Baytown Lee at Galena Park Game Thread/GP wins 38-35

Good thing I quit listening there at the end. Said Lee went for it on 4th and 1 from their own 20 with 30 seconds left and GP had no timeouts....what? I would have thrown my laptop through the window. What do you hope to gain from that? You have your third string qb in the game, on your own 20 with 30 seconds left in a tie ballgame. You expecting to go 80 yards in 30 seconds there? Just punt it out to the 40 at east, make them drive the ball a little bit with no timeouts and try to get to overtime. I could see if there was two minutes left maybe you have time to drive 80 yards. Not seeing the upside with 30 seconds left. Hope Zellars can recover and get healthy and this does not affect his scholarship possibilities. -

This play by play guy is pretty decent, but he keeps calling the kids "big, fat guy" and the like. Seems a little harsh considering it is high school kids we are talking about here. Usually there is a more diplomatic way of saying that rather than just calling them fat. -

35-35 near the end of the third. These two teams must have 400 yards of offense each at this point. -

They gave me a new phrase though. Never heard of the 52 fake out before. -

I'm listening on the Internet. Didn't have the desire to drive all the way out there to watch Lee get their brains beat in. -

Real defensive struggle here. -
Never have understood how the cries and complaints of a small minority can trump any sort of feelings someone else may have about the situation. I grew up with Dixie. Reminds me of my Dad, who went to every Lee game from 1960 to the day he died in 1999, save for the year he was in Vietnam. I can still remember riding around my three wheeler in the backyard in Pelly, humming "dixie" and "are you from dixie?" to myself to entertain myself. Didn't even know the song had words to it. Didn't know the origin. It was just a school fight song. I actually remember my Dad telling me that the words to "are you from dixie?" were "we're going to state" The part that was allegedly "we're going to state" starts at :13 seconds in the below video. ] Baytown Lee has changed so much it hurts to look at. No Brig, the cheerleaders don't do a lot of the traditional stuff that they used to... I know it all goes back to the people that go there now just don't care. Still tough to swallow.

Does Baytown Lee even have "Dixie" in their playlist any more? I don't seem to hear it. I think they quit playing it around about the time they quit being good. ] Link provided for those that forgot how it goes.

I think Galena Park? I haven't heard anything about him. I'm not that plugged into the program.

Basketball and baseball are probably out of the question. Maybe soccer? Track used to be a pretty good bet, but not any longer.

It has them with 2 int's and 2 fumbles. Wouldn't be the first time the Chron was wrong. I hope GCM can do something in the playoffs. I will be rooting for them. I would just like a Baytown team to be good at some point, preferably Lee, but I am willing to listen to Sterling and GCM being good as well. Lee just doesn't have a defense is the problem. The horrible schedule was making it look as if they did. They have some good defensive backs, but they don't have the goods up the middle to stop running teams. Rayburn moved up and down the field on them. When I saw that Rayburn got trounced by Pearland so bad, down 48-0 at the half I believe, is when I started to want to redo my prediction. Not that I thought Rayburn was good, but I didn't want to believe they were that laughably bad...which then led me to conclude that Lee isn't so hot since they let Rayburn hang around. Oh well..it was fun while it lasted thinking that Lee might be at least decent again. Back to pulling for the Texans and Longhorns.
The only game in town. Should be a full house.
hahaha good one. a 20% full house would be surprising.

Thinking about not even going. This is my Saturday to work, and it's tough having to drive all the way back from Baytown to Missouri City that late at night then getting up so early the next morning. Might just check in here for updates.

Independent of this score, Lee has some potential on the freshman team. I saw them against Sterling and that was without the Lee quarterback playing. He hurt his ankle and was dressed, but he did not play for that one. The qb(#1) and the rb(#2) could both actually help out on varsity right now for the Ganders. I think I would bring them up. I may want to amend my original prediction on this game. The more I think about it, I really wish Lee would have scheduled at least one real opponent before this game. I wish this game would have come after the TC or Dawson game, so Lee could have had an idea of what a real team looks like first. Problem is, they have to win this one pretty much. Whichever team loses it will be in trouble.

This Lee freshman team has a little potential.

I think the team is just more refined in how they go about their business this year. They seem more mature. It could be that they have played the dregs of the area though ;D We will see this weekend. They will still get rolled in all likelihood against Dawson and possibly TC. I think they have a fighting chance against everyone else in the district.

I think a couple of basketball players showed up for the Lee football team for the first time this year maybe. Not sure where a couple of these guys came from. I did not get a chance to see the Lee freshman teams of the last two years, but they have a few sophomores and juniors that I have never heard of. Then they have Willie and Gilbert at safety, both college-level players. Hidalgo and Montoya have been on varsity for the last three years at linebacker, Montoya as a 10th grader and Hidalgo since he was a 9th grader, so he never played freshman ball. Gomez at receiver never played much freshman ball, as he was on varsity at that time and is now a junior. Leonce is smallish and just now getting to the point where he can use his speed and quickness. #21 is at one corner, and seems to be a junior. He made an outstanding play on a ball last week for an interception.Kid named Washington at the other corner is a sophomore, and he is very polished looking for being so young. Kion Richardson at one outsider backer position is maybe not as athletic as Jaevon, but he is a very capable outside linebacker in a high school setting. The other side, #31 seems to be new to the program as well. I've never seen him at least. Sarabia and Trent up front are both veterans of the program. Cedeno at running back has matured nicely and is a much better back than he was last year, maybe one of the best backs in the district. He is a very solid, capable high school running back, which Lee has not had a lot of really lately. Zellars is a D1 type recruit that has come on in the passing game and can typically just run around and make stuff up and is athletic enough to break tackles and outrun some defenses. Gomez and Job on the outside, both over 6' tall and fast. Leonce on the inside is quick and shifty. The line is doing well enough. I look forward to seeing the game this Friday. I am interested to see just how real this team is for Lee. I have high hopes, but I am not too sure of it just yet. GCM should be a good barometer.

Baytown Sterling - the Streak
gary-us-bonds replied to Steven Avery's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
That's what I have been asking. Maybe North Shore has finally widened their recruiting net enough to snag some Baytown kids? Lee has five or six pretty athletic kids on their freshman team, and they should have been up 28-0 on Sterling at half if not for the Sterling teachers also doubling as the officials and calling back three touchdowns. Sterling somehow came back and beat them in the second half, but I left at half. Lee has a pretty decent amount of talent on this freshman team. Nothing like the Lee teams of ten years ago mind you, but they were a lot more athletic than the Sterling kids, plus the best player for Lee did not play in that game. He seemingly had a messed up ankle. You could tell he was their best player by looking at him during warmups. He was their qb.
