  1. Didn’t mean that any of it is a knock. For the longest they were one of the smaller schools in 4A and even after realignment. Their strategy was to load defense since there wasn’t a ton of guys to spread around. what I could definitely agree with is that the coaches stayed with some QBs because of their seniority. anyway....good discussion. Just my thoughts.
  2. Under Hooks, that makes some sense. It was a different era of football. Running game and defense.
  3. Or 3 in a row and another guy gets there for #4. There were a couple of guys ahead of Jack that WOS was ready to ride with that were talented. Yes, schools are putting more emphasis on it now as you allude to. Because football overall is becoming very “offense first”.
  4. I’m sure coaches throughout the years of WOS realize the importance of the QB. Not everyone has the talent pool and resources of an Austin Westlake.
  5. Let me know when this “runaway” happens. It’s pretty dang close
  6. I bet stepping down 32” and walking to the swampy parking lot was even harder heading after taking one of y’all’s regular beatings at that stadium.
  7. Silsbee’s biggest problem in the past has been defense. And WOS hired their former DC. Idk
  8. Hopefully he will do some play by play on SETX or Texanlive. Gary Stelly is one of the best. I recall listening to games all the way back to 1988 (I’m sure there are some earlier). When I couldn’t make a game, Gary was the next best thing! I wish him and the KOGT folks nothing but the best. I will miss my daily visits to KOGT.COM My fondest memory will be listening to the 2000 WOS VS CAL ALLEN game on replay. Stelly was mucho annoyed by the constant “go, go, go” by the Cal Allen cheerleaders. His call of the game winning score still sticks with me.
  9. Any know the number of penalties and yardage for each team?
  10. Being a better second half team must be a new thing. It certainly wasn’t there in the first matchup with WOS.
  11. Orange has two schools as well so comparing silsbee town size to Orange is a little skewed.
  12. No sir. He was the in the middle of the 80’s runs. J Feathers and Kenton James were QBs they beat La Marque 10-6 in 2000
  13. Yeah that was something. Cole transfers and the guy behind him has some unfortunate circumstances.....and Jack is suddenly the starter. I recall calling my game buddies that couldn’t make the game that night and telling them “I think we are going to be ok. There is something about him...he has guts for sure”. His money should be no good at any restaurant in Orange!! Lol
  14. There has been a lot of talk about the X’s and O’s, which team has gotten better, who made adjustments since the last meeting etc. Some are good points. One thing that I feel certain is in the WOS corner is conditioning. If the game is close late in the 3rd....advantage WOS.
  15. I tried to reply earlier but it didn’t happen. I don’t think there is a clear cut benefit to either team. Even with a passing team the DB can slip and leave the WR open. It does add an element of luck or it wouldn’t be talked about so much with NFL games where the money (betting) matters. I do think the better team won in the playoffs in 2018 and I do feel WOS got a little lucky in the regular season in 2018. I feel WOS is slightly the better team this year. For both teams sake, I hope the weather doesn’t chime in.
  16. Would they trade EVERY SINGLE regular season wins for the playoff wins? No. That would mean different playoff seeding and in some instances, that particular WOS team wasn’t that good.
  17. Well, that is due to a couple of things. Recently, Silsbee was in a different classification. Other than that....they didn’t make it far enough for the teams to meet up. So thus far 1998 and 2018 are the claim to fame.
  18. Yes sir....Smaller school problems. At least these schools are fortunate enough to have the athletes
  19. I think he would be utilized more if he weren’t such a big piece of the defense.
