  2. After reading all the posts on the donwlow and this site I must say that....

    1. WOS is usually a very good team that sometimes emerges as a Great team. There football program is head and shoulders above anything else however.

    2. BH is usually overrated.... the main thing is that BH's coaches are good' date=' but the players usually make WAY to many mistakes to win a playoff game, Oh yeah i graduated in 05 and i've seen what happens.

    3. If anyone was jealous or envious of WOS from BH, it was because Doc (our trainer) worked there before coming here. BH is CONSISTENTLY very good in EVERY aspect of the school: Band, UIL Academics, Theatre (the powerhouse in 3a haha) state champs in Agricultue, tennis, Golf, CC, Track, Volleyball, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, and yes Football.

    4. The High School is just flat out amazing.

    5. WOS has MUCH better athletes than BH does, by far.

    6. I thougt Dan Hooks was from BH?

I give many props to WOS for thier achievements and support them usually, but if someone from BH jokes with someone from WOS please just take it as such, because we take yours.[/quote']

Kensington Good post, I agree with all but #2 I have seen many games lost in the playoffs by BH that were just as much coaching than players. Welcome to the board

  3. Congrats Stangs, looks like the Mustangs are doing better once the Basket Ball team came back. BH is stll a good team. It's baseball folks you never know what is going to happen, Look at what Cleveland did to #1 BC . Looks like the Mustangs got there points on one swing of the bat And BH couldn't come back. This lose may be what the Eagles needed.

  4. BH Defeats H-J in Championship Game, 10-3

Ross Hales recorded 10 Ks in the win

Barbers Hill once again got a solid pitching performance and a couple of long balls in downing Hardin-Jefferson in the championship game of the 19th Annual Barbers Hill Invitational Baseball Tournament. The tournament win gives Barbers Hill a 12-0 season record and their second tournament trophy. Barbers Hill will travel to West Orange-Stark on Thursday of next week and host Silsbee on Tuesday, March 21 to close out the pre-district schedule.

Sophmore Ross Hales went 5 1/3 innings striking out 10 and allowed only 1 hit. Though he only gave up one hit, Hales had to work out of mini-jams in all but 2 innings. He gave up 5 base-on-balls and had 2 batters reach base after striking out. Also, BH committed 3 errors while Hales was on the mound.

The Hawks threatened to score in their first at-bat. The lead-off batter struck out but reach when the ball bounced away from the catcher. After a steal and sacrifice put the H-J runner on 3rd, Hales struck out the next two to end the inning. Hales again struck out the last 2 batters in the 2nd after walking to first 2. In the 3rd, H-J lead off with a single. After a strikeout of the next batter, a Hawk runner was thrown out trying to steal. Hales once again got a strikeout but the runner reach when the BH catcher made an errant throw to first. Hales then ended the inning with another strike out.

Mean while, Barbers Hill was able to scratch out 3 runs against H-J pitcher, Jake Brunson. In the first, Chase Barrera single and Colby Townley walked. Derek Hulsey sacrificed both runners. Cameron Campbell popped up to the first baseman but when the fielder fell, Barrera raced home. Momments later, Townley scored when Michael Padgett stole second after receiving a walk. BH scored once in the second on an error, a sacrifice and an RBI single by Townley.

In the 4th and 5th innings, Barbers Hill tacked on 2 runs in each inning using the long ball. First, Townley connected on a 2 out 2-run homerun. Then Octavio Carmona hit his 4th of the year scoring Padgett who had single ahead of him.

Both teams added runs in the fifth inning. H-J got their first 2 batters on base via a walk and an error on the second baseman. Hales then got his 10th K of the game but loaded the bases on another walk. Carmona relieved Hales and got out of trouble with an RBI fielder's choice and a fly out to right. Barbers Hill then added 3 more runs when Hardin-Jefferson committed 2 consecutive errors and hit the next batter. BH then scored on RBI singles by Padgett and Carmona and a sacrifice fly by John Loranger.

In the top of the 7th, the Hawks added 2 more runs on a walk and consecutive doubles. Carmona then got a strikeout and a fly out to right ending the game.

The tournament MVP was Colby Townley. All-Tournament selections for Barbers Hill went to Michael Padgett, Chase Barrera, Ross Hale, Cameron Campbell and Octavio Carmona.

  5. Bouyed by 4 homeruns in the last 3 innings, Barbers Hill advanced to the finals of the 19th Annual Barbers Hill Invitational by downing C.E. King 10-0 in 5 innings. The Eagles will face Hardin-Jefferson in the tournament final.

After 2 scoreless innings, Barbers Hill plated 4 runs in the third. Catcher Jake Ponder got a one-out hit to right. Ponder then stole second before courtsey runner Amondo Fuentes took over. Fuentes advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch and scored on Colby Townley's triple after 2 outs. Townley raced home on another wild pitch. Derek Hulsey continued the inning by skying one over the left field fence for his first homerun of the season. Cameron Campbell followed Hulsey with a shot of his own. Campbell's homerun would be his first of two.

After starting pitcher Bailey Glandt shut down the Panthers, the Eagles once again scored 4 more runs. This time C.E. King assisted BH's efforts. The King pitcher walked the first 2 batters. After a force out at third, BH received another free pass to first. Townley once again found a gap in right for his second triple and came home on the errant throw from the outfield.

Barbers Hill then ended the game in dramatic fashion. Needing only 2 runs, Campbell quickly started the game ending inning by hitting his 4th homerun of the season. Michael Padgett finished off the night by connecting on his 2nd homerun of the year.

Glandt ran his record to 4-0 as he record 6 strikeouts and gave up only 2 hits.

Hardin-Jefferson 4 Tarkington 2 - H-J survived a 7th inning scoring threat to take the win. Tarkington scored 1 run in the 7th and had the bases loaded with only one out. But H-J pitcher Treece Aaron got a strikeout and a groundout to end the threat.
