We all think we know who the best players were. Wonder if they’re the same? Lol
GCM going up to 6A is interesting. All their programs are going to struggle. Their middle is great and I’m not hating on her getting offensive. Of course I wish our program was better so my kid could be considered but it is what it is. She did all she could with the team she was on.
Well it doesn’t help that half of this district either didn’t keep stats or have decided to keep them hidden and off of Max Preps. Not that Max Preps is perfect, but besides seeing each team play in person, it’s the only tool available to gauge player performance and metrics.
As for GCM, their pending predicament is really an issue with GCCISD, and Baytown, as a whole. Three high schools have diluted each athletic program to a point of perpetual mediocrity. Yeah, you might get occasional sparks, but nothing sustainable. GCM is about to be thrown to the wolves and be a doormat for the foreseeable future.

Nah, if kills leader wasn’t going to get offensive POY, Sanaa was a good choice.
Agreed. The district's top awards didn't make sense, but neither did the team selections. My gripe about the OPOY going to GCM is that they also had the Setter of the Year and Coach of the Year. If you have the top two offensive awards and coach of the year, you shouldn't have to have a play-in game for 3rd/4th, you would expect a team with those attributes to be markedly better. Honestly, anyone who watched all these teams knows who had the top offensive and defensive players and which had the top coach. Congratulations to GCM, though, but if the snapshot numbers in the Football forum are valid, these could be the last big volleyball awards they see for a while.

If you're talking about BH having 7 girls on the all district team, it's because one is a libero who can play for anyone on back row regardless of rotation or position.
BH also has more depth of talent than the other teams. The girls who were not on the starting six would be standouts on any other district teams.

The coaches/players of the by far and away district champion get hosed in these awards every year.
There's girls on the bench in 7th grade at BH middle school who are more deserving of "all district selections" than some of these at various schools.
And for the life of me, I can't fathom a "coach of the year award" going to a school who didnt win the DC ?
But its 2023, so everybody gets a trophy.
Pretty much.

I'm dumbfounded by these selections, to be honest. How a team that steamrolls the district, whose only "bad" loss was to 6A Vandergrift, and made it to the Region Finals didn't dominate these awards is frankly embarrassing for this district. The 3rd and 4th place teams should not have more players with top district honors than the start to finish 1st place team. The district defensive player is an outside hitter??? Looks like a bunch of sour grapes to me.

Yes. They have almost 3000 kids now. 😳
That was a good game against Fulshear. Fulshear just had more firepower. Never a lull in their offense like BH had and their defense wasn’t letting anything drop. Congrats BH on a good run!
Yep, Fulshear was a 6A, almost right after the last realignment. The most significant difference between the two offenses was that Fulshear was full steam ahead on swinging away; there was too much firepower from their outside hitters. Difficult for BH's defense to pick up all those missiles being fired at them. Overall, BH had a great run and beat outstanding teams in Foster, Friendswood, and College Station; not a bad showing.

Elite 8 out of 128 that started in the playoffs is really good and BH had the toughest road to get there as well.
Yesterday BH had its chances, had leads of 24-22 in set 2 and 19-14 in set 3. Every point matters. Have to wonder how much the quick turnaround from Friday to Sat game impacted the game.
Didn't help that the up ref in the match didn't seem to have a grasp of some of the basic rules of volleyball. That being said, Fulshear came to play and were hitting absolute bombs. Congrats to the Chargers on a good win and good luck at State. Congrats to the Eagles for a dominating district run and a great playoff run. Hopefully, realignment can work in their favor to get them moved to a new, more competitive district. More of the same, plus two more BISD schools, is not what the program needs to grow.

Very suspect offensive play calling by BH.

BH deserves to lose....wow

Why didn't they kick a FG? Just take the points!
Or instead of two straight passes, just line up and run the damn ball.

Just a terrible red zone sequence for BH.

Is there a reason BH abandoned the run?

Friendswood regional quarterfinal matchup should be a good one
BH having to go through a very tough Foster team could play to their advantage. They had to put together a complete match to win and are battle-tested. Friendswood, on the other hand, drew a significantly weaker Randle squad that got handled by Foster twice during their district play.

Undefeated 17-5A Champ Barbers Hill vs 24-6A undefeated champ Clear Springs
BH wins 3-1
20-25 25-22 25-23 25-17
BH has beaten 7 District Champions 6 of which went undefeated in their district
6As Deer Park, Bellaire , Atascocita, Clear Springs
5A Friendswood
4A Huffman
6A Pearland had one loss and were Co-District Champs
BH losses are to #1 6A Grand Oaks, defending 6A champ Dripping Springs, #5 6A District Champ Lake Travis, and 3 private school powers. Arguably the worst lost is to district runner up 6A Vandegrift in Austin.
GCM beat Sterling 3-1.
This area really needs another program to step up and provide BH some competition.

If Sterling can handle PNG Tuesday, then a tie breaker game will be held Friday between GCM and Sterling I assume.
Pretty important game, as the 3rd place gets Manvel and 4th place gets Friendswood.
Bi-District matchups appear to be
BH vs LaPorte
Nederland vs Sante Fe
RSS/GCM vs Manvel
RSS/GCM vs Friendswood
If Ned plays clean then they can beat Sante Fe. The difference between 3rd and 4th is big. RSS and GCM have no shot against FW, but I think that RSS has a punchers chance against this years Manvel team. Not sure about GCM, maybe they do as well. BH should bury LP.

Congrats to Lee I guess. View it as incremental progress, baby steps.

Supposedly a girl played consecutively with JV and Varsity.
I don't think it is against UIL rules if certain stipulations are met.

Based on last night's match, I think the wheels are about to fall off of GCM. Like in football, I wonder how much better a combined GCCISD volleyball team would be. I doubt they would beat BH, but at least they would be much more competitive.

Same was true last year, so what changed?
If I’m not mistaken BH was missing a few starters and key players for last years match; also playing setters that didn’t have varsity experience. That, coupled with questionable coaching decisions, is quite hard to overcome no matter who you are.
Last nights match, based on those set scores, should show you what is closer to reality.
