Rebel Yeller

I may have to revise my score prediction as I had forgotten that the Rebel JV had added a game for last night and so they are unavailable to come in when things get out of hand in this one. I announced the SP vs. Evadale JV game last night and I might have gotten a bit of foreshadowing as Evadale scored 32 points in the 1st quarter. I have not ever seen a game where JH starters got to sit out an entire half. Even three linemen got carries and two of the three got possitive yards in single back sets when everyone knew they were getting the ball. This one could get ugly!

Josh Swift might be the leading scorer this week. I feel certain that Coach Williams will give that young man plenty of opportunities to kick field goals and you can be sure that the JV squad will get in some work as well. Rebels don't run up the score with Williams at the helm, but this one might be out of his control, since you can keep people from scoring? Rebels 55 Sharks 6

Evadale JV 30 Anahuac Freshmen 16 Good game, before anyone jumps on Evadale JV for playing a freshman team, only 6 sophomores on Rebels JV, the rest are freshmen. Wes Williams had three TD passes and close to 200 yards passing in the game.

The Kirbyville Wildcats (7-0) and the Evadale Rebels (6-0) are the only two undefeated teams left in SETX country. I'm sure that the folfs in Kirbyville are as proud as we are in Evadale of our team. In fact I know everyone is proud of their team regardless of their record, I just think that it is a something to be proud about. There will be those who say that the Rebels don't play any competition and for those nothing that is posted will make a difference in their opinion of the Evadale program. To them all I can say is "it's your right to think and believe anything you want". I for one just love to see our guys be successful and I hope that they can prove some of the doubters wrong when the playoffs roll around.

The Rebels should be able to take care of business the rest of district play and then focus on the goal that they set for themselves at the beginning of the season, winning playoff games. The team looked more complete tonight running and passing the ball. Nichols was able to rest at teh end of the game and did not have to play defense last night. Save a couple of breakdowns, if was a complete victory for the Rebels and a glemse of things to come.

[/quote] Just a correction Blue, ball was placed on the 20, but it was a 15 yard mark off for holding inside the 5. But the down was still 3 the Rebels just elected to go for the FG attempt on 3rd. The staff did know it was 3rd.  But the officiating in this one was comical all night long. That was just the last straw!

Evadale's! Undefeated 5-0, three shut outs, 20 points allowed in the two games that they were scored agaisnt. 4 points per game average! Trey White - Nose Guard Tyler Tucker & Adam Stark - Defensive Tackles Shawn Totten & Ryan Freeman - Outside Linebackers Chris Harvey & Chase Franklin - Inside Linebacker Dustin Potts & Tanner Hawethorn - Cornerbacks Billy Nichols & Kip Rawls - Safeties I would predict that 7 or 8 of these are 1st team all district at the end of the season with the other 2 or 3 being 2nd team just a repeat of last years all distirct squad which had the Rebels with 6 or 7 first teamers in a larger district. Harvey was the other co-defensive MVP last year White, Tucker, Stark and Franklin were 1st team Totten & Freeman were second team Nichols was the district MVP You can add Kyle Taylor, Daniel Kilpatrick and Eli Loar in the mix too.

I know this will be seen differently by people, but a poll that places teams from the two divisions into one seems to be difficult to get a grip on especially as we move into the district portion of the season. The AP lists 23 teams on the 1A poll but only 8 of those are D2 teams and will be completely uneffected by what happens in district play or the playoffs for D1 schools. I don't know about you guys, but I am looking forward to 10 PM on Friday night when this thread can be put to bed. Just to clarify a few things... 1. The UIL makes district and division assignments, not the Evadale coaching staff. 2. Evadale plays non-district games against area teams that in years past they have played in district against and of course to make the SETX polls easier to figure. 3. Evadale respects the tradititions of other teams in the area, that is the reason that the coaches begin breaking down film from their next opponent shortly after they get finished with a Friday night game. Thinik thats not right just ask the coaches wives if they have enjoyed having their husbands home early during this off week. 4. We will not apologize for having more kids come out and participate in athletic than other schools our size. We know how important it is to have our younger players competing and excelling against players their own age. It has yielded dividends the past few years and will continue to do so. 5. We are as excited about our school and our teams as anyone else. We are glad you are glad you support your team too. This forum would be really boring if everyone liked us. 6. Nothing that is said on this board will effect the final score of Friday nights game. To the Mustangs, good luck and have a great game. To the Rebels lets just keep rolling. I for one would like to see all our district teams do well. It would sure cut down all the weak district stuff. but you know they said the same thing in baseball and see how well that worked out last year!

A well deserved tribute for Coach Barbay, but I sure do hope this is the last sticker we have to put on helmets this year.

Great pictures and if you have others I would love to get them from you for our end of the year slide show. But the way what lense are you shooting with?

I am quite sure that there are hundreds if not thousands of stories like these about Coach Barbay. I never had the pleasure of meeting him and I count that as a great loss. Many of us have been profoundly touched by coaches in our lives. We learned things that are a part of us for our entire life. To all of Newton and to the Barbay family in particular our thoughts and prayers go out to you. I don't know about any of the rest of you, but I think I will try to run down my old high school coach and thank him for the impact he had in my life.

After Week 4 seven teams remain undefeated in SETX... PA Memorial, Galena Park, LCM, Livingston, Kirbyville, Hardin and Evadale. Who do you think will finish out the season with a perfect record?
