This has been a pretty fun thread to read through....

My two cents (for what it's worth).....

Vidor NEEDS to win this game.... Not only because they want to start 20-4A with a win against a pre-season favorite for a playoff spot, but because they need to back up their 3-0 start with a meaningful win.... No disrespect to Texas High, no disrespect to Bridge City and no disrespect to Kirbyville.... But those games mean nothing.... Those wins mean nothing.... If you go winless in district or miss the playoffs, who cares????? Vidor HAS to have a win, or anyone not associated with the school will continue to consider them as a non-serious contender....  Vidor fans, if you don't like people talking about the meltdowns in district play, then you have to give them a reason to shut up....

Nederland can really make a statement in this one as well.... The loss to Barbers Hill really shook some heads (I think so anyway).... Nederland can re-establish themselves as a threat to the crown by knocking off the team that has slowly become one of the SETX darlings with their 3-0 start....

Whatever happens, when this game ends next Friday night.... If Nederland is victorious, don't be alarmed by the loud thump you hear.... It's only the sound that lots of people jumping off of a bandwagon makes!!!
[/quote]

Your sarcasm is duly noted, as for the loud thump you mention people may hear.....it may just be the sound of the thumping the Pirates put on the Bulldogs Friday night. Excuse me for offending peoples delicate sensibilities but Ned. may not be the only 20-4A deity that falls from their oh so favored perch after an encounter with the Pirates.  :o  ;D

I very seriously question the statement that Vidor's 3-0 start has made them the darlings of 20-4A football. In my opinion it's the exact opposite feeling...I believe it irritates some folks that Vidor has a 3-0 record going into district. I've heard all kinds of excuses for Vidor's wins from.....the weather to a weak non-district schedule to you name it.... as for the fans being able to do anything about Vidor's success in district all we can do is support them to the best of our ability, the rest is up to the coaches and the players......although I guess we fans could click our heals together and repeat....there's no place like the playoffs, but then we'd all make the post season right.
Regarding the bandwagon suggestion.....these kids are firm believers in themselves so it makes no difference who jumps on or off.

See your wrong there. Vidor fans support there teams no matter what. We're not supporters only when our team wins like some other fans.  ::)  ;D
Vidor will be there if we win and if we lose. No matter what.
And we'll be there to call you out friday night when Nederland loses.
Just be sure and show up and take your defeat.

Does it matter? No it doesn't. We play Nederland away this year. And this year we will win. Who cares about what happened in the past. The past is the past. Lets keep it there and look forward to the game this year. GO PIRATES!!!!!!

I think the point being made is that Vidor has more problems with away games vs the Midcounty teams.  I don't think Ned has lost to Vidor at home in a long time, and I think the same could be said for PNG and possibly Central.

    • That's an interesting take, but considering that an incumbent enjoys a HUGE advantage historically, I think Covey came pretty close to an upset. I don't care one way or the other - the biggest reason being that I live in Hardin County. But I have to think the Trump endorsement got Covey that close in the first place. His only recognition was on a very local level, virtually unheard of before the Trump endorsement. Otherwise, he probably would've lost by thousands of votes instead of a few hundred. Just my observation.
    • I think the interesting point is this… Trump backed candidates do better when Trump is on the ballot. Back in March Covey was up by 3%, and that skirt from Jasper pulled about 10%… and most people believed that her voters would go directly to Covey. Conventional wisdom was that Covey would be up by 10-12 points if all things went according to the pattern from March. That just didn’t happen. Typically turnout is lower in runoffs than in the primaries, and my guess is that Phelan had fewer votes this time around than last, but covey had WAY fewer votes. A friend of mine has been watching a similar runoff in central texas, and the results were similar. The MAGA guy just didn’t turn out the votes this May.    My opinion is that a large portion of the support these Trump guys are just that…. Trump supporters. They’ll vote down ticket according to MAGA directives when Trump is on the ballot, but when they can’t vote Trump, they just don’t show up at all.

    • Then you should have known lots of people said the exact same thing when the alcoholic Democrat Ann Richards was elected way way back in the day. Texas has become redder and redder ever since. People, especially blacks, are waking up and realizing the Marxist Democrats are destroying them. Feel free to hold your breath waiting on your dream to happen though. That would be fun to watch, LOL.
    • I don’t think anyone thinks y’all are short on pitching. But 7 pitchers that can go 7 innings in the Regional Finals is a bit of a stretch I would think. I think that’s why he made the joke. Let’s just hope that this weather allows us to play a normal baseball game and not fight through mutiple rain delays every night.
