  1. Couldnt have said it any better sir. Dubois needs to find a way to get community and player buy in and let the rest work itself out
  2. I fully agree, agreed with it in the post after, different formations will also cause hesitation so backers cant just shoot a and b gaps and just blow plays up before they have a chance to develop
  3. Makes since but running between the tackles will result in the same thing tho, idk i guess we just look at this differently lol im all for some new schemes and new styles, just need to work it in somehow
  4. I agree with the passing idealogy. Give us a dozen or so passes a game. Open the playbook up and not be so predictable. throwback screens, short outs, curls and slants, and throw some deep crossing routes in the mix. Diversify the passing attack and let it compliment the running game
  5. Agree with every point you make. Freshness wouldnt hurt, but buy in is important. Replacing jeff was going to be an uphill battle. i dont think alot of people realize what jeff was to vidor athletics, and how hard replacing him would be.. If jeff wanted to he could run for mayor and win, thats just how well liked he is by the community, and dubois has to find a way to win the support of the kids and community. Dubois is nice as can be, he just has to find a way to get support.
  6. Might be the case; it might not be. Regardless of offensive system the grind will be the same. “Tired of getting beat up at rb”, as if they wont get beat up at rb, or receiver in a spread style system. Football is a grind regardless of system. I believe the coaches will get it turned around and things will improve, numbers will go up, and things will settle down.
  7. All i think that is happening is some fall out with some of the kids because of jeffs departure. Nothing at all to do with dubois, or the other coaches. Think its strictly the change with jeff leaving, because i know some of the kids said they wont play for anyone but Jeff, and if thats their mindset no amount of trying to get buy in from the new coach is going to work.
  8. People throwing a fit over a down year ragging on a coach who had to replace the heart and soul of vidor athletics, LITERALLY, is crazy. Theres going to be growing pains as we move on from the jeff mathews era, and people need to realize that. Dubois needs a few years to instill his vision and get buy in. Freshman group has ALOT of kids, as does JV, so obviously theres some belief in whats going on, just not at the varsity level for some reason.. hmmm
  9. I respectfully disagree with that. These are kids. Ur job as a coach is to lead and inspire, not be a harda**. If kids do not like a coach they will not play for them, which is why i left the program when stephenson was around, as did a few people i was coming up with. No disrespect to Stephenson, but his coaching style did not resonate with alot of the kids, some stuck it out to play for jeff, some did not. Jeff was well liked, kids wanted to play for him. Dubois may not have the buy in from some of the juniors and seniors, hence the lower number this year, but that could all change. Replacing jeffs personality, coaching and management style is a hard ask for ANYONE to come take this over after he left.
  10. They were good. Some years were lower, but the numbers were always up there. Jeff was well liked by ALL THE ATHLETES
  11. Yeah i hear he is not well liked though… rumors as always get stirred up, and I think they are working in a new offensive scheme truthfully, but starting with a new group of freshman instead of trying to implement it in one offseason with the varsity. Theres rumor of jeff making a return, but think that rumor has been going around since the day he announced his retirement😂 not sure if theres any validity to that at all or just speculation Im hopeful for the next few years, dubois just has to find a way to get involvement from the rest of the kids in the school, and i think he can do it, but all we can do is give him time
  12. Yup that is true, but also do not think dubois is going anywhere. I think theres a plan in place, to slowly develop away from slot t 100% of the time, why else would the freshman class be working out of shotgun? Thats the only thing i can think of
  13. I agree with definitely needing to be more creative, i think that in and of itself would bring numbers back up. Mix in more formations, passing concepts, run a multiple scheme system like some schools do. Mix in the slot t with some spread, screens, make it more of a challenge to defend against
  14. Gonna go on a limb and say vidor keeps this close they clean up the miscues on offense, and make this a game. But gonna go with Huffman by 10
  15. Think BC and Huffman will be the teams fighting for first. Will see first hand how huffman looks this friday
  16. I fully agree, i wish there was more participation, but like Tiger33 said, i think the style of play does discourage some kids to play for vidor, but if we wont open up the system, coach dubois needs to find a way to connect with those kids, and sell his vision in order to get participation. Thats one thing i liked about jeff. When i was there jeff was always talking to the kids, always in the halls. He was seen, and heard all the time and i think it definitely spurred some more involvement than what we are seeing. (Just my opinion in the involvement part) I have no kids in the system, and nobody i know at the school anymore so im not sure if dubois is the same way, but i do see dubois at all the football events, so hes definitely there and interacting with the lowerclassmen that way. (I only go to football and some baseball so i use that as my example) I like dubois, and hes a heck of a guy, so lets see what he can scheme up in the next few years and see what happens(: Im confident about it, and i still encourage the people who are dissing on the program to go watch a Thursday night home game and formulate ur own opinion about the upcoming years of pirate football.
  17. Yeah some of that goes on too i believe. I would love to run the offense that vanderbuilt was running. Alot of options with that style of play. i still think the slot t can have a great passing game attached to it, but would involve having teams spread out (similar to what laporte runs, not sure if you want to call that a slot t or more so a west coast style scheme)
  18. Hes always been bashing the program, like a troll when the teams down, and disappears after wins
  19. Well atleast this thread went from debbiedowner to laughing at an imposter 😂 i love it
  20. Yeah JM most definitely would not resort to posting on here i dont think lmao, especially if he hasnt already with all the people that bashed him in the past 💀 Dont think ive ever seen Mr Melon have anything positive to say about the program
  21. Yes, and i hope that its a consistent thing moving forward that vidor does go to the multiple set look. It may even bring some excitement to the program and get numbers back up again
  22. I can agree with that. I wish we were more open offensively, i love the slot t, but i also wish we could spread the ball out, and run multiple sets, and ive seen the freshman group take shotgun snaps pregame with the freshman offense.. so maybe thats in the plan? idk if it was for scout team stuff, or working on it for themselves, but it was a nice changeup, and it looked really good they run slot t during the games, but part of me thinks theyll break that out sometime this year and mix up the offense by running shotgun, and slot t in the same game
  23. Nah im not saying that at all, but there’s rarely times where we have athletes across the field at every position, atleast from my recollection.. I got into vidor football hardcore Montanas junior year, and thats as far back as my memory goes with that lol Could coaching be better? Yeah sure, it can always be better, but to say both of those coaches are bad coaches is a stretch to me.
  24. Things will improve, just have to let it play out.. the next few years will be fun for us vidor fans in my opinion.
  25. QB started at TB in years past, stankovich played both sides some this year and last. Vidor is just thin on the RB group this year, especially with Marlowe suspended, and the starting HB quitting before the season.
