I strongly disagree that Talarico will be embarrassed by Paxton/Cornyn. Talarico is not Beto. He is a polished, experienced legislator, backed by the Democratic machine. He will get endorsed by national democrats and probably Joe Rogan and other big name independent thinkers. And then add a historically weak opponent in Cornyn (RINO, who pissed off most Texas conservatives with his ridiculous support of Biden gun legislation) and Paxton (crook and absolute scumbag). This one is setting up to be a nail-biter because of the failure of the Texas GOP, who's been hijacked by far right tea party religious zealots, who are more concerned with destroying public schools, subsidizing private school tuition for the wealthy, ten commandments and prayer time in school and primarying any moderate that stands in their way. You can thank looney Dan Patrick and bought and paid for Abbott for getting us to this point and giving moderate republicans and independents poor choices for candidates. It may now have serious implications on the national stage in the US Senate. HangPDFs and UT alum 2 Quote

He won’t be able to hide from it. Paxton will be the nominee. And he has already won 3 State wide elections. So, I don’t see losing! Quote

His last election for AG, he won’t overwhelmingly! Of course the commie press is gonna play up how bad he is. But they’ll usually tell who’s the good guy: they go opposite! Quote

I've already heard republican friends saying they'd vote for Talarico. That's how bad of a candidate Cornyn/Paxton is. I will never cast a vote for Abbott or Patrick ever again and would have to hold my nose and vote R to try to save a Senate seat. Many won't even do that, they just won't show up to vote. I think this will be a lot closer than what you are expecting. But like you say...we shall see. Quote

The difference is a US Senate seat is national. Yes, the same pool of voters, but way more outside money, national media attention, dirtier campaigns, dark money, bigger endorsements, bigger campaigns, etc. I would still be shocked if the democrats flipped a senate seat in TEXAS, but the GOP set it up on a tee for the dems to have the best chance. TheMissingBand Posted 56 minutes ago Report Posted 56 minutes ago It’s important to note one thing… I think Trump’s ICE campaign has erased any gains made with Latinos across Texas in a single year. It’s shocking that the Ds had larger turnout than the Rs this primary season, despite the big fight on the R side over the senate seat. That hasn’t happened in 20+ years. People were sick of Trump and his antics by the end of 2020. I think that over four years they forgot how much they hated his childish behavior and horrible job performance, or maybe just hated Kamala for any number of legitimate reasons. So we got Trump 2.0. All signs are pointing to the Ds outperforming themselves this fall, and i think it overdue. It’s time for conservatives to take control of the Republican Party from MAGA. The days of “let’s figure out who the biggest POS is here, then elect him” are hopefully coming to an end. I hope so, anyways. It would be delicious irony if the Rs trot out a corrupt adulterer who then gets jobbed by a Presbyterian seminarian who happens to be a democrat. thetragichippy 1 Quote
