*Silsbee vs. HF Updates*/TIGERS ROLL!!!

Recommended Posts

I just want to say that I learned something this year. It not always about how your schedule look going in to district and all but it about who you play before district. Lets put it this way. Silsbee record is 4-4 now, and some fan would say that not a good record. But Silsbee has played tough teams all through pre-district. Houston Davis (7-0) lost 34-38, Diboll (7-1) lost 24-27, was suppose to play lumberton and newton but both games got cancelled due to hurricane Ike. They played jasper 2-5 (1-2) and lost 14-0 but wasn't having a good week though. As district came by they showed that those games were no fluke. They played WO-S once again the closest than any team in district as the last two years have been 14-7 in overtime but came up short. Then they rolled a 3 game winning streak over BC 21-0, OF 43-14 and tonight HF 42-7. You have to say that having a tough pre-district schedule will bring out that competitiveness out of you once district start.

Silsbee's offense continues to get better every week. Jeremey Johnson was very sharp in the passing game and Chris Barnes broke loose again with a good rushing game. Except for a little lull in the third quarter, the Tiger offense rolled, scoring td's on its' first 4 possesions accumulating 482 yards of total offense for the game. The Tigers only had to punt once as they scored on 6 of their 10 total possesions with 2 of those being kneel down possesions to end each half. Johnson was 15-20 passing for 214 yards and 3 td's, and had 12 rushes for 75 yards and 1 td. Barnes carried 9 times for 149 yards and 2 td's, one of those being from 80 yards. Johnson had a total offense of 289 yards and 4 td's. Also Chase Kelly has really stepped up in place of what was Silsbee's and the district's leading reciever. Chase had 3 receptions for 71 yards and 1 td.

The Silsbee defense played well also, bending some but never really breaking. Silsbee stopped HF on 5 fourth down tries, particullarly in the 3rd quarter where they stopped 3 consecutive drives on 4th down. Josh James continues to be one of, if not the best defensive player in the district as he had 8 tackles and 2 int's. Josh Skinner had one of his best games with 10 tackles, with 5 of those being tackles for loss.

All in all, a very good win for the Tigers as it clinches a playoff spot and gets some redemption for the loss last year against the Longhorns. Silsbee seems to be hitting their stride as they prepare to do some damage in the playoffs.

p.s. Sorry about the bad audio last night. Bad headset and we had to do the game from the stands, no pressbox. Therefore we had to go the cellphone way and that creates lots of background noise. Sorry.
