QB1 Posted yesterday at 03:07 PM Report Posted yesterday at 03:07 PM As far as the attitude and character of Orangefield's team, yes they had some immature moments for sure. If you have watched them lately or been around the team at all you would see that Whitmire has done a pretty good job of getting those situations in check. The boys understand what they've done wrong and how it affects the team and have done a good job of improving their behavior and correcting their mistakes. This team, on paper and on the court, have proven that they can play ball. They get better, as a cohesive unit, every week and are really playing great team ball right now. Go look at the stats and check out the assist column for sure. Jaden Scales is arguably the best player in this area and the best player Orangefield has had in a very long time. His vision, shooting ability, and comprehension of the game is unmatched. He's a great leader and teammate. Yes, they average 79pts per district game, and maybe that does come from playing in a weaker district, but the fact they hold their opponents to under 42 points a game great. Their defense is smothering. Their conditioning is unmatched. They are sprinting the floor in the fourth quarter while the other team is walking. Another great quality is the depth. They can sub in 4 at a time keep on clicking if they wanted to. Am I biased, sure. But the facts are what they are. They are fun to watch and they are great group of kids. If you haven't had a chance to watch them play, I highly encourage you to come out and do so. They have Hardin tomorrow night and Kountze on Tuesday to finish up district. Both are at home. You won't be sorry. Quote

Also very happy for a guy who has been one of the best coaches in SETX for years in Whitmire. The one thing that worries me for the playoffs is not having really been challenged since district began (other than at EC sort of). Hoping their depth and experience at the varsity level more than makes up with something they had no control over. Not taking anything away from this years team but I think the team Pete Regusa's senior(22-23) year was a little bit better. The window is open this year for OF to win the region though. Quote

Like someone else said earlier just mostly have to stay out of their own way. In D2 both teams you mention are on a collision course. Looking forward catching a few playoff games for sure. Quote

Gave Hitchcock all they wanted in the third round that year Quote

Offensively they were pretty polished and a bit more difficult to guard in the half court with the stuff they ran. This group I think is a bit more lose on offense which made it easier to guard them when Hitchcock played them 23-24 year. Quote
buccaneers4lyfe Posted 18 hours ago Report Posted 18 hours ago This team is very good, but the 22-23 team probably could have beaten anybody in the state besides Hitchcock & those pesky Bucs 😆... I Watched a lot of games that year. They could shoot/had size/ & controlled tempo almost every night. Quote

That team was good but statistically the third best team in the last 10 years, behind the team the following year that won 33 games and lost in the third round and the 2018-19 team that won one more game and also lost in the third round of the playoffs The 18-19 team set the school record at the time for wins (29) and playoff wins, which the 22-23 team came within one of the season total. Obviously, the 23-24 team beat both of those marks. none of those teams won district 13 hours ago, CJFoster01 said: 22-23 team had just dropped down from a tough 4A district so I think they were more equipped to play the slow down game with athletic teams. They actually dropped down 4 years before that. 2017-18 was their last season in 4A. And make no mistake about it. The 23-24 Hitchcock team was the same team, another year older, that also blew the brakes off Kountze (who took 2 of 3 from OF that year) by 40 in the regional finals. they were a buzz saw. Quote

This is correct. Orangefield was 4A in 2021 & 2022 basketball season. Dropped down to 3A the following season. They were 3A in '19 and '20 basketball seasons. Quote
