, the Astros are playing very good right now and the relievers have done a nice job recently Hopefully they will keep it up. Still have a couple of players not hitting but finding a way to win

yes you hear the good and bad from me I usually tell it like it is whether you like it or not

I believe Dubon is a gem for the Astros He can play just about any position and comes through in the clutch more times than not at the plate

Yes you are absolutely spot on Lamar hired a good AD and the programs are improving Hopefully they will be winning championships soon

I think I know exactly what a blow out is

The truth for this past season for Lamar

Football even though they were only 7-5, it was still their best season in many years

Mens basketball had their best season in many years 20-13 with only 2 blowout losses to 2 very good teams A&M and Tech. All other losses were close, even the 3 losses to McNeese that had an excellent year and a win in the tournament were close

Baseball had a very good regular season record 40-15

In fact the only major sport that did not do well was softball(I don’t count VB as a major sport)

So yes Lamar athletics had a very good year

I think the biggest disappointment was baseball losing 2 straight in SLC tournament against teams they had defeated in conference. I just don’t know why women’s basketball and baseball do not do well when they get to the conference tournament 

so yes I do know what a blowout is!

The 2 blow out losses were to A&M and Texas Tech

So here is my question to you. Now that I know that you understand Lamar is in a weak conference, when is the last year Lamar won the conference title or the conference tournament 

The real question is why do you think they are better than mediocre?  They haven’t won anything in basketball in several years  Am I missing something?

I agree that men’s basketball, baseball, and football showed improvement this year, however they haven’t won any titles, so IMO they are still mediocre 

Txhoops, you may know a lot about basketball, however you don’t seem to understand that Lamar did not win the conference championship or SLC tournament   I agree that the SLC is the one they should be in, but don’t try and tell me that the SLC is a strong conference  It is one of the weakest in D1 of the NCAA

The subject matter is simple. Did Lamar win the conference championship?  Did Lamar win the conference tournament?

Obviously the answer is NO, so who are the clueless ones?

The sad news is y’all think they are good and let’s remember that they are in one of the weakness D1 conferences in  the NCAA

I do agree that they belong in the SLC and that they have improved, however they are not what I would call good

Yes Lamar is improving in football, basketball, and baseball until they play in the conference tournament Then they tend to stink it up. Your goal should be to win conference championships and make it to postseason games. Yes they are improving 2nd or 3rd is better than 8th or 9th, however you are judged by making it to postseason play and as of today it is not happening 

For Txhoops 63-54 in basketball is a blowout 

They haven’t competed well in conference tournaments basketball included Mc Neese blew them out in the tournament and obviously everyone knows there is no tournament in football 

Did football make it to a postseason game NO Did men or Women’s basketball make it to the ncaa tournament NO did men’s baseball or softball make it to a regional tournament NO

The answer is simple, they DO NOT COMPETE well in the SLC TOURNAMENT If they do in your opinion, why are they sitting at the house every year after the tournament!

He may be a great AD, however the Lamar athletic department and administration settles for mediocrity Football, basketball, and baseball showed improvement, however as of today they can’t win championships and certainly do not compete well when it comes to conference tournaments 

Yes defense. The Bulldog defense has been bad for the last several seasons, especially the secondary. Just look at the Texas High game last season

The other important improvement area needs to be special teams, mainly kick off team and punt team

Offensively, they improved a lot last season

Hopefully they will continue to improve

I will give all 3 of those teams recognition for their season’s improvement, but their not there yet

Sure seems like I mentioned 2 of those quality relievers in a post a couple of days ago. They are certainly pitching terrific I know some of you raved about how good they are. Are you sure!

AggiesWeAre, you are absolutely correct, however the record is still not very good, better than more losses than wins, but still not very good

Yes I have committed when things are good also. I am amazed that you never mention wins and losses only stats. There pitching stats are certainly respectable, not counting King and Ort, hitting so-so. They simply have trouble putting the favorable pitching and hitting together. Last night for example, the hitting was ok, however the pitching was really bad. The next game it may be just the opposite or both may be good. Basically as of today there is no consistency and that is why they are 30-26 and yes they are in 2nd place in their division which is nice, however the overall record at this time is not good

you need to forget about the stats(I know you can’t because you are a stat person) and worry about the wins and losses. Hopefully they will turn out positive at the end of the season 

Y’all must not have watched those 2 last night king didn’t even record an out. It was 3-3 when he came in and 8-3 when they took him out. Ort wasn’t much better If y’all think those 2 are quality pitchers in the major league, y’all must be drinking some crazy stuff. A 4.00 era is not what I would call good A 2 or less yes, bud a 4 no

Astros relief pitchers King, Ort, and Whitley showed that they are not major league caliber pitchers tonight 

I tried my best to let you posters know that HCU would be the only SLC team to make it to a regional. The selection committee will not take 2 SLC teams

The 2 major reasons:

1. They do not think the SLC is a very good conference 

2. There is no revenue and the selection is all about money these days. SLC baseball attendance is poor

HCU will be the only team from the SLC to go to a regional  The committee does not like the SLC. A&M will go before another SLC team does

Thanks for the information young pitcher and offense. If that was the Thursday freshman pitcher, he has pitched very well this season I haven’t seen the offense do much in the playoffs, however they are in the regional finals, that is pretty impressive
