DoggStyle Posted Saturday at 03:59 PM Report Posted Saturday at 03:59 PM Good wins against two not-so-great teams. So, what kind of strategy is it to leave all your starters in until you're up by 40+ POINTS before mixing in 2nd/3rd stringers? That's a recipe to get a starter hurt, especially when you're in the running for playoffs. You leave your star RBs and starting defensive players in? Is Nederland trying to make a statement or something? All the crowd praises the coach when winning, but if a starter got hurt unnecessarily I'm pretty sure they'd turn. Just idiotic if you ask me. There's plenty of 2nd/rd stringers who could've still done well against that team. Quote

Just for comparison, for the past several years anyway, in runaway games, C.Joseph left starters in the first half regardless of score. But 2nd half most if not all starters sit out, and the bench gets emptied. If the opposition makes too big of a comeback, or perhaps on a critical play, a few appropriate starters may get back on the field. NDNWarrior 1 Quote

Starters pretty much stayed in until mid 4th qtr, up by like 40 points. Quote
Bigdog Posted Saturday at 05:23 PM Report Posted Saturday at 05:23 PM Neumann kept starters in until 1st series of 3rd qtr in blowouts. I guess the coach felt they had something that needed working on. Tougher games are coming up. Reagan 1 Quote
Darth Texas Posted Saturday at 06:02 PM Report Posted Saturday at 06:02 PM I don’t necessarily want my starters sitting for half of three games in a row before starting a stretch against png, Texas city, and Dayton. Nederland might go as well as 3-0 in that stretch, but just as easily goes 0-3. Can’t afford a slow start just because the last couple weeks were blowouts. bulldawg64, Bigdog and Smashem1984 2 1 Quote

Nederland kids are pretty prone to injuries these days, so I personally would take more caution. Quote
navydawg31 Posted yesterday at 12:50 AM Report Posted yesterday at 12:50 AM Didn’t have an issue at all with the starters being in… had to get some work in some way AggiesAreWe 1 Quote
prepballfan Posted yesterday at 11:23 AM Report Posted yesterday at 11:23 AM In our game we began pulling in the 3rd. Especially at certain positions. By 4th it was pretty much getting everyone a chance to play. Quote
A BUC 77 Posted yesterday at 02:48 PM Report Posted yesterday at 02:48 PM I see your point. It’s the coach’s decision. I think they (coaches) are fully aware of kids getting hurt. Working on passing or different plays, is a possible scenario. Keeping them in a rhythm maybe. You don’t want these guys sitting around too long. You know what they say about idle minds. He’s not making a statement. There are no poles here. Quote
navydawg31 Posted yesterday at 03:00 PM Report Posted yesterday at 03:00 PM Nederland went from bye week, to Baytown Lee, Galena park.. if pulled starters from those 2 games early that’s a month without playing a full game… tvc184, AggiesAreWe, Darth Texas and 1 other 3 1 Quote

I would keep the starters in the entire time to get the reps needed because if the Dogs somehow make the playoffs they want get past the 1st round due to better competition. Everyone is worried about injuries. I feel those happen more frequently because we coach them to be soft. Work thru the soreness and get stronger everyday!!! Call me crazy but just my opinion! navydawg31 1 Quote

I doubt if any team from this district gets past the first round, just my opinion, and hopefully I'm wrong. But anyway, if I didn't indicate it in my previous post, my comments regarding pulling starters has nothing to do with preventing injuries, but getting everyone on the team some playing time. With a 35 or 40+ point lead, start mixing it up and get everyone onto the field and in the game. It just ain't right otherwise, to the kids or anyone. Mr. Buddy Garrity and outanup 1 1 Quote

Nederland and PNG both had fairly tough non-district games to get them ready. The district games might not help as much but it is good time to work on everything. Quote
