Lamar Baseball 2024

Recommended Posts

UNO falls to NSU in today's delayed game.  This leaves LU 2 games ahead of UNO as they head their for this week's final conference series starting Thursday.

Holding a 1 game lead on Nicholls who finishes with McNeese.

Sweep for LU and they take first place. Win 1 and 2nd place is worst case scenario.  All other scenarios depend on Nicholls and McNeese outcomes.

Could go into the final weekend in 1st yet be in 3rd when all is complete.  Big series for LU and if you are an LU fan "suck it up" and root for the Pokes.

13-3 win over Alcorn.  Now at 39 wins.  UNO starting Thursday and SLC tournament the following Wednesday.

4 games scheduled the first 3 days of the tournament. Even if you're not a pitch clock fan, you might would appreciate it if your school had the latest game.  This is a change from last year. There was a play in game between the 6th and 7th seed, thus only 6 teams were in the "actual" tournament. This year 8 teams qualify for the double elimination format.

Lamar leads UNO by 4 runs on 3 separate occasions only to fall behind 9-8 by the end of the 7th.  Down to their final strike and get a 2 run double in the top of 9. Hold on and win it 10-9.

Now, magic number is down to 1.  Nicholls still has 2 games against McNeese left and LU faces UNO in the regular season finale tomorrow. Go Birds!

Well, they couldn’t get the sweep. No less than a tie for 1st, hopefully McNeese will come through

That being said, a fantastic regular season 41-13 and 17-7 in conference. I have to be honest, I didn’t think they could do it with Davis leading them. Thankfully I was wrong

Now Cardinals, you have to get it done in the tournament or unfortunately sit at the house with an excellent record

The committee will not take 2 teams from the SLC

Nicholls as you all likely know must lose to McNeese tomorrow for Lamar to be the out right conference champion. That is what most of us want to see.

With that said here's an odd scenario that could happen. There are 3 games left in conference play as Northwestern is playing out of conference and 2 of the 4 series are complete.  The aforementioned Nicholls vs McNeese and 2 games in the UIW and HCU series are left to play. If Nicholls wins and UIW spilts with HCU there will be a 4 way tie for 5th. McNeese, Southeastern. Corpus, and UIW would all sit at 10-14.  No idea on the conference tie breaker for tournament seeds.

Truly wish the conference had a better website that already stated this as well as the tiebreaker scenario.

It has been one fun season and see you all in Hammond Wednesday. Well, some of you. Go Cards!!

Uncle Spidey...you da man!!!  Snakehead, thanks for the updates.  Everyone else, have a great summer and enjoy what's left of the college baseball season.

I will let Southland figure it this year on the tiebreaker. I think it was the WAC I did the spreadsheet on a few years ago in a complicated situation.

Top of the 5th it is early but McNeese lead Nicholls 9-3.

Other than falling into the 1,4,5,8 or 2,3,6,7 part of the bracket the seeding probably doesn't help a whole lot toward winning the championship. Again, it will be who plays well next week. Already happened to McNeese on the women's softball...lost 2 conference games all year then eliminated in the tournament and missed the NCAA tournament.

I guess we will chat next week and maybe a little on the other message boards but always appreciate all the inputs.

Still looking good 10-3 in the 9th

    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!
    • See why I don't trust my Hogs?
    • Come on dude, don’t take anything away from the kids on the field. If you want to talk uncharacteristic, we made what 3 or 4 errors in game one. Y’all had 2 EARNED runs.  Defense is normally our strong suit. Your ace didn’t strike out a single one of our kids. Like I said also, you did not out hit us in game 1. Hell you barley out hit us in game 2. We had all the uncharacteristic walks. Josh pitched a hell of a game is what made that game what it was.
