Iowa man recovering after being shot by hunting dog
tvc184 replied to bronco1's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I am sure that he forgot to put the safety on. He broke a rule of gun safety by pointing a gun at something that he was not willing to destroy or kill, himself. The guy put the gun on the ground.. then walked in front of the barrel. A lot of good it does to ground the gun when you walk in front of it. If he would have reached to pick it up, the trigger might have hung on a vine or something and maybe shot in in the chest. Never get in front of the muzzle of a firearm whether it is loaded, unloaded, grounded, in someones hand, etc. The guy is lucky that he didn't shoot and kill himself. There are three main rules of gun safety: 1. Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. (He didn't) 2. Always keep your finger off of the trigger until you are ready to shoot. (He did that but the dog broke the rule for him.... because he had already broken rule #1.) 3. Always keep the gun loaded until you are ready to shoot. (He broke that one also). Three rules of gun safety and he broke two of them.... and you can see the result. -
The district is in charge of making rules and tie breakers. They met and came to a decision. It seems some people are mad that the district even had the meeting to determine the playoff spots. That is the way things are always done in a tie breaker. I am sure that no matter which team lost, they would like the other tie breaker better. In reality, other than some Dayton fans, what is there to talk about? The district met, the district made their decision. It followed past practices.

I thought there had to be a meeting at some point to name the playoff representatives. If you didn't, you would have two schools claiming to be the Div II first place rep. You have to get together and say this is the tie breaker. If Lumberton had just ended the game with Nederland and started making calls to arrange their Div II first place finish, would Dayton have had anything to say about it or would they want a meeting to find out who and why the places were given? No matter what happens in a tie breaker, there has to be some kind of meeting no matter who gets it.

That was a tough district for sure back then. WO-S was the fourth place team in the district and probably could have beaten most 4A teams in the playoffs.
-
So are you saying that the players this year didn't believe that they could win and/or they didn't work hard?
-
WO-S stayed home three years in a row, I think at 8-2. I am not sure which year it was.
-
It did happen to Nederland about 6 years ago but Nederland was in Lumberton's shoes. Nederland went as the playoff representative and WO-S (I think) stayed home due to Nederland winning head-to-head. Had it been by points, Nederland would have stayed home.

Same guy. According to Wikipedia, he was only born in Orange because Vinton didn't have a hospital so they drove about 10 miles to Orange. [Hidden Content]

I have said it before on here and I posted the answer more than two weeks ago before this ever came up. They way they did it this year is the same way that 22-4A has done it in the past. There was nothing underhanded. This district uses head-to-head where possible to determine the placing. There were two teams tied for the Division II playoff spots, Lumberton and Dayton. Lumberton won their meeting, so they go as the #1 team in Div II. What is so hard to understand about that? This isn't rocket science.

The UIL has nothing to step into. It leaves the decision of tie breakers up to the local district which is why Dayton is probably going to clean Crosby's clock and move on to the next round.

;D If you take a little trip down to the Museum of the Gulf Coast in Port Arthur (Next to the police station), you will be become educated in that area. Actually, it is a great museum to visit and it covers the Greater Golden Triangle area.

He played Toto in the Wizard of Oz. Bobby Kimball was a singer for the rock back Toto. They had several hits going back to the late 70's. The ones that I think of right away are Africa and Rosanna.

The number of seniors on a team has a lot to do with a team's success. It obviously doesn't mean that they will win or a team with less seniors will lose but it sure tilts the scales.

Yep. Wikipedia has it where people can add information to the site. Some of the people that claim to be from some places is dubious in nature. I guess it comes down to your definition of being from somewhere. I think with wikipedia, if you drove through the town, played at a nightclub there or maybe had a family member that lived nearby, they consider you from that town. It shows Johnny and Edgar Winter as being from Orange but if you look up Beaumont, it shows them being born and raised there also. Wikipedia shows Tracy Byrd and Clay Walker as being from Beaumont and I thought that they were raised and graduated from Vidor. Bum Phillips shows to be from Beaumont and Orange. I guess maybe he was born in one city but raised in another. Like I said, I guess it goes by your definition of what being from somewhere means. Anyway, this area obviously is well represented with a lot of famous people in all lines of work, no matter which city (cities) they are from.

LOL..... come on beards_bro. I agree with Lumberton being the winner head-to-head... but Lumberton being penalized for running up the score? Lumberton was tied with two teams, PN-G and Dayton. Those are the only scores that count. PN-G beat Lumberton so there was no chance to run up any score as you lost. Then the game with Dayton, Lumberton scored and then got a two point conversion on their last play of the game to win by one point. How would they have run up the score? Congrats on Lumberton and good luck in the playoffs.. but running up the score?? ;D

I found this from October 27th when beaumontballer44 asked what happens in a three way tie. Two weeks ago I stated exactly how it would play out.
-
I don't know about the meeting but I posted this very scenario a couple of weeks ago in this forum. It has been decided that way in the past in 22-4A. Once a team is removed from the three way tie (such as PN-G going Div I), then it is back to head-to-head. That is the way it has worked in this district in the past.

The district championship means nothing more than a trophy and being able to say that you were the district champion. At one time that was the sole criteria for going to the playoffs. That obviously is not true today. Now it means another addition to the trophy case and nothing more.
-
You are correct. The only problem is, one team does not go to the playoffs. Under the old system Dayton would be the champion. Not so today.

How did everyone do this weekend? DEER

On a lease, I can never understand why someone even wants to shoot a year and a half old 4-6 point that weighs 95 pounds (maybe) but in east Texas, that seems to be the norm. "If it's brown, it's down". -

Well, I bought it when I was 12 years old. ;D
