I'm not sure Snelson could replicate what he does in Dickinson at BH? They're becoming known for producing those TEs but they also have kids like OTs Canon Boone who just signed with Mississippi State and 4* PJ Williams who's one of the top OTs in his class and committed to A&M. They have FBS talent on the defensive line too. Tells you they're very good at the LOS and they use those advantages to maul people. BH already tried that with Gage.

I think they need to go the Lovejoy/Georgetown/Pioneer route where you emphasize QB play and offensive execution. GT went all the way to the title game without a single FBS signee(QB walked on somewhere). BH has been playing decent defense under TW and already has good enough receivers for a system like that, it would just come down to getting or developing QBs that could play at a high level. They need to stay away from the coaches that have 4*s just grazing in the hallways, plus Snelson is probably 60 already and has had some health problems.

If I was BH I would swing for the fences again but I would also have some feelers out to a guy like Riordan just in case.

Metroplex move might be too late. I would assume buying and selling a home would be tough on a coach. I think the Head Coach could be taken care of with all the resources BH has but his assistants would be the tough part. Head Coach of that caliber with uncertainty of bringing in his coaches has to be a turnoff. And your coordinators would be first in line for your old job.

I like the idea of Lovejoy/Georgetown/Pioneer but I think it has to be closer to home. There are some Purple Indians who have the same emphasis you're talking about.

Rumblings are Offense is the emphasis but it will be a different style.

Traden you know your wasting your breath. Everyone outside of BH always know what’s going on, what we should do and how stupid we were for making decisions. It’s like the housewife’s of SETX after a couple of bottles of wine😂.  Glad TW was here and hope they spend a million on the next one just to piss everyone off! We have a good class coming back this year, just hope the spread stays and we don’t start completely over.

I think you heard what I heard. Everyone is excited for The Friends Reunion, why wouldn't Barbers Hill fans be excited for an early 90s offense?

I think that was TWs plan not BH's plan. Sonny boy caught heat this year because his offense wasnt performing and he bailed. I saw zero magic in the play calling this year, in fact QB sneak to the right, left and up the middle was about 80% of the play calls. For TW and his son, it sure looked like they didnt have a clue in how to put a good offense on the field. Poor QB was beat to the ground.

QB Sneak? So you're saying the QB lined up under center 80% of the time? I will disregard and ignore all your comments for lack of football knowledge.

So does this mean we start penciling BH back in for 6th place finishes since Westerberg and his four titles could only average 3rd place? I mean, I guess there's always a possibility they could hire Scott Surratt and start finishing a solid second though.

I bet they reached out to Surratt. And he informed them that he already makes that much money.

Who's next? Wouldn't think John Kay but Westerberg left Allen.

Maybe they should go after a smaller school coach. What about Chris Koetting? Head coach of Canadian.

  5. I met Stan once, I left the conversation excited... meaning I was excited to leave the conversation.

In doing my research, looks like Stan the man was 6-23. The successful year of beating Mexia was under Carpenter. Brandon Carpenter the new coach at Klein Oak. Jesus was also a carpenter. So it will probably take another carpenter for Longhorns to be relevant in football, either Jesus or Brandon doing charity work.

Interesting to see jobs coming open this late in the game

There has to be some blame on Admin for the lateness. The coaches carousel will happen and coaches will do whatever they think is best for themselves. The lateness has to be an administrative issue most likely money and bureaucracy. When was Humble officially opened? It feels like a month. Now, Splendora is going through the process at the end of school and how many coaches are going with him? Hopefully they have someone in mind and hire quickly and Humble hires the coaches going with Shultz quickly.

I hate seeing jobs come open late because it ultimately hurts the athletes. Admin should be there to protect the athletes by hiring quicker and reassigning (if need be) earlier. Unfortunately, coaching jobs will always be open in June.

I would have to say this may be the most back wood - none athletic competing - hold my beer "then bust his ARSE" statement I have read in a long time. Track & Field and Elite Track & Field takes more coaching than most sports including football. You show me a coach who can teach proper vertical or horizonal jumps technique and I will also show you a football coach who relies on just given the ball to the best athlete (which takes no coaching). A good track and field coach has to understand how to set up an actual training program for all athletes (runners, jumpers, throwers, distance, sprinters, hurdlers...) When you get into the major metroplex cities outside of SETX most HS only hire non football coaches as their Cross Country / Head Track Coaches, its very rare that you have football coaches as the Head Track/ Cross Country coach.

Cross Country coaches are not football coaches because it's during the same season. Only knew a few football coaches who coached cross country and they were doing the AD a favor because they couldn’t find another coach.

Like I said to Dayton, we can agree to disagree on the skill level of T&F.

My point about track was they reproduce the same physical movement over and over in competition. Other sports have more variants that require continuous adjustments, adaptations and reactions (relays have some). 100m will always be 100m and so on with every running event. All vertical and horizontal jumps, you replicate the same number of steps and jump off the same leg every time (when it doesn’t feel right, don’t put your pole in the hole or touch the mat or throw the object and you can redo).

I’ll refrain from comparing training for track and power-lifting and how similar they are.

I enjoy watching elite T&F. The Texas State Championships should be on everyone’s sports bucket list.

Let's get back to underachieving Summer Creek Football.

regarding live tackling, my guess is that the exact opposite is true and png's stance is not that rare...from what I hear and know, most teams avoid much heavy hitting in practices as it too often had resulted in injuries that kept players out of games...this is not different from nfl teams either...go to a live practice or training camp and you will not see players hitting the ground...heck, I've actually witnessed a player get yelled at for putting a player on the ground in an nfl practice...does it lead to poorer tackling?  I certainly believe it does, but it does lead to fewer practice injuries, which I think is a huge plus...coaches just don't want players hurt in any circumstance, but losing them in practice drives them nuts.

So rest easy, png fans...your lack of tackling and hitting in practice is not that rare

I've seen plenty of old film, and I hate to break it to you Uncle Rico's living in 1985 (1975 for PNG fans), but tackling wasn't that great back in the day. Some down right atrocious at times. Offense didn't use space like the offensives of today. More space = advantage offense. Offensive athletes are starting in that at the position because guess what, they can make the big play. Good offensive players are going to make people miss. Bad offensive players don’t get the ball. Every school at every level has guys that can run through tackles or make people miss.

Elite track and field takes tons of skill. 6A track and field in Texas is elite. Period.

It does take major talent, but those sport coaches that don't take track coaching seriously, rarely have a TEAM at the state meet.

I assume you saw DK Metcalf get an extremely respectable 15th out of 17 against those "unskilled" track athletes yesterday. He's a beast, but nowhere close in terms of track skill, just as those sprinters would be on a football field. The country's top few sprinters weren't even in that 100m field. Track should not be compared to football.

Also, some of those SC kids are track only.

If DK Metcalf trained to be a professional sprinter he would weigh less than 210 lbs. He’s 6’3 235 right now. Bolt was 6’5 207 for reference. Fred Kerley 6’3 205 is a good comparison.

You are right, track athletes have “physical” skill or athletic ability. But I classify skill as in hitting, shooting, catching, defending, and passing/throwing to name a few. Anything that requires adjustment, reaction, adaptation, and combination of different body functions to perform a task. I see track as a continuous replication of physical activity with the skill level being low because of limited adjustments, reaction, and adaptation.

WE CAN AGREE TO DISAGREE ON THE SKILL LEVEL OF TRACK.

I once knew a 3x state champion track coach and his coaching point was to “run fast and turn left.” But many athletes would run through a wall for that coach.

  10. Nothing to see here. Run fast and turn left, jump over anything in the way. That takes a lot of skill (sarcasm). Football should not be compared to track.

    Devils Advocate:

Track requires the least amount of coaching and team cohesion. 99% of high school track coaches are all football coaches 1st.

Beat me to it.  I know a of a few guys that interviewed and made a comment that he was on the hiring committee.

I personally don't know the guy but that was shady. Watched his teams play solid defense and I think he's probably a good coach. But I wouldn't want that guy leading athletic department. Have some fam that will be going to the new school, and I want the best for them.

Look no farther than Beaumont United, Home of the 2021 basketball state champs.  We've played 11 games last year (really 8 since COVID, but did make the playoffs). Things you'll love about the team? Exciting band (halftime show) that will have you on your feet at halftime. Also, REALLY great tailgating goes on if you're into stuffing your face before the game.  Things you won't like?  Bags and purses are not allowed, only clear bags.  You cannot hang around the stadium after the game, you'll be directed to clear the parking lot within 10 minutes.  (I know those are about the stadium and not the team.  Personally, I can't think of anything that you will not like about the team.  Two good young players in Martin (QB) and Porchia (WR/FS), both currently Sophomores.  Plays in hands down the best stadium in SETX.  Places to eat near the stadium?  Take your pick.  Cheddar's, Pappadeaux's,  or Joe's Crab Shack are amongst a few. You can go simple with Jack in the Box, Waffle House, or Cracker Barrel.  Well, we don't have a solid message board following, but the few that support us are here game week, game day, and post game.

United definitely on the list. Intriguing and would like to see what year 2 brings with the coaching staff. I heard the up and coming talent in Beaumont is extremely high. Cheddars before and Deaux after doesn't sound bad. Best band in the area is a definite plus. Basketball is not a convincing arguement. Does that mean early exit to get ready for basketball season? How many basketball kids play football (I know Rivers)?

  13. Moving back to the 409, not Galveston County, and my Friday Night  fandom is up for grabs. Things that I’m looking for:

    • 11+ games
    • Young talent to follow the next few years.
    • Solid message board following.
    • Great place to eat near the home stadium (cheap cold beers are a plus).
    • One thing I’ll love about the team/school.
    • One thing that I’ll hate about the team/school.

Let's go SETX message boards.  Help me out.

  14. This is the hidden content, please

Correct. Coach Holley was at KP. Left for a year and was the Director of Athletic Operations (I was wrong about AD) of New Caney. He also was on the interview committee for the Porter Job. Decided there wasn't any "good" candidates so inserted himself to be interviewed. He of course got the job over some quality candidates.
