1.
Hey rebel yeller can kids still play if they arent signed up yet? Burkeville has sum good talent..
Send me names and phone numbers on a PM and we likely can get them in!
2. We hope to have things finalized by Thursday. As it stands right now we are looking at three games that will be played on Friday night, May 13th. 6 PM 2A-4A Boys game 7 PM 1A-4A Girls game 8 PM 1A Boys game Over the weekend we will post the teams for the games. One $5 ticket will get you in for all three games and the money will go towards scholarships.
3. Don't know anything about Broaddus, but the Rebels have been playing great baseball all season. This will be a great test for both teams but the Rebels have a mission to complete and I would not want to be standing in their way at this point in time!
4. Congrats to our neighbors to the north! Hard fought district battle should make the Cougars ready for a run in the playoffs, hope the Cougars and the Rebels are still playing when it comes time to head to Austin!
5. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED - Phase 1 The Rebels completed their district schedule undefeated and in a most convincing manner as the won 25-0 in 3 innings against Spurger. That means that this years senior class has not lost a single varsity district game in baseball and football since they began high school. Now it is on to Phase 2 where the only thing that has eluded this group of seniors is a State Championship. They will have to wait a bit to see who will be their area round opponent, but Phase 2 of the mission is now center stage...putting together another run to the State Championship tournament and hopefully one one victory than last year. Great job Rebels onward and upward, take them one at a time with your eye on the prize!
6. Should have them by the weekend. We have hit some snags and trying to be sure that we have everything all together. Game format will be a bit different as well as the day the games will be played. But I know it will be an interesting match up and some great games. Final news coming SOON!
7.
The impeccable Mark Williams and a rash of unprecedented and iniquitious talent at the small school named Evadale, nestled in the Pine woods of Texas is indeed a rarified occurence. It is ,however, going to be interesting to view this program after a mass exodus of seniors after this very year.
The cubbard will not be completely bare. We have a strong junior class and some talent in the sophomore and even incoming freshmen classes. Football will have 3 starting linemen, 1 starting running back, 2 starting wide reciever coming back on offense with a qb that started a couple of games last year. On defense, there are 4 starting defensive backs and 1 starting linebacker and three linemen that saw extended action last season. Basketball will have 5 players retunring from the team that went to Austin, including 3 players that started during last season. Baseball will have about 8 players returning from this years varsity including 2 starting outfielders, 2 starting infielders, 2 pitchers that have picked up wins this season and plenty of players that have played JV ball which the other schools in our district don't get to do. As a matter of fact the JV programs in all three sports have allowed our athletes to compete at a level where they can learn and grow as opposed to being thrown into varsity competition as freshmen. For now the talent is still in place. Will it stay forever, well that could or could not be the case and we will not know until the talent stops. But with our coaching staff they just adjust and put our teams in the position to be successful and i don't see that changing anytime soon.
8. At last night's Evadale Rebel baseball game I was corrected on something that I thought I had right. I mistakenly had said that the Rebel baseball team had lost a district game and the playoff seeding game when this years senior class were freshmen. In fact this group of Rebel seniors are one win away from going undefeated in district play for four years. They already captured their forth district championship, but with a win over Spurger on Friday they will have won all four championships as the undefeated champions. When you add that to being undefeated in district in football with four championships, four girls basketball championships, two boys track district championships, two volleyball championships, one softball championship and a boys basketball championship that ended up as a state semi finalist. The Evadale Class of 2011 has won 18 of a possible 32 district championship in total       The Rebels have won 11 of a possible 16 championships with the Lady Rebels winning 7 of a possible 16. Congratulations to the Class of 2011 for setting a standard of excellence on the fields, courts and diamonds in the past four years. Oh and as of this week the Rebels are currently in 3rd place in the UIL Lone Star Cup which is awarded to one school in each classification that racks up the most points from advancing in UIL competitions. Evadale is 2 points out of 2nd place and 6 points out of 1st place.
9. As the 2010-2011 school year comes to a close I just have to give a shout out to my beloved Rebels for a year that our community will not soon forget. There have been plenty of memorable things that have happened this year in SETXSports country. We have had to deal with a couple of tragic and untimely deaths. We have seen coaching moves in a couple of great programs but i would be remiss if I did not point out that the Rebels have been the most successful school across the board since school ended in June of 2010 until today. June 2010 - The Rebels baseball team ended the season as he State Runner up falling in the State Championship game October 2010 - The Lady Rebels won the district volleyball championship before falling in the area round November 2010 - The Rebels won their 4th straight district football title and advanced to the Regional Quarterfinal round before                           being eliminated by the evential State Champions, Falls City February 2011 - The Lady Rebels won their forth stright district basketball championship advancing to the Regional Quarterfinal round March 2011 - The Rebels won their first district basketball championship in 10 years and advanced all the way to the State Semi Final                         before being eliminated by evential State Champion - Clyde Eula. Who knows if the Rebels could have pulled out a                         an overtime win if the referees had in fact waved off the shot that never was at the end of regulation.                         The Rebels were chosen as the #2 team in the final poll above Tenaha, who played Eula in the State Final. April 2011 - The Rebels won their 2nd straight district track championship. April 2011 - The Rebel track team finished 2nd in the Area track meet falling only to district rival, West Hardin April 2011 - The Lady Rebels finished 3rd in the softball district race with no seniors on the team and having to repace 5 starters                        from 2010's Area Finalist team. April 2011 - The Rebel baseball team captures its 3rd straight undisputed district baseball championship and remains on track to go                  undefeated for the third straight year. The team is currently ranked #4 in the state withe the playoffs still to come. Several track athletes are still participating in this weekends Regional track meet. Evadale is currently in rd place for the UIL's Lone Star Cup which is awarded to one school from each classification that has the greatest success in UIL activities throughout the year. They are 2 points out of 2nd and 6 points out of 1st. I am proud of all the SETX athletes and coaches, but I had to brag just a bit about the Rebels and hope that the success that they have had this year continues for many years to come. GREAT JOB REBELS AND LADY REBELS!
10. With the win the Rebels have wrapped up the district championship in baseball and complete the year long sweep as they have won district in Football, Basketball, Track and Baseball. Evadale stands at #3 in the UIL running for the Lone Star Cup awarded to the school that has the most success throughout the entire year when it comes to UIL accomplishments. They are 2 points out of 2nd and 6 points out of the lead for the cup. The UIL awards points for each level that the school advances in UIL competition. For the 2010-2011 school year the Rebels have the afore mentioned boys district championships. To those you add girls volleyball and basketball. The football team ended as a Regional quarterfinalist, basketball as a state semi finalist, track finished 2nd in the area meet last week and has a number of participants advancing to regionals. The girls volleyball was an area finalist and basketball was a regional quarterfinalist and the softball team is going to the playoffs as the #3 team from district. The baseball team is hipeing to repeat its run towards state once again in baseball and has a 12-0 record in the district with 2 games remaining. I toot the Rebel Express' horn often on SETX, but it is hard to argue with the success of the last year. especially on the boys side of the ledger. Last year in baseball State Runner Up eliminated by state champions; Windthorst, this year Football - quarterfinalist eliminated by the evential state champions; Falls City, Basketball - State semi finalist eliminated by (on a bad call that should have sent the game into overtime) state champions; Clyde Eula and still in the running to make a run back to state as the #5 ranked team in the state in baseball this year. It can be said that if you play the best it tells you alot about your team and in the case of the Rebels the only teams that have stood intheir way for about a year have been state champions and who knows maybe the Rebels have a chance to add that behinf their name in baseball this year. We will have to wait and see...
11. Thanks for all the posts on this thread! I have shown them to my son who is now at his station. Tonight before you go to sleep join me in saying a prayer for all our service men and women at home and abroad as they defend us and our freedoms.
12. Hard to believe it is already time to be thinking about football, but it is. Thanks Grad for all the hard work on the school previews and everything else that you do to make football enjoyable here on SETXSports!
13. Outstanding Cardinals! Now keep it rolling all the way to state.
14. The Evadale Catfish Festival's SETX All Star Basketball Games are less than a month away and while we have recieved a number of names from schools we have not head from all of them by any means. I still have a few coaches that I have to contact, but if you know of coaches from schools that are not on the list below, please contact them and have them send me a PM or call 409 276-1470 to get nominations in foe the games. Here are the schools we have nominations from as of April 13th 1A Big Sandy - Boys...West Hardin - Boys...Spurger - Boys...High Island - Boys & Girls...Goodrich - Boys...Evadale - Boys & Girls...West Sabine 2A Deweyville - Boys & Girls...Kountze - Boys...Hardin - Boys 3A Silsbee - Boys 4A Lumberton - Boys & Girls Please contact your coaches and have them respond we want these games to be great and to include as many players from as many schools as possible! I have added the schools that I have heard from and as it stands right now we will only have a 1A boys game and a girls game that could include several classifications, but we still need more girls as well. This will be my final plea for names. If you know of a senior that is from one of the schools not memtioned please send me a pm with thier name and a contact phone number. If coaches will not get names to me then we will just go direct. Please help, time is running out!
15. I know this is not sports related and I am sure that many of you have been through this experience before, but I had to share this as it brought this guys to tears. Last Friday my wife and I traveled 1500 miles to Cape May, New Jersey to watch our oldest son graduate from boot camp and become a member of the United States Coast Guard. I watched the man that my son has become match in with about 60 other members of his company and I cried like the day he was born. I was so proud of him and the fact that he will be making a difference in the lives of people and our country. Our second son will leave for Navy boot camp in the fall and I will once again have a good cry as I see him graduate and join the Navy. As I said before, I am sure that many of you have experienced the pride as your son's or daughter's have become members of the armed services, but this was a first for me and I just felt like sharing something that will truly matter after the points, goals, touchdowns and runs have faded away into the pages of a long forgotten yearbook. God bless all our son's and daughter's who have put thier lives on the line to defend and protect our county!
16. Nothing against Coach English and what he did at Nederland this season, but I personally believe that Coach Lawrence Williams from Evadale deserves some recognition for taking SETX's only team to Austin this year. He is a great coach who teaches the game and his players respect him for what he molded them into. Coach L may not show up on the Super Gold team, but believe me when I say he is definately Evadale's Coach of the Year, so far year and that is saying a mouthful when you have Mark Williams leading the program for the Rebels. Thanks Coach L!
17. That is why I have editors for my columns in the Beacon and the Bee. Thank goodness for the editors!
18. The Rebels certainly needed the work today. You might think that allowing the Pirates to get back into this one was not so good, but this kind of game reminds me of the non districk portion of the Rebel basketball teams schedule. They played bigger schools and played they tough it made them a better team later in the year. The Rebels got to work five pitchers and played 14 or 15 players today. As one other post pointed out the Rebels did not get teh tournaments that other teams got at the start of the baseball season so they are needing all the work they can get in. The 18 runs was very impressive and it can be said that the 2 of the 5 pitchers (Franklin and Tucker) had no hit the Pirates threw four innings. I hand it to the Pirates for taking advantage when they got their shot, but the Rebels not only took the body blow they threw they punched back and won by five runs. So to the Rebels if was a good outing that will help down the road. You can learn from some of the trouble spots and make your corrections. Franklin went deep twice and Tucker once for a grand slam. The bunt game looked good advancing runners and even scoring on a suicide squeze. Players got work in different places on the diamond and you had to battle. It was a good day and only one of many still to come. I was also impressed with the Pirates and the way they never let up. Being down 15 -0 and on the brink of the game beingover after 5 innings they never quit and made a game of it. I know that they have beaten Buna and in the district they are playing in it could be an team going to the playoffs, so good luck to you all. Now its back to district and taking care of Rebel business and that is winning games one at a time . The goal is still out ther and you guys know what that is so keep focused and play the way we all know that you can!
19. Great job on another great track meet Coach Conner!
20.
I am sending out information today to coaches that have responded to my request for information about our All Star games. Here is the list of schools that have responded so far Vidor      Lumberton    High Island    East Chambers   Bridge City Hardin    Woodville      Silsbee          Nederland          Spurger That is a good number but I still need to hear from other schools. If you school is not on the list please contact your coaches and give them this phone number 409 276-1470 that is the Evadale Catfish Festival number and if you get voice mail just leave a message. Thanks and we look forward to hosting some great games featuring some outstanding talent. It will be one more reason that you should attend the biggest little festival in Southeast Texas...the Evadale Catfish Festival. You can add West Sabine to the list of schools that have responded but I still need to hear from Burkeville, Chester, Goodrich, Leggett, Hull-Daisetta, Big Sandy, Sabine Pass, West Hardin, Colmesneil, Zavalla, Anahuac, Buna, Kountze, Warren, Newton, Hampshire-Fannett, Orangefield, Hardin Jefferson, WOS, Central, Ozen, Livingston, LCM, PNG, West Brook and PA Memorial. If you have contact with coaches from any of these schools please alert them to this so we can include athletes from as many schools as possible. We are looking forward to some great games and involving as many players as we can. Thanks for any help you can give us! Thanks for all the help!
21. Just wanted to say that the Rebels are 4-0 and they have been playing baseball for 9 days. When the Rebel football team went into the later raounds of the playoffs when they finished the basketball team was into tournament play and they had the opportunity to work their way into playing shape in a trial by fire kaind of way. The baseball team on the other hand has had to jump right into district play knowing that every game counts from the get go. This group of seniors most of whom have played all or part of their four years playing on the varsity have NEVER lost a district game! They have won 7 or 8 playoff games or series and have played longer than any other team in SETX into the season of two of the last three sports and the other just as far as any SETX team. There are five players that have been on all three teams that have made playoff runs this year, Tyler Tucker, Billy Nichols, Adam Stark, Deven Murphy and Kyle Taylor. Of the remaining players on the squad only one is a baseball only player so this group continues to be productive day in and day out. I am thankful for a tough game against Sabine Pass and hope that more games are competitive. Maybe then we will not hear the "weak district" stuff at least until next year, when I am sure that it will come up once again. The Rebels know they have work to do, but they just keep on winning and that is what the record will show as this year come to a close and the class of 2011 brings their high school careers to an end. We are all just hopeing that the final bell will end up with a state championship as the crowning achievement for a group of players who have given us all they have and so much enjoyment to watch and cheer for.
22. I am sending out information today to coaches that have responded to my request for information about our All Star games. 23.

You have to be so careful when you teach school.  In another note, I hear that Burkeville is dropping their Vocational Ag/FFA program. Just not cost effective. I can see the day when Burkeville is united with Newton, West Hardin with Kountze, Evadale with Buna, Sabine Pass with Pt Arthur....In the case of the last one, I could see a church or private school opportunity in SP.
But not all of these schools are hurting badly.  Nothing wrong with small schools.  Bigger is not always better.
Evadale is doing just fine, spoke to a board member recently and they are not even looking at any staff reduction at this time. The Evadale ISD has had to make some difficult cuts the past few years, but it has them in a good position considering the state crisis. If Evadale could keep it's own tax money then there would not be any problem. They will be in the next 2 years....The state money is going to hurt these schools badly.....West Hardin, Evadale, Burkeville are really going to have troubles. I don't know how SP, but the state is going to see all the administration as a waste.
24.
Sounds like a lot of fun and a good cause. Hope you have another successful year ;)
Thanks hope you can make it to all the games!
25. First want to thank the coaches that have responded with email addresses so I can send the nomination forms for the all star basketball games. I intend to send them out on Monday and I still need the majority of coaches email addresses. Please send me a PM and i will handle it as I do my own. I just want to give coaches the opportunity to nominate players and for those players to have a chance to play in one of the all star games. Thanks again!
