Thanks Big C, I appreciate the support. I know HD Bobcat 55 takes a lot of flack from folks on this board, but I guarentee you, he know his football, no doubt. He may talk more smack than anyone on here (kvilleballa excluded), but he's knows his football. It was a privilege to play next to him for many seasons. He was a great offensive lineman in his own right, while we're giving each other props, and I was always glad he was on my team and not the opponent. We grew up at HD from K-12 and we learned what tradition and school spirit is all about. That's something I believe Coach Slack is bringing back to the Bobcats. When Anahauc is something like 12-28 after 4 seasons under Barbay, don't say we didnt' tell you so. -
Actually both of you are kinda right. HD has owned Hardin, but Hardin has actually won the last three meetings. Here's a list of their recent games: Year Hull-Daisetta Hardin Winner 1990 34 14 HD 1991 61 0 HD 1992 18 14 HD 1993 34 9 HD 1996 12 0 HD 1997 34 20 HD 1998 28 13 HD 1999 55 0 HD 2000 42 19 HD 2001 26 57 Hardin 2004 28 38 Hardin 2005 13 19 Hardin Throughout the 90's matchups of the two schools, both were 2A classifications. 2001 was Hardin's only district victory against HD. '04 and '05 HD had just dropped down to 1A and Hardin had just dopped down from 3A. This year's Hardin team is very exciting and Coach Haynes has done a great job with the program. HD's team is something to see as well. I would have loved to see them play this year.

Some of us happened to have played both ways back in the day. 3 times defensively, twice on offense. I think that counts as a five time selection. I guess it takes a rocket scientist like yourself to figure that one out. hddemon and hatchet, you know in your hearts that Barbay was a pile of garbage during his time spent here at HD. I agree with both you guys on most topics and I respect your opinions but come on fellas. Be honest with yourselves...... He did about as good of a job with the talent he had and the competition he played against as Russell Roberts did here at HD, and that's not saying a whole lot. The only really good coach the Bobcats have had in the last two decades is Randy Copeland, and he moved on to be the head coach at 4A Jacksonville. Maybe Barbay will turn Anahauc around, I hope he does. I just don't want the Anahauc fans getting too excited about it. He did nothing short of average while here in Bobcat land. -

We never beat Burkeville while he was here when we were in 1A. How many 2A district titles did he have when he was here? We were lucky enough that one season we beat Chester, and they upset Burkeville, hence the co-championship. How many years did we not even win one game in predistrict when he was here? Remember those back to back 4-6 playoff teams we had? We would have lost to West Hardin if he was here this year as well. I'm going to drop this because he's gone and that's all that's important. If you think I'm the only one with this opinion, you are saddly mistaken. I wish him all the luck in the world in Anahauc. As far as me using my old jersey number on this site, what does it matter? Are you the best player to ever wear you're jersey? Cedric personally asked me to wear his jersey after his senior year and I was honored to do so. Besides I dont' think me being a 5 time 1st team all-district selection, 3 time 1st team all region pick, district defensive MVP, honorable mention All-State TE as a junior and 2nd Team All-State DE as a senior was anything to blink at. I'm usually not one to bring up individual accomplishments, but there ya go. But you are right, C.B, i'm not, but I think I did ok, or at least dencent enough to use MY jersey number on a silly smack talking website. -

That's great, yall could have had him three or four years ago as far as most HD folks are concerned. Let me know if you feel that same way two years from now. I'm pretty sure you guys will be so fed up with his horrible play calling, non-utilization of players in the right areas, and lack of preperation for oppenents, that you'll be shipping him out the door too. I'm not questioning or calling out the man's character because I do not know him and I wouldnt' do that. I do know how he's ran a piss poor program with loads of talent playing at the 1A level for the past 5 or 6 years with ZERO district championships. Hull-Daisetta lost 4 of the last 5 games against West Hardin under his tenure, compared to 5 total losses to the Oilers in our entire 40+ year rivalry before he came around. Coach Slack has brought an undefeated district title to HD in his first season as head coach. Good luck and good riddens, and I'm sure you guys will improve that 2-8 record, but don't expect him to do what his father has been able to do in Newton for years and years. -

Well said BackInThaDay. Good luck to the Oilcans too. I think both teams have a good shot at advancing past the first round in the playoffs. Unfortunately we have Alto sitting and waiting on us. -

I'm so glad Anahauc is getting to deal with D. Barbay and not HD anymore. We'll see how long he lasts over there in Panther town. -
Nothing in the world makes me think Kounzte hasn't gotten better, I know they have. So have the Bobcats. I told you my opinion was a biased one!!! ;D

Don't worry about it bro, HD beat Legacy 58-12 and we're not on the list and they are......go figure ??? -
That's a hard one to call. HD was really playing short-handed early in the season against Kountze, and the Lions put it on 'em. HD went into that game with a big head I believe (since they beat Kountze 22-0 in '06) and played a bad game, turning the ball over several times. Both teams have apparently improved with the Bobcats just beating West Hardin (who beat Kountze earlier in the season) and the Lions just upset the East Chambers Bucs. I think at this point neither team cares who'd win with HD getting ready for a playoff rematch with longtime playoff foe Groveton, while Kountze is concentrating on taking care of Deweyville and hoping Hardin can knock off EC and get them in the playoffs. I personally think the way HD is playing right now, they'd take 'em, but I'm biased on that opinion. Coach Hodges has done a wonderful job at Kountze and they beat us earlier this year fair and square.
-
As great of a matchup as this one seems to be, it's gonna be easy to predict. If T.Thomas is healthy, EC is the favorite and should win at home. If he plays, but isn't 80%+, then Hardin has a great chance of winning and it should be a great game. If he doesn't play, or he's not himself, limping around, gutting it out, Hardin wins in a big way. Thomas is not only what makes the Bucs click on offense, he's so important as a defensive back. If there's one game this year, that they need Tremain in the secondary, it's against Hardin to help shut down D.Marsh and the Hornet passing game. If he's not out there on D, I can see Jordan Nolan having his way with the Buc defense. I personally think that if he can play, Tremain Thomas will be out there. I don't buy all the crap about him stepping out of bounds and not liking to get hit. This kid is a warrior and he'll leave it all on the line, healthy or not. Really in truthfully, who knows. It's all about who comes out and wants it the most. That's why they play the game!!! My prediction: East Chambers - 24 Hardin - 36
-
So with Kountze' win over EC does this mean.....
HDBobcats9 replied to HDBobcats9's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This scenario reminds me of my junior year (at HD) back when only 2 teams went to the playoffs. We played a terrible game against West Sabine early in district and lost 14-13. We rebounded at beat Hemphill, handing them their only district loss. It all came down to the last game of the season against East Chambers. We beat the Bucs, and we're district champs (tied with Hemphill, but head to head we won), we lose and we're out of the playoffs. We lost a heartbreaker to EC 36-35 at home!!! We win that game and we're district champs, but we lost and we didnt' make the playoffs at all. We beat Hemphill the district champs and we stayed home in November. This is a similar scenario as EC is in, with them beating Buna who would end up district champs, and yet they'd lose out on a playoff birth. Talk about a hard one to swallow, we scored (actually I caught the TD) with about a minute remaining, and we went for the 2PT conversion to get the win. Our QB bobbled the handoff and fumbled, he recovered it and was stopped at the 1 foot line!!! We ended up losing two district games by 1 point in each of them. Sorry to bring up old stuff, but damn that sucked.......lol. -
PNG, Dayton, WOS, Kirbyville have all clinched spots
HDBobcats9 replied to WOS87's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
It all looks good to me except if Dayton beats PN-G, Dayton would be considered outright District Champs correct? Even though they'd have identical records, Dayton would have the head to head win which would classify them as distrcit champs. I dont' think it'd affect the playoff pairing, but it may impact whether Dayton gets "Distict Champs" or "District Co-Champs" T-shirts........lol. -
So with Kountze' win over EC does this mean.....
HDBobcats9 replied to HDBobcats9's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Buna would be district champs with their only loss coming at the hands of East Chambers, a team that wouldnt' even make the playoffs.....yikes!!! -
If Hardin pulls one out against a banged up EC Bucs team, and Kountze beats Deweyville as expected, that East Chambers won't make the playoffs? I was looking at the district records and that's what I came up with. Hardin and Buna finish with 1 district loss, Kountze and EC with two each, with the Lions winning the tie-breaker head to head. Is this the correct scenario???

That's hilarious. HD doesn't have heart. You must not have been at the same game as everyone else. Last time I checked it takes some heart to go on a 28-3 scoring run after being down 13-0 against the defending district champs and playing in front of your home field crown. Last time I checked, it takes a pretty good bit of heart to keep fighting when your down like that against a team that is blowing you off the ball and ramming it down your throat with a big running back. The Bobcats fought, clawed and scratched that whole game and never gave up. heck, the boys from West Hardin did too. Great effort from both teams in my opinion. As far as the "fair catch", last time I checked if you call for a fair catch, and the ball hits you in the chest, and you don't catch it, the ball is live and so is the player that called for the fair catch. He wasn't interferred with, he just got hit in the mouth once he bobbled the ball. I'd really like to see the the official game stats to see how many penalties were called on HD, several not deserving. If we're gonna argue some calls, what about the pooch kick that the refs did give WH, when HD recovered it? What about the punt that clearly kicked off the WH return mans leg and was recovered by HD, that the refs said didnt' hit a WH player? What about the illegal block below the waist on a long HD run, that I personally saw that wasnt' an illegal block? It was all night long, trust me those refs are not from Hull-Daisetta. If anything, all HD's fans were thinkin they must have been from Batson/Saratoga. We played through bad calls and penalties all night long, and didnt' complain, we just won the game. That's the bottom line, Hull-Daisetta Bobcats are District Champions again!!! -

Man, what a game!!! That was one of the best HD/WH games i've ever seen. Both teams played all out all night. Here's a game wrapup for those of you who missed it: West Hardin took control of the game early pounding it with Ethan Tubbs (that kid is a hoss, hopefully he's ok after a 4th qtr. injury) and sneaky trap plays to fullback Patrick Kelly (i think that's his last name). Tubbs punched it in from 8 yards out giving the Oilers a 7-0 lead. The Bobcats tried to run their patented 3 and 4 WR sets and the oilers were stopping it. WH was able to drive down the field with Tyler Copeland making correct reads and captained the Oilers to another TD. The XP was no good, but the Oilers lead 13-0 over HD. It was not looking good for the Bobcat offense, and West Hardin's big line was wearing down the Bobcat defenders. Midway through the 2nd quarter the Bobcats finally hit paydirt with Aaron Cook punching it in for a Bobcat TD after running some powerset themselves. . XP was no good, leaving it at 13-6 Oilers. The Bobcat defense stepped up late in the 2nd quarter and forced the Oilers to punt on their next possesion. QB Sam Elliot hit TE Tre Dickerson for a 36yd TD and the 2PT coversion was good, putting the Cats up 14-13. HD was flagged for a celebration penalty and kicked off 10 yards back. A good return put the Oilers inside the Bobcat 30 yard line with a little over a minute remaining in the first half. After picking up 1 first down, the Bobcat defense held and on 4th down, Tyler Copleand kicked a 27yd field goal with :07 seconds left till halftime. The excitement wasn't over as Adrian Anderson took the ensuing kickoff down the sidelines before being forced out at the Oiler 35yd line, and a facemask penalty gave the Bobcats a few more yards and a final play with no time remaining. They were unable to capitalize. WH - 16 HD - 14 at the Half After falling down early in the game, the Bobcats went to a power formation and began running the ball at the Oilers and they continued this trend in the 2nd half. Jarred Bordies was all over the field for the Oilers at linebacker, but HD was moving the ball at will. After an exchange of possesions and a wonderful WH punt, the Bobcats took over on their own 1yd line. On the 5th play of the drive, Bobcat RB Anthony Brooks took it to the house for a spectacular 86yd TD. After failing on the 2PT conversion attemptin the 3rd quarter and the Bobcats lead 20-16 . At this point the Bobcats had at least 10-12 penalites called on them and were really hurting themselves. Holding calls, offsides, false starts, ineligible man downfield, illegal substituion, block below the waist, you name it, and the Bobcats were doing it. West Hardin was playing a very clean game, and neither team had turned the ball over at this point. After kicking off to the Oilers, HD was able to force a punt from West Hardin and began marching on another big drive. Tyree Patterson was pounding the ball for the Cats along with Aaron Cook and Anthony Brooks. The 3rd qtr. ended with the Cats leading 20-16 with most of the momentum. The Bobcats continued the drive into the 4th qtr. when West Hardin stepped up and shutdown the Cats in the redzone. HD went for it on 4th down and Tre Smith was able to make a spectacular catch at the pylon for a Bobcat Touchdown. On the 2PT conversion attempt, Elliot went to Smith again, this time an Oiler defender made a great play on the ball, tipping it in the air around the 2yard line, allowing Smith to tip it back to himself, haul it in and break the goal line. Bobcats lead 28-16. The kickoff after this score was bobbled by a West Hardin player, and HD recovered the ball. Pandimonium breaks out in the Bobcat stands, as we feel a certain vicorty coming. West Hardin was not done though, after HD fumbled on their second play of trying to pound the ball and run out the clock. A heady Oiler fell on the ball for a recovery. Tubbs started rumbling again. After a couple carries on this drive though he was injured on a tackle and was helped off the field. #21 for West Hardin (sorry, not sure of his name) replaced Tubbs and was able to make a few decent runs. After a holding call on the Oilers called back a first down run, the Oilers found themselves in a 4th and long situation. The West Hardin coaching staff called a timeout and was able to make a perfect playcall. They setup a screen pass to #21 and he had blockers in front and ran for a 28yd touchdown. The XP was no good, leaving the game at 28-22 with 2:55 remaining. With HD's leading rusher, Patterson on the sidelines, along with Oiler RB Tubbs as well, the Oilers attempted an onside kick, which initially looked like they may have recovered, but Tre Dickerson came out of the bottom of the pack with the ball and the Bobcats took over. After two short running gains, the Oiler defense stopped A.Anderson for a loss and called a timeout with 1:14 remaining and the Bobcats in a 4th and 9 situation at the 50 yard line. Coach Slack elected to punt the ball which turned out to be a great call. The Oilers came all out for the block but didnt' get it. An Oiler defender attempting the block ran hard into HD's punter. The punt rolled all the way down to the Oiler 1yd line setting up what appeared to be a 99yd field to go with a minute left in the district championship game. Roughing the kicker was called and the Bobcats gained the first down by penalty. They ran out the clock on next couple plays with WH having no timeouts remaining. It was ironic that Hull-Daisetta had an unreal amount of penalties called agianst them the entire game, while West Hardin played excellent penalty free ball for the most part, but the game was put out of reach due to an Oiler penalty (which was a legit call). Overall that was a great game, and neither team would give in. That's what it's all about. Congratulations Bobcats on an undefeated district championship and gaining the school's 501st all time victory. Bring on Groveton again, it's playoff time. -

You're probably right, it's bigger numbers wise for sure, but I don't know about overall. I've been lucky enough to see the NED/PN-G game twice, once at Ned. and once and the Reservation and it is INTENSE. Two great programs who's season is looked at as unsuccessful if they lose this game. Well it's the same thing out here in the sticks. You can bet on the fact that 80% of all the little towns that make up these school districts will be at this game. Folks from Batson, Saratoga, Thicket, Hull, Daisetta, Raywood will be packed in tight with standing room only, not to mention the people from surrounding towns of Hardin, Liberty, Moss Hill, and Devers that show up year after year to see this game as well. Just like NED/PN-G, if you're not from here, you don't know what it's about. It's our own little Mid-County Madness!!! As far as the HD players weights go, those numbers are off of HD's official roster. Reguardless, you said it yourself, they average 224lbs. across the starting line. I think my orginal post said they average around 225........... Let Go Cats!!!!

Zach, it's good to hear you're side of the story. I want you to know that I was very proud of the way you and Thomas played ball. Both you guys played with heart and determination, and that's what it's all about. I would have loved to have seen you wearing a black and red jersey but I think it turned out right the way it was. Congratulations on a great highschool football career with the Oilers. As far as the smack that's being talked, that's about all it is. The guys I played against from West Hardin are still very good friends to this day. Cory Mosley, Marty Lofton, Matt West, James Whiteside, Jason Slankard, Randall Brown and the list goes on and on. We had a unique relationship, being so competitive with each other, and yet we respected those guys and knew they would always bring it anytime they stepped on the field or court. It was funny because we always wanted those guys to transfer to HD, and they always tried to talk us into moving to WH. In the end, it was an experience that I am so glad I got to take part in, the Hull-Daisetta vs. West Hardin rivalry game. Coach Westfall has changed West Hardin into a very competitive program that will create a great matchup for this rivalry game year in and year out. Good Luck to both teams, but I know the Cats are fired up and ready to get it on. We've got to reclaim what's our's, the district championship!!! P.S. Zach, in case you didnt' know, this is Brandon B. ;D
