  1. This team remembers last year's game with Orangefield. That being said, Newton is healthy and will be ready. Playing at home is always a plus. I don't think Newton will be concentrating on anything but the Bobcats come Friday night. And surely could care less about school size, trophies, colleges or much else than whipping the Orangefield Bobcats. I'll be there in supporting my Eagles.

  2. I understand. Good luck in trouncing those other small schools. Just be happy that your route through the playoffs goes through a bunch of tiny schools, and learn to live with the fact that you can't hang with the bigger schools in your own back yard. Face it. Everybody knows that Newton has a great record against far-flung tiny schools, but in reality y'all are just playing in the JV league come playoff time  when compared with the rest of southeast football. If you like to crow about the wins, then be ready to accept the losses.

I like it when trash talking becomes a bit out of hand. "Far- flung tiny schools" like Bridge City, Orangefield, Kirbyville and the list could go on and on. And "can't hang with the bigger schools" is great, too. I guess we'll just dig a hole and throw all those state champion trophies in it, so CardinalBacker will be happy. Gee, I really am embarrassed we have those and the semi-finalist and regional and area and bi-district and district crowns. Anyone got a backhoe we can borrow to dig a hole big enough for all these trophies to bury them? Got to make sure champions like CardinalBacker don't steal them and change the name on them.

  3. It don't hurt my feelings any. West Orange is a quality program and deserves all respect. However, recent history puts Newton a slight favorite in my opinion. No program in SETX can match Newton playoff wins over the last 5 years. And maybe not in the last 10 years. I could be wrong. Newton has 12 playoff wins in the last 5 years and 26 wins in the last 10 years.

  4. There was 20 years of weaknesses brought up at the QB Club meeting yesterday morning and the answer was those weaknesses are why we have been in the state title games and hold the last state title won in the Golden Triangle. Henderson took advantage of turnovers as any good football team should. Orangefield is up Friday at home. Newton won't panic or hang their head. We'll see who is the last standing out of the SETX area.

  5. Bryan Barbay addressed to the public this morning what has been known for a while in private. He has been asked to take over the day to day functions of Head Coach/Athletic Director on an interim basis at Newton. At QB Club meeting this morning he explained reasons he is back at Newton and exactly how things got to this point. He also mentioned that Coach WT Johnson came home from Houston yesterday evening and might make an appearance at the game tonight.

  6. We will bring our own chairs, just so we can watch you cry after that but whooping our green eagles are going to unleash on you guys

We've had our tails kicked by better teams than Tatum. I'm sorry you have to drive all the way down to Newton just for that. Maybe we could meet you in Pineland and let you whoop on us? Just a thought.

  7. As a team you don't get better playing pansies. Tatum has tradition, talent and numbers. Newton won't back down, but we are always slim on numbers. One or two key injuries could be devastating for us. I think we will be better than last year, later in the season. We also will have a new OC to call plays. Same wing T with scats but might have a few formation wrinkles. Just have to lineup and see. I'll be there just like last year. Excited about Newton Eagle football. I can taste that smoked boudain already!

  8. I just visited Doc Young's and there was no talk about that scrimmage there. Of course, I was pretty busy giving Harold  some first hand opinions about the Newton scrimmage. :) Newton didn't shine against Shelbyville either. 2-0. Scrimmages are just that, scrimmages. Next Friday night everybody will get a lot better look at the real teams. Optimism abounds, what about a Newton, Kirbyville, WO/S appearance at NRG....that would be sweet.

  9. I agree with Eagleborn, Newton looked pretty darn good. QB holding the ball too long? That had more to do with Kirbyville covering receivers than holding the ball too long. There also was a problem at left tackle on a few drop back style pass plays. Even anyone that watched "Blindside" should have been able to see that. Newton had some good quickness that helped on the offensive line with the old bread and butter scat. Defense has enough returning starters that understand how to play. One thing no one has mentioned is these boys are still playing for Coach Johnston. Each and every day. They practice for Coach Johnston. And they will win for Coach Johnston. They are family with Coach Johnston.

  10. Honest, straight forward as always rykerx144. :) You know I will always slant everything towards my Newton Eagles, except when they play Kirbyville for I always feel a little sorry for the Cat's, UNTIL this past season. The Newton-Kirbyville rivalry goes back to 1921 and only last year did Newton accomplish something that matched the great Cats. We lost our second state championship game and now stand as equals on the losing of championships. We do have a 3 win lead over the Cats on STATE CHAMPION TROPHIES!! Prayers for you my friend and there is no where in the world better than MD Anderson to cure you. Purple Pride Never Dies!!

  11. Just goes to show how important our game is. Let Newton realize they actually had a great team. Let WOS realize losing really sucks and you cant overlook anyone no matter who they might have lost to previous.

I think that game was the turning point for both teams and they each benefited in a great way. The importance of that game cannot be overstated I think. What ever each team took away from Barbay field that night was exactly what it needed, because both teams played lights out ball after that! I ran into some WOS fans a couple of different times in convenience stores during the playoffs after the games and it was fun to talk about southeast Texas kicking their way up the ladder towards the title game. And the earlier game against each other would come up. But it was never in a negative way by them or me. But it was always how that game had been so important.
