At the Sophomore and JV level coaching doesn't matter too much. We won district both years with coaches not very familiar with baseball. Once in 5A and once in 4A. You learn coverages, etc. from the varsity coach and by working in with varsity whenever possible. Heck we made our own line up some games and nearly went undefeated both years. By high school you have a good handle on the ins and outs of the game. In my opinion sub-varsity games are nearly always won by the team with more talent. It's almost like Sandlot ball. At the varsity level there's much more strategy going on. From setting up pitching rotations to scouting reports, etc. A team with tons of talent can be beaten by top coaches. I can't speak for every school but our sub-varsity used to get plenty of work with varsity in practice. That's where things are learned, not the games.

Knowing Coach Carter, his record and his history at Sweeny I really doubt anyone is getting special favors. People said the same thing when I played for Stone. Funny part was the parents had complaints about the line up and said he was showing favoritism yet us players didn't have any issues.

Unless somebody was there and witnessed it that's hard to believe. Coaches usually are all connected in some way and will trade throughout the playoffs. A team from another region would want to get stuff from a team very familiar with an upcoming opponent, a district rival. Even if a coach went out of his way to give info to another team who cares? Scouting reports don't win games.

I know of one NCAA team last year that sent every piece of scouting info they had to an arch rival. Why? Because if their arch rival won the series against another Conference team the team sending the reports got in the tournament. Their rival didn't ask for it either. It was just sent. This is baseball. It's actually pretty common.

Teams that make deep runs develop rivals that don't want to see their success. I'm sure teams like Moody, Calallen and Brenham have had plenty of this happen to them.

Teams that adapt to their environment are the most successful. This is true from the coach down to the player (yes, mom and dad, jr. is expected to make game time adjustments.) What irks me the most is watching a player not do what his/her coaches are telling them and the parents steadily yelling at the coach to make adjustments.
 
If you are predictiable, even the granparents in the stands can figure out what you are doing.

I called the new school, needless to say they were a little surprised. After a couple of times being transferred and uncomfortable responses of uh no we don't know anything about him or any hire and we can have our AD get back to you sometime I couldn't help but laugh a little. His son was taken out of Ozen last week.

Year after year results matter. Those 3 have been the consistent teams and even during "down" years they win. PNG hasn't missed the playoffs since 1995 or 1996 and that year they tied for 3rd in 5A when only 3 teams made it. You're right it has zero to do with the name on the jersey but it does have a lot to do with the talent coming up through an area. I like Lumberton and being picked 3rd in 20-4A despite not having a ton of success in their history is actually giving respect to the Raiders.
