Sure enough, they did. Hey, it simply works that way. Athletes realize their seasons are finished if they don’t perform. They want those medals and they want to extend their season. First, we congratulate a few team champions. Coach Kendrick Johnson (standing far left in the above photo) guided West Brook to an impressive team title in 19-5A at Mont Belvieu. The Bruins had 179 points – 30 points more than runner-up Barbers Hill. The host school’s Lady Eagles, under coach Stacy Tucker, captured the girls team honors. Little Cypress-Mauriceville’s tracksters were not in such a sharing mood in the 18-4A meet at West Orange-Stark. Becca Peveto’s girls and Kurt Zihlman’s boys wanted to bring home all the team honors and they did. The Bears barely outdistanced Lumberton by two points while the Lady Bears more than doubled their closest competition coming from Bridge City. The Orangefield Lady Bobcats displayed plenty of dominance at the 22-3A meet in Anahuac. Girls coach Brittney Stevens took home the team title. Coach Fred Gilbert watched his Hardin Hornets claim the honors in the boys division. Individual performances enabled Golden Triangle-area athletes to improve our area-best season numbers in 10 boys and 6 girls events during the district championships. West Brook junior D’Andre Carter led the area in both the boys long and triple jump events. Carter had produced the first 44-0 long jump before the 19-5A meet but he cleared 44-4 at Mont Belvieu. Then there’s another junior who delivers steady late-season progress. And that would delight Nederland girls coach Dale Dial. Her name is Kiley Havard, and what a hard worker she must be. Kiley owned the area’s fastest time in the 100-meter hurdles at 15.34 by the end of March. When the calendar turned to April, Havard just turned it up a notch. She recorded a 15.12 on April 2 at LC-M’s Battlin’ Bear Relays. Her season-best time lowered to 14.57 last week at district. When it comes to a consistent champion, LC-M’s senior pole vaulter Janet Le (pictured here) delivers meet after meet. Her best had been 10-6 before district. Janet equaled that mark last Monday at West Orange. Year-in and year-out, Memorial’s Darrell Granger has a history of delivering the finest in area track athletes. Granger likes to Port Arthur’s Titans peak at the most significant events. They might do exactly that in 2026. The Lady Titans have been showcasing the work of shot and discus thrower Tatiyana Crain and sprinter Jalexis Neal. The guys don’t want to be overlooked with Brandon Richards and Matthew Christian producing area-best times, along with the 4x2 relay squad. Those Bruins have kept being champions, starting with Joe Bowser in the discus and John Fowler in the 800-, 1600- and 3200-meter events. Let’s all keep striving this week at the area meets. You know, just last night I was watching the fights on Paramount and was genuinely impressed that the US has a President that’s a fight fan and goes to the shows. It made me slightly nostalgic for a time about six years ago when I didn’t despise Trump more than anyone who’s ever lived. I didn’t hear any boos, but the reception that he received didn’t seem to be anywhere near as boisterous as at previous times. What amazed me was that somebody cue’d up Sabbath’s “War Pigs” on the sound system. That guy is the real hero.

My thing is this… we had a nuclear treaty with Iran and Trump tore it up in 2018 because it was Obama’s, not Trump’s own. Just today he announced that the US is going to blockade the Hormuz because it’s not fair for Iran to make money selling out to people that they like and not selling people that they (Iran) doesn’t like… as if we didn’t just steal all of those tankers of oil from Venezuela, demand that the world not sell oil to Cuba, etc. Trump is piece of crap who is in a situation that is so far beyond his capabilities, and the true comedy is that his fanboys think this all some big plan. If the world wants to pay Iran a toll to cruise by the Hormuz, and we don’t need the oil anyways according to Trump, what’s the big deal? The big deal is that the fat baby isn’t getting his way. He’s sitting in a dirty diaper and he ain’t happy. At last check he’s threading to murder another level of Iranian leadership because this new level isn’t giving in, either. In less than six months, Trump and MAGA has completely normalized the kidnapping and murder of the leaders of countries with whom we disagree. I can’t WAIT for the crying that starts when some little country sends a team over here to assassinate some of our politicians… especially since our politician (especially the Rs) seem to be so cool with the practice these days. This isn’t America anymore.
