Last year, La Porte lost their DC to Shadow Creek. Now, LP’s All District Edge/OLB Caden Watson transferred to Shadow Creek.

Was curious why he wasn’t in DCTF mag. Now, I know why.

Curious what y'all think.

La Porte is an open enrollment ISD. So, you don't hear me complain about transfers. But, when a coach is given an opportunity, then leaves for another opportunity they see as a step up, I'm not sure I'm fond of them reaching back to the school that gave them their opportunity in the first place and poaching top players from that program. I'd like to think there would be some type of 'gentleman's agreement' about that sort of thing. Probably naive on my part. But--to me--this is a little different than just the typical transfer situations we see on a regular basis.

Thoughts, while we wait out the last 45 days?

For y’all & Lufkin fans—since Lufkin doesn’t really have much major metro coverage—this is a weekly show on broadcast TV (local CBS channel 11 Houston I think), and this YouTube channel that will talk 9-5A D1 teams every week since half of the district teams are considered GHA.

The YouTube channel will discuss 9-5A D1 every week. The TV program may only hit highlights.

Stepp usually joins the YouTube channel every week with his thoughts as well.

I know, I check them out during the seasons. Can't remember the last time Power picked Port Arthur Memorial in the top-2 in district so his prediction wasn't a surprise for me, the other guy prediction was though, he's high on Baytown Sterling 😳

I really think the district may be fairly wide open for PO spots. I just don’t have a clue about NC & Ball. Rangers have some experience coming back. Wizord may be right, and they may surprise. He’s been around a long time. Usually he has a pretty good take on things.

I do know the Dawgs are coming in mad with vengeance on their mind. They’ve been stewing for months. But, I still think they may start out slow. Wouldn’t doubt if it was more like the 2024 season.

I'd keep my eye on Beaumont United. If they stay healthy lookout... 🤷🏾‍♂️ (They wont be beating us though) 😁

No disrespect to Laporte but looking at who and how they played against some of those teams wasn’t a dominant performance, Crosby was a struggle game and the only good team in the district was angleton. Now they do have weapons, but I think they are being hyped based on those weapons and not overall team play

Sounds like a back-handed compliment to me.

La Porte has only lost 5 district games in the last 4 years, and 4 of those were in Berneathy’s first year back. The Dawgs won 9-5AD1 the last time they were aligned with many of the same teams, and the staff was only in their 2nd year.

Every year is a different year, so we’ll have to wait and see how this year’s team performs. But, to say you don’t judge a team’s chances based on talent returning is kind of odd.

La Porte will play with the same intensity, and physical play they have been known for through the decades.

Yes. LP had some down years between LaReaux and Berneathy with coaching changes. But, they’re still a team with a long history of consistent success and 36 PO appearances. The majority of those appearances were at the highest classification level at the time while being one of the smallest enrollment schools in the State.

I’m looking forward to our renewed rivalry. It was always a fun game. Y’all still have a couple games to try to make up to even the series.

I didn’t listen to the entire show but the part I did listen to they didn’t mention Port Arthur.

Port Arthur is the King of this district until someone kicks them off their throne.

They said Laporte made a run last year.  That run was into the Bi-District round.  No disrespect to Laporte. Just repeating what those uninformed individuals said.

Even us Lufkin folks understand where we are in our re- building process. When Quick was coaching here for 13 seasons after Outlaw passed away, everyone kept giving Lufkin a little of that recognition??  The fact is this program has not been passed the 4th round since 2005. Abseck will build something good here, but he is just in year 2, in fact Abseck was only hired 18 months ago.  I'm not picking a place for Lufkin to finish, just going to see how this year plays out, because this is going to be one tough district. Some pretty good teams may have to stay home.
