3. Been looking forward to this game all year! The Rebels have had a great season as they have the past few years, but I believe that this is the year that they get the playoff monkey off thier backs. The team from D'Hanis has some athletes and they run a spread formation, but I think that player for player the Rebels match up well against the Cowboys. D'Hanis had a difficult time with Woodsboro as they won 14-13 after having been down 13-0 at the half. I think that the Rebels will be able to wear them down and pull away as the game goes on. Rebels  35 Cowboys 7
4. Transfers or no transfers, it makes no difference to me. I just want to see the smaller schools survive. The State of Texas would like to merge as many small schools into larger districts as it possibly can. It means that the pie (state funds) gets cut into fewer pieces and slightly larger pieces, to boot. Bigger does not mean better. There are some great students and athletes that come form all sizes of schools. I just want to insure that the options continue for smaller schools. You hear that almost all schools are actively seeking transfer students. Vidor recently changed their policies on it and Bridge City has billboards around the Neaderland/PA area to hopefully bring in students. I am more concerned that we may be approaching something that is more like the old NCAA where funny business comes into play as junior high kids parents start getting strange phone calls from secure untracable cell phones asking them what it will take for "little Johnny" come transfer and play for such and such school. Don't laugh! It has happened before and it could certainly happen again and remember that the UIL does not have an enforcement division like the NCAA to police all the possible violations of the rules by TExas schools.
5. The only way this does not become a problem is ranking each classification separately. That means that the final 5A poll comes the day after WB and PAM play head to head. Then if you want to be eztra sure that the results are accurate then you have to separate the classes by the D1/D2 schools. In 1A/2A that is easy since the districts are split up. but it is amoving target for the school that have to wait for the end of the season, so we can not have a pol for them until the end of the season, a first and last poll, broken down by division. I want to thank the guys that put this together and say good job. Now that does not mean that I will always be happy with where my Rebels are from week to week, and I will say so from time to time, but since this is just for fun and they are just something to generate lively posts like the one that is happening now, I would say it is more than doing its job. I personally wish every team in SETX playoff success. I hope that we have lots of teams playing well into Dec. and can bring all the State hardware home that we possibily can. Keep up the GREAT WORK SETXSPORTS!
6. I had a chance to speak to James #20 for High Island (wont even try to write his last name, it would be bad if I did) I was glad to hear that he will be able to come back for track and baseball. Got to say hi to his mom before the game too. I can't tell you how proud I am of the students in SETX country. I have seen a couple that have not always shown class, but 98% of the kids suiting up for teams throughout our region have plenty of heart and lots of class. Often times much more than those who post on this site. I am not a fan of the way the UIL did the breakdown for playoffs. Two teams per district would be more than fair and will likely avoid some very lopsided games this coming week, but with that said I would be willing to say that at least one #3 team will advance this weekend and maybe even through the area round. A team gets a play back from an injury or they are clicking on offense. Football is a funny game and teams that are not supposed to win do it all the time. I want to wish High Island and Burkeville success this weekend in their games. It makes our district look better and it would be a kick to see our area do well this playoff year. If the season ends, it ends and we start playing basketball. We are just lucky that most of our kids at this level play just about everything. Those parents of 4 & 5A players will be done for the year since few players at those levels play more than one sports (I know some do, but not anything like our kids at 1A!)
7.
Thanks for the advice Yeller...good luck to the Rebels next week!
Not a problem you can measure off the yards and all (remember Gene Hackman having the kid measure the heights of the goals in the gym before the championship game? I love Hoosiers!) Well the field deminsions are the same. but the way those stands look is quite a bit different from anything that our teams get to play in at our classification. Bigger is not always better when it effect the way that the kids play the game.
8. The Rebels played their playoff game at SHSU last year and all I can say to the Mustangs is get there early to get used to the surroundings. It is a large stadium and it takes some getting used to. The perception will be so much different and it will make a difference in how the team plays. Just a suggestion, take it for what it is worth.
9.
I have not seen the new district yet but i believe that they will come in just short of the playoffs and come in 4th place. they have the talent of a playoff team with a great young coach but it will take a few years for coach henry to really turn things around. but i also think that with the talent they have and a good coach they may upset one of the top teams in the district.
Is Jason Henry the head basketball coach as well as football?
10.
I will be there with bells on! ] Hope all have safe travels.
Always happy to host our neighbors from the coast! Drive safely, see you tomorrow night.
11.
Good luck Lady Rebs.  Play with Heart and remember, "you mess with one you got us all"!!!  We're behind you all the way!!!
Mo you forgot to say "WAC EM!"
12.
Look for this one to get out of hand realy quick. With this be Sr night the starters will play a lot more than they have in some of the other blowouts. As far as Billy ,he still is having  headakes and is going to go back to see Dr. Friday.  But also just heard that they have another starter that will prob. not play due to shoulder injure :(
Heard that everyone is healthy and the Rebels will be a full strength!
13. This will be a game that the Rebels will surely win. It would have been a better game if the injury bug had not fallen on the Cardinals earlier in the year. The Rebels will have their JV players on the sidelines, but it will be senior night so you can be sure that the seniors will want to play as much as they possibly can for their last game on the Battlefield. Coach Williams also has to weigh the fact that a Rebel victory will mean a bye week and no game next week for the Rebels. He may stay with the varsity players even if it gets out of hand to be sure that the team gets as many reps as they can going into the bye week. The JV did not make the trip to SP so the varsity players were in from start to finish, but I believe that the Rebels will play the varsity players well into the 4th quarter and maybe only spot substitute JV players in who might have the opportunity to play if needed in the playoffs. Rebels 52 Cards    0
14.
Just to let y'all know, we will have at least one week of playoff pickems, maybe more. 15. I believe that the Rebels will be ready for this game. I know that focus is hard to keep when a game comes up that really does not mean anything to the standings. This very late trip out of district play is not something that often happens, but it will be good for the Rebels. From here on out focus is what everything will be all about. It is the kind of focus that the baseball team had last spring as they made their way all the way to the state championship game. It is all about taking care of business. Each player on their assignment, each coach on preparation and insuring execution, even the little things like the guys on the sidelines who take care of the kicking tees and the water bottles. This will be a test of the Rebels ability to rise above the things that will try to rob their focus, but I believe this will be another shining moment in another great season and a prelude to bigger and better things that will come in the playoffs.
16. Well not everyone will like the weather turning cooler (some might say cold, but they just don't know cold!) but everyone has to like the opportunity to bundle up at a game and enjoy a game where at the end you don;t feel like you need a shower worse than the guys who were out on the field. Bands in their uniforms like the cooler weather since the companies that make those things believe that every band in America comes from schools that are located north of Oklahoma City. Cheerleaders get to break out their cool weather gear and of course it matches all the other items in their uniform line so they are still as school spirited as ever. The coaches get to put on their jackets for the game and even the players help out the economy as the shelves at Academy will be picked clean as players by new long sleve Under Armour shirts. See this  will be a great thing in so many ways. Concession stands will have hot coffee and hot chocolate to go along with all the other items that are for sale and those make the boosters much more money than the soft drinks. All the groups selling raffle tickets for hunting riffles will sell lots of tickets as the hunters get the itch of the changing weather. Even companies that do specialty items for teams will get a boost as people will need to trade in those short sleved shirts for long sleved and of course they must bear the team name and the number of their player, band member or whoever else they have involved. How would have ever thought that the cure for the area's economy just might be tided to the tempature dropping just a few degrees!
17. Things will be much clearer on Saturday morning! All the slots may not be filled but the pathways will be much clearer and even some set in stone at least as to which teams are in and many who will definately be out. Let the games begin!
18. Well Joharr my friend unless the Oilers can find some offense I would have to lean towards the Bulldogs in this one. This just does not seem to be the Oilers year and I am not sure their fortunes will change this week. I could be wrong (I often am) but only 10:30 PM on Friday will tell for sure.
19.
This game marks the downfall of the Texas high school football playoff system.  UIL.........you are a disappointment.
I understand what you are saying 2. It is like the UIL wants every team in the playoffs. I just wonder if it is better to just end your season with a final regualr season game or get blasted in the playoffs. I know some people will say that Evadale has been steamrolled in the last four years, but that only proves the point if we have been the best that our district can offer and it happens to us what kind of luck does the 3rd place team in our district have? Hey I think it is great when kids get to play playoff games, but I do not believe that all those guys and girls who did not make it when the system only took the district champion came out warpped and unable to survive in society. With the way our region is set up this year it is likely that the 3rd place team could end up playing in Victoria and that will make for a very long and unpleasant trip home. Now with that said there will be one or two teams in the state that will come from the #3 place in their district and will clean house in the first couple of rounds of the playoffs and all of this arguement will be worthless, who knows it could be the 3rd place team from our district, but I doubt it. i know that SP and HI have a long history and a great rivalry so to both teams good luck and play hard. The winner will get a shot and in life I guess that is the best we can hope for.
20. The 2010-2011 school year is one that the floks in Evadale have been looking for since 2000-2001. In 1A every so often a group of kids come through and they just have a successful run and in 1A if you have a core group of athletes the program can be more than successful they can dominate and win championships. The Evadale class of 2011 is just that kind of class. The guys have won 3 district championship at the varsity level, they have two JV championships, in basketball they have steadily improved each year with last year coming within a win of a district championship and advancing in the playoffs as they lost in OT in the opening round. This group has 3 district baseball championships with their senior season still to come. They were a regional semi finalist two years ago and the state runner up this year and will likely be the preseason #1 team in the state in the spring. They won a district track championship last year. The girls have won a couple of VB district championship including this year after the team did not make the playoffs in 2009. They have won three basketball district championships and advanced to the regional tournament last year. They have won two softball district championships and went to the second round last year. They have one district track championship in three years. When you boil it down the class of 2011 should finish with an impressive winning percentage of over 90% for their high school years. They have 17 district titles with 6 more possible. They have advanced in the playoffs past the first round 7 times with plenty of opportunities still to come. We have 18 to 20 seniors that are involved in one or more sports this year and all they know how to do is win. Oh, and in case you were wondering, the class of 2012 will likely carry on where the class of 2011 leaves off as there is plenty of talent in that class too!
21.

Just for comparision over the last four games the Rebels have scored 171 points while allowing only 24 with two games being shut outs. For the year the Rebels have scored 247 points (average 35 per) while giving up only 37 (average 5 per). The Rebel D has pitched 4 out of seven shut outs with the other three teams scoring 13, 12 and 12. I know that stats do not win games, but if the Rebels play as they have through the first seven games I still have to say that the Rebels come out on top of this one.
Those are some pretty good stats.. And pretty accurate as well.
Thanks I try!

23. I am not in media, but have had some dealings with radio and TV over the years. This is all about air time. It is a limited span that any media organization has to work with. If you take the time that each HS game gets even on the expanded Friday night shows you can see that it is only a couple of minutes if that. I believe that things like the events at Ford Park are covered more for the economic impact that having all those teams comeing to Beaumont has. If you gave every youth football program just a couple of minutes each you would need an hour long show and you do not even get that with HS football. Local papers do a better job, especially the weekly papers in the area. It is just a fact that youth sports (pee wee's) are never going to get air time, unless there is some wild play that someone sends in from a home movie. It is just the way that it is. Just encourage kids to stay with their sport and when they get to HS they will get on TV.
24. This should be a good game. I have seen some film of CCS and they have some impressive talent and are well coached. The Rebels are on an impressive winning streak which gives them plenty of momentium going into the contest and it will be good to see how the Rebels stack up against a good team before heading into the playoffs. I will of course take the Rebels in the game and my prediction is Rebels 27 Warriors 14
