of the new season for the Umpires.
15. There are a couple of opportunities to see some great baseball at Vincent-Beck this week. Wednesday 4:30pm- 1A-3A Underclassmen 7:30pm- 1A-3A Upperclassmen Thursday 4:30pm- 4A-5A Underclassmen 7:30pm- 4A-5A Upperclassmen The players on each of the teams are nominated by the coaches. The players represent the teams that the TASO Beaumont Baseball Chapter Umpires during the season. I do not have rosters or any other details. All of the money raised goes towards scholarships that the chapter presents on a yearly basis to baseball players in the area.
16. Broken Nose...he did not play Saturday night, be coached first base for his team. West End won and will now face Jasper for the Championship.
17. Silsbee beat Kountze and will play Buna on Friday. The winner of that game will play West End on Saturday night. The winner or the Buna v. Silsbee game will be the host on Saturday.
18. Got this from JISD today for anyone that is interested. Come out and support the State Bound Jasper Bulldog Baseball Team Join in the Spirited Send Off Tuesday Morning – June 8th The team will be leaving the ballpark at 8:00 am. Taking a right out of the ballpark on 96 and then turning left on Highway 190. Show your support by hanging signs along the road side – Stand out and cheer them on as they pass – Keep them in your prayers for a safe trip!
19. I am all for Jasper winning, but has anyone actually seen Giddings play, or are these just gueses. Everyone predicted that BC would beat Jasper, then everyone predicted that Orangefield would beat Jasper...maybe we should pick against them. They seem to like the underdog role. Giddings has only given up 4-or 5 runs in the playoffs. There two best pitchers are studs, plus they were in Austin last year as well. I am hoping for a Dawg win....I think if they can get thru the semis, that the finals might be an easier game.
20. Where's your info coming from WOS? Still nothing on the UIL site and it has the two semis starting at 4 and 7.
21. It really does not matter who Jasper plays, it will be a tough game. Giddings and PG have not given up hardly any runs in the playoffs. Like Jasper, most of Lubbocks losses have been to 4a-5a teams. All four teams are good. The hardest game to win will probably be the one on Wednesday. Going up against someone else's #1 is always hard. As long as Sowell can locate the fastball and has the big curve working, Jasper should be able to play with anyone.
22. I thought it was seeded by winning %. 1 plays 4 and 2 plays 3. I think jasper should be 2 or 3 if that indeed is true. This was according to 3abaseball.com
