I'm saying comparing Calvin Tyler Jr. Aka Lil C at Ozen to those Navasota players last year is like comparing apples to oranges.  Those Navasota players and the Navasota team were horrible.  Calvin was great, but the Ozen team was horrible.  Following me now?

Expand

I think also what your trying to get at is the number of people from that Navasota team who made first Team, correct?

AthleticSupporter-Jock and CardinalBacker :

Calvin Tyler's Junior Year at Ozen, he finished with:

27 Total TD's

24 rushing TD's

1,809 rushing yard

8.26 yards per carry

As I've said before, horrible example using him the argument...

Can you explain what the criteria are for being voted 1st Team All-District?  Not your personal opinion but what the coaches use as criteria when placing their votes.

I wasn’t criticizing Tyler, I was making fun of Silsbee Fans.... they believe that Silsbee kids should sweep the All-District awards and Willie Ray Smith Awards, AND each Tiger should receive a full fight to a D1 school. Anything less is a screw job.

Silsbee Fans would have never considered Tyler worthy of anything in 2015 because he played for Ozen. You have to remember that 2015 was the year that Silsbee Fans also claimed to have one of the best receivers to ever come out of southeast Texas.... Mackey.

Silsbee has a long history of honking their horn over nothing.

And just like that this thread got ignorant.  A few fans said best receiver.

2015 was Dontre Thomas discussion not receiving Willie R Smith award.

72 TDs.

Enough said.

Did Dontre get a ring that year? How many touchdowns did he score when he actually faced WOS? And who was the winning qb the night that WOS actually faced Silsbee that fall?

I’d be too ashamed to claim my guy hypothetically deserved an award more than the guy who strapped it up and busted my guy’s tail in an actual game.

But that’s too logical for Silsbee fan.

In the case of the head to head, Dontre scored or threw for all 4 of Silsbee's TD's. Out gained JD by over 150 yards combined passing and rushing. JD threw 2 TD's, 0 rushing. WO-S won the game by rushing it down Silsbee's throat in 2nd half. All JD did in 2nd half was hand the ball off.

If winning a state championship is the deciding factor on winning the WRS, then why didn't JD win it the following year? Had very similar numbers and his team was undefeated state champs.

My point about Dontre, you take him off Silsbee's team they don't come nowhere near what they accomplished that season, 11-3 regional final loss to Carthage. You take JD off that WO-S team, I still say they advance to championship game. May not win it, but still there. Those two championships were mostly led by the Stang defense. WO-S only needed to average around 20 points a game to win. Silsbee had to average 45 a game to win. IMO, that is way more emphasis on the QB for the team to have success.

I agree 100%. He took over that El Campo game (still the best SETX game I've seen).

Said it way better than I would have.

I'm not beating a dead horse again. Flat out had the best offensive season without having to justify it.

The what ifs here and there on playing time just ruined that award for me.

And there goes cardinalbacker, being stupid all over again! That year Mackey had one of the best receiving years in SETX. Also, WRS award= individual award, State Championship =team award. See the difference.

Dangit Cardinalbacker. We had a good debate going about all district selections that would have led to Soulja and old-school both admitting that their statements were foolish and asinine and you ruined it. Good job.

That's a negative, Ghost Rider.  I won't budge on my beliefs on this All-District mess.  The entire All-District team is supposed to be representative of an actual TEAM from the district.  There should only be 11 on All-District for football.  And sorry...but if the coaches got together and actually picked an actual team to play against another district...like it's supposed to be done, the chances of them taking players from the worst team are pretty small.  That's because the teams that are successful...are usually successful because they have a team full of players that are "All-District" caliber.    But thanks to countless complaining and the need to please parents and fans...we now have All-District teams in football with 46 kids out of 6 teams...and even the teams that couldn't muster a district win will have several 1st Teamers.  Such a sad state of affairs we're in when everyone truly does get a trophy.

I agree 100% with MOST of everything you said.  Too much emphasis on Equal Distribution of everything with no consideration for how well you perform or how much work you put in.  We don't want to declare a winner in anything because then the person who lost will have a damaged self-image.  So, it is best to just not keep score.   I hear ya brother.

I agree that things are waterlogged now but actually for football I think there should be 24 positions, 11 offensive, 11 defensive, a kicker and a punter. And I think there should also be a n offensive mvp and defensive mvp, as well as a newcomer of the year.  So I guess that’s 24 positions and 3 superlatives.  That is plenty.

Yes 11 1st team offense and 11 1st Team defense.  That’s what was meant. Technically the MVP, Off MVP, and Def MVP are supposed to come from that list.  But trust me it would be tons better even if the 24 like you mentioned.
