Man.  Crosby really took a hit when Haggerty left.

They will be back, young and inexperience team this year. Might have something even better than the player you mentioned, got a freshman starting on varsity (#11) and putting up good numbers. Definitely have a good shot on him, can knock down the 3 ball. The player you mentioned was at best average in shooting the 3 ball, most of his points came from FT, attacking the basket and outlet layups.

#11 definitely a district MVP candidate his Junior and Senior years, might even break some school records in the meantime.

  2. Good win for BH, look forward to the Crosby matchup and rematch with GCM.  Bryce is having a phenomenal year so far, considering he missed a lot of summer ball due to injuries. I would expect for him to get offensive MVP and or district MVP. That rematch may very well determine the district champs. Unless the GCM coaches keep allowing bad basketball from their players or maybe the coaches don’t know any better. Maybe if GCM didn’t let their lead guard go to Crosby they could attack the basket more.

  3. IAW the season GCM has been having I was surprised this game was so close. GCM have beaten some formidable opponents this year. The game was tied 43-43 at the end of 3rd and ended at 45-49 so if my Crosby ISD education serves me well that means Crosby only scored only 2 points in 8 minutes. I know GCM is decent, but man Crosby could only muster 2 whole points to close out a pivotal game. This is definitely not the Crosby I am used of watching. On the other hand GCM needs a lot of work, they kept the game close. Crosby 5-11 QB did the jump ball at the beginning of the game, so you know they are a small team. GCM have about 4 or more kids that’s 6-0 and above and all they kept doing is shooting bad shots. Missed a whole bunch of threes whereas with a small crosby team they should have been attacking the basket (bad basketball). The GCM coaches never made adjustments so I would assume they approved of the bad basketball. I count #10 taking 3 threes back to back and misse them all. I seen this kid windmill du king in the 10th grade so I know he have hops.
If they play like this at Crosby for the 2nd round of district games they will definitely lose, Crosby gon get that home cooking on them foul calls 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Good game by both teams. I say GCM made a good case for a spot in the Top 25.

You are absolutely correct GCM should be in the TOP 25. However, the ranking officials probably will not change it. Changing it will make the case their initial assessments were totally incorrect. On paper It is clear that GCM should be higher, they have about 4-5 returning varsity contributors whereas BH have less (maybe 1-2). Same with Crosby they have 1 returning varsity contributor. Even with GCM losing two main contributors last year, they have a chance to be even better. The scoring was only with those 2, whereas scoring will come from everyone on the team (more contributors).

When I say contributor I mean someone who played substantial minutes, not just on the team

  5. I been following Crosby sports for many years and don't recall them losing to PNG and Nederland in basketball. IAW the box scores Crosby was basically losing the entire game, gained momentum late in the game and in OT. Crosby always competed for the district title and now seems as if they are going to be competing to just make the playoffs. Something just doesn't seem right.....

  6. Wow! I haven't followed PAM too much this year but I was surprised that BH scored so low too. Early this summer I predicted BH would run away with the district, not a good start of district. Sure its one game, but I also thought GCM could be back to back district champs. They have about 5 returning varsity players from last year. Then here goes SOS again, another PG leave GCM headed to Crosby (2 years in a row). With PJ and Sean departure I didn't expect a whole lot from Crosby, but always expect a tough opponent in Crosby

    District predictions:

    BH, GCM, Crosby, PAM

One of which is a few years away from perhaps being a head coach in the NFL.

Brian Johnson is the exact person my statement was referring to, you must read minds ROTFL!! HC came in and wanted his son to play QB at Crosby then he transferred to Lee and the rest is history. Stellar College career, beat Bama in the Sugar Bowl and now major contributor (QB Coach) for the Eagles and Hurts!

Crosby doesn't have the success they have had without the addition of some key BAYTOWNIANS.

I'd like to see what the young RB will do these next two years. I hope he stays healthy.

Exactly in football, and the same for bball! Honestly a revolving door between both communities though, been for years. Some Baytown school have also benefited from Crosby kids that was not wanted.

So as for multisport athletes Crosby has had that for a long while.

Weird take. Starting RB, QB, and WR all started in the starting 5 for Crosby's B-ball team in 2021.

RB, QB, WR, CB all won a 4 x 100 meter State Championship.

Which means your best team had 4 3 sport athletes, and those athletes were absolutely essential to the team...

I don't think your take is correct. I also think we have had periods like this before where we didn't have a superstar set of seniors. The Netherly, Williams team might have been the most athletic team Crosby ever had. We had what 3 D1 power 5 kids, and 4-5 D2/3 kids on that team?

The year between the Netherly teams and the 2021 team were not super-star ladden teams. You had Craig Williams who really fixed a lot of problems for the Cougars but that defense was terrible. I think we look less athletic sometimes because we have decided to put very good athletes on the defense, and defensive line.

Linemen very rarely play two sports minus something like track and field and when it comes to it that's where we need to get bigger and stronger.

Netherly, Sqwirl, Chase Todd, Patterson, Carlos Grace (4 D1 and 1 D2) - all didn't play bball past 10th grade

All those 2021 athletes played bball throughout (State Championship appearance) and no native D1 offer. Branch came from Goose Creek with that offer

How that work out for those hardworking 2021 athletes?

    Riordan left in 2019

Not the season we wanted losing some core position players next year. Will need new wide receivers, Eudy gets a year with the snaps, two very promising running backs return. It will all be for nothing if those offensive and defensive lineman don't drill and hit the weight room hard this spring and summer.

We won't have the advantage of a bunch of extra practices but we get to start lifting heavy earlier which should help the trenches as they very clearly need to get stronger and faster to compete in 5AD1.

We will have a star linebacker next year hopefully that can help us, but it's so much that needs to be worked on. Good luck young men hope you really stick to the program this offseason and trust your coaches because they can get you where you want to be.

I'm hopeful next season can be a really good year, I've also heard the pipeline is quite full right now at the Freshman/Sophomore level.

I am gonna give you an unbiased opinion, whereas my son attended Crosby up until the 10th grade (2021 Graduate). Afterwards we transferred to Sterling Aviation HS in Houston. I am gonna give that 2021 class success (state appearance) credit to mostly Coach Riordan and staff (Rio recruited LOL), Preito fell into a great situation. Each year the potency of the team has been less and less and talent pool has been less and less (to your own admission).

One difference I noticed with the old and new, under Riordan he wanted kids dedicated to Football. Whereas Prieto came from a smaller school and believes in kids playing multiple sports. As a parent I'm for multiple sports, but I also understand from a coaches perspective. Now one of your future RBs (and possibly your LB) is going to HS Bball and probably will play AAU basketball, possibly missing key weight room time and 7v7 (during AAU bball time) time. Same for Eudy, he probably going to be involved in more off-season baseball than football related activities. It's hard to make up time in ONE YEAR. The program has to be built from the MS. Crosby have the advantage of most 5A schools. They are probably the only 5A school (in the area) with 1 Middle School (and on the same campus). Therefore, the HS coaches can walk to the MS practices daily. When my son was in MS Riordan and the OC (Coach Mann) was at the "before school" practices all the time.

The fact that a Sophomore is the leading LB & RB says a lot. Where are the Jr & Sr players? What made the 2021 group special, they had about 5-7 players on both sides of the ball as starter players.

This might be a relevant story here shortly for your cougars

Not sure why anyone would move in their senior year, unless its a "completely legitimate" move. Completely legitimate- meaning the parents completely moved with a new address in that zone.

Well I guess he is gonna end up at a private school for his senior year.

What about if the school offers a parent a job to get them to come to their school to play football? Is that moving for athletic purposes?

Even if the parent work in that district but don’t live in the district zone, they will get denied by UIL. The address on the PAPF needs to be in the district zone, if not I am pretty certain the DEC will deny. As part of that process the new school coach supposed to do an “in home” visit to verify the athlete resides at the address on the PAPF.

The parent will get a waiver from the district for the student to attend school ( academically), but the PAPF get process totally different (as many of you all know).

Ah you mean when she was in 8th grade. Little different when a former starting WR quits midseason and moves to Crosby

In this particular situation, BH was playing chess while Crosby was playing checkers! Shame on crosby for giving up a McDonald’s AA, and #1 WNBA pick. Plus is she stays in Crosby they probably would have been state champs. Kudos to BH!

Crosby finally dominated a game... granted versus Sterling.

Biggest game of the year for the Cougars if they win out they have a good shot at making the playoffs. Even tho we'd likely play a juggernaut playing a playoff game is always better than not playing a playoff game. BH taught us last year, there are plenty of paper tigers out there and anything can happen.

I think they will be fine against LP and walk over GCM. Probable can play their JV and beat GCM. The way it looks now, the 4th seed would play Longview in Rd 1. They are undefeated, but Ball is undefeated too (Realignment beneficiary). Yep. another Rd 1 upset like BH can happen. Crosby has played a some tough opponents to get them ready for the playoffs.

Eudy finished the game 21-27 for 411 yards and 7 TDs.
Myles has not had a game that looks anything like last years play.  I think there is a good argument to play a healthy Eudy over a not 100% Myles against Laporte. I know someone is going to say “it’s Sterling”, but his first varsity start and he still has to complete the passes. Crosby does not have blazing speed receivers like last year to just throw the ball up so they can go get it. Eudy was hitting those receivers in stride.  Myles has numerous starts against “bad” teams the last two years, and he hasn’t thrown for 400 yards. Eudy does it on first start.  I’m not hating on Myles, just move him to receiver or DB where he can use his legs.

    Convince me different.

CCRed, I think I must concede this argument to you. I thought you was pulling my leg with your stats🤣. I second the motion for a QB change at Crosby and move Cyrin to WR. I must say 77 or 80% completion rate is impressive. not sure whose stats are correct, nevertheless good completion percentage.

Seems to have been a rather unique situation, I do not have any other instances of muilti-year bans I can point to. Also, in that particular case all of the kids were Freshman so perhaps the 3 year varsity ban was due to that, not sure why Exec when so hard in the paint.

Same here, I have not seen this type of punishment given out. Seems like UIL trying to send a message in this instance. I wonder if similar punishment was given to the adult involved i.e. coaches)?

You have an interesting point and the numbers look good, but we have to agree this is the easier part of the schedule. That seems like a viable option to move Cyrin to WR, but does that help the team come playoff time when Crosby at 3rd or 4th seed and they have to play the 1st or 2nd seed in the other district? Sure Eudy will do great against GCM and probably LaPorte, but does he dramatically give Crosby a better chance come round 1? I would imagine that's the team goals, to do well in the playoffs. I say let Cryin finish out his senior year because replacing him I doubt make any impact come playoffs.

On the other hand, playing Eudy gives him some reps as a starter for next year. However the same will apply next year, Crosby don't have athletes at the WR position.
