ROUND ROCK, Texas -- Pitching in front of throngs of scouts can be a nerve-wracking moment for even the No. 1 high school prospect, so one only can imagine what was going through the head of Round Rock, Texas (HS) left-handed pitcher Travis Evans (TCU signee) as he took the mound at Dell Diamond in front of approximately 40 scouts.

Evans, who has moved from the 200s in the Perfect Game high school prospect rankings for 2011 to No. 88 in the latest list, was clocked at 94 mph last week by an area scout in the State of Texas. However, his velocity was lacking against Brenham. Evans topped out at 89 mph and was sitting in the 84-88 range against the highly-ranked Cubs.

"As Evans didn't pitch last summer during the showcase/tournament season, he may have never seen this type of attention before," PG scouting director David Rawnsley said. "He wouldn't be the first or the last young pitcher to grip the ball a bit tighter with all of those guns pointing at him."

Should Evans choose not to sign this summer, he would join TCU in the fall.

He is the real deal.  Even though he wasn't hitting 90+, if you can hold this potenet Brenham offense to 1 run and just a couple hits, you're doing something right.

Thanks for all the great coverage Brenhamfan. Just wanted to let you that Crenshaw starts with a "C". The Cubs faced some great competition in this tourney and came out with only a 2-2-1 record. Brenham now stands 3-2-1 on the young season. Just need a few more timely hits and things will get rolling. Go Cubs!!
