It was only approved when the school board went against his wishes and forced it to happen.
This is absolutely 100% false. Coach Neumann suggested both boys and girls have split block scheduling. If you have an opinion that's fine but spewing absolute crap solves nothing.
This statement that I made is 100% true. I talked to Supt. Krohn and had her tell me why Coach Neumann was against the basketball class. She asked me to meet with Coach Neumann so he could tell me his reasons for not wanting the class. I sat in his office and listened to him tell me the reasons why he was against the everyday basketball class. I then sat in the Principal's office and had him tell me that Coach Neuman did not want this class. I sat at school board meetings and heard then Supt. Krohn tell them that Coach Neumann did not want this class. This was all before he went in front of the board and told them that he did not want this class to happen. And I was their to here that, too. So, you may come on here and voice your opinion, but to state that I am  "spewing absolute crap" about Coach Neumann not being in favor of this everyday basketball class just shows an extreme lack of knowledge on this subject.
The approved minutes from the board meeting c) Update on Basketball Scheduling – Coach Neumann and Coach English presented information on basketball scheduling.  Coach Neumann gave history and justification of the scheduling system.   Discussion ensued on the equality in double blocking all sports, not just football and volleyball (only two are double-blocked now), and on zero hour.  New 4 X 4 requirements will affect extracurricular.  Coach English presented his information, and Lyn Moye suggested a split block, which would be easy although it is not a double block.  Coach Neumann suggested getting data from Mr. Gibson to determine the possibility of double blocking some sports or all if possible.  Mr. Belaire asked how long this will take.  Dr. Soileau responded there is no way to predict because so much is impacted, but would think the soonest is the end of the second semester (as a good guess).  Mr. Weaver – can we hear some ideas in the next couple of months?  Yes.  Coach Neumann would like to put Sissy Yeaman on this project to do the study.  Ms. Krohn expressed her support of Coach Neumann’s decision.  Coach Neumann added that after the study we will be able to make a decision, but not until the study is complete and data available
Nowhere in those minutes does Coach Neumann state that he is in favor of an everyday basketball class. All he is saying is that he wanted to have a study done to see if it could be worked out.

But what he has gotten in the past doesn't look good for the future.. Why not hire some guy who English shares an office with and has built a good relationship with for some years now? I guess that makes too much sense.. Im sure you could get another girls basketball head coach
So is shafting the girls with the 2 most experienced coaches on the boys squad fair? What about all the other conditions I've presented. I'm just not seeing the argument here. Its like some on here think Coach Neumann deliberately hired a baseball background coach for a science, freshman basketball, freshman football, baseball role to sabotage the basketball's success.  How does Coach Neumann benefit by denying Coach Smith's desire to move? Don't you think if it were possible for it to all work out that Coach Neumann would put Smith as the boy's asst.?
Absolutely not. Coach Neumann will never put Coach Smith in boys basketball. Jusy my opinion, but an opinion that is shared by many.
 5.

I do not think that Coach Neumann benefits in anyway from denying Coach Smith an Asst. Boys Basketball job.
I didn't mean literally. This thread comes off as Neumann picked Walker in hopes of sabotaging the boy's basketball success. Do I need to go through and copy every post in this thread to prove that? My argument is that some on here are not looking at the bigger picture. I see complaints about short changing Coach English and the boys team but are we saying we think its the best idea for ALL kids to have the two most experienced bball coaches to both be on the boys team and leave the girls out to dry?? How do we not know that Walker was hired to fill multiple positions that couldn't be done by simply moving Coach Smith over? What would've happened to the girl's team? Don't the girls team benefit with Coach Smith's experience and leadership??
The girls absolutely benefit from having Coach Smith as their coach. But, he wants to coach boys basketball. He also has a son in middle school and I am sure that plays into the fact that he wants to coach the boys.

As I said before, if this were the 1st time, no big deal. The 2nd time raised a concern. The 3rd time causes people to question the decision, and that's what we are doing.

He gave up the girls' head coaching job 2 years ago, so that he could move over to the boys' asst. job. He was then assigned to the middle school. From what I understand, he took the girls' job back last year because he was told that he had to, when what he wanted to do was take the asst. boys' job that was open. This year he also wanted the boys' asst. job that was open, but again he was denied that job. Their is no doubt that he has made it clear that he wants to coach boys' basketball. Everyone knows that Coach English wants him to be his asst. For some reason, Coach Neumann keeps deciding to not let him have this job.
Explain how you think Neumann somehow benefits from denying Smith an assistant boys basketball job. Do you not think there are other factors that have to be considered concerning other coaching and teaching openings?
I do not think that Coach Neumann benefits in anyway from denying Coach Smith an Asst. Boys Basketball job.
 7.
It was my understanding that the folks on here were wanting the middle school coach moved to the high school to be an assistant. It was stated very clear in the first post of the author of this thread. It was also sent to me in a private message. ;)
I think that maybe the one that posted that did not realize that the coach had been reassigned to the girls' job last year after spending a year at the middle school. It has been clear all along to peeople close to the program that Coach English wants to Coach Smith as his asst. It has also been equally clear that Coach Smith wants to coach boys' basketball.
 8.
No. He's not a middle school coach. He coaches girl's basketball at the HS. Try again. author=AggiesAreWe link=topic=86369.msg1033571#msg1033571 date=1313032528] I believe Mr. Mosley has spoken the truth here. A science teacher was in need therefore Coach Walker was the most qualified due to his certification. The middle school coach that you folks wanted moved up is not certified in that teaching field. Pretty simple hire if you ask me. Just like Mr. Mosley stated, in these times, districts need to hire assistant coaches based on their teaching certificates more so than what sport they are most experienced in. This situation is also reaching the head coaching status as well.

He gave up the girls' head coaching job 2 years ago, so that he could move over to the boys' asst. job.
We agree that coach English is a fine b-ball coach. He is doing a great job, but he shouldn't have to do it alone- he deserves help. Any head B-ball coach will say the same. Yes, the baseball coaches may be football coaches as well, but they KNOW baseball AND football. The new assistant already coaches FB AND baseball, and he has knowledge of these sports. However, from my understanding, he is NOT a basketball guy , and he is not knowledgeable in the sport at all! Neumann had a better option for an assistant, and he failed to do what is best for the program and our kids- for at least the second time since English has been HC in Ned.
This is the third year in a row that the coach that wanted the job, which happened to be who Coach English wanted, has been passed over.
 10.
I am as big of a Nederland basketball fan as anyone but I don't feel Neumann is a bad AD. Nederland is successful in 90% of the sports played at the school. Not just football. Neumann is the one brought in all of those coaches. Should he have brought in a coach with BB experience? Of course. But I don't think one bad move should have got him stripped of his AD duties. He went out and got Coach E from Vidor and paid him. He has brought Nederland a long long way in his 18 years. Quite sure almost every sport has improved. Also I don't think AD/Head Coach should be separated. There is not enough money in school budgets as it is and especially not to pay an extra position. However, I strongly feel AD shouldn't have to be the football coach. Some of these coaches are not remotely qualified to do both jobs. There are several coaches that don't coach football that I feel would do a better job but they were coaching the wrong sport and never got a chance.
The hiring of Coach English was nowhere close to "Coach Neumann going out and getting him from Vidor." Coach Neumann did not want to hire Coach English. He felt like he did not have a choice because the town of Nederland would have put up a fuss if he didn't. In my opinion, this was one of the few times that Coach Neumann has concerned himself with what anybody else wanted.

 12.

Sterling is the guy. Just has to have board approval.  One returning starter and a total of 2 lettermen. One of those plays football, so he wont be practicing basketball for some time once football kicks off.  It will be a very young, small team.  In order for this years team to have any chance at a good record, the staff will have to find a way to motivate kids to work way harder to improve their skills and then learn to play as a team.  It wont be easy to do that in Vidor.  No community support for basketball. No Little Dribblers to help get the little kids learning fundamentals. Heck, Vidor doesnt even have a rec center or outdoor basketball court any longer.  Pretty sad, really.
I don't think LD started in Nederland until about 7 or 8 years ago. I know my son played in the Ned Red League, but it was not LD. And he graduated in '09. I think Coach English may have been the one that started LD in Nederland. That is very sad to hear. You think there is someone in Vidor who is passionate about kids and basketball. Implementing a Little Dribblers program is the 1st step to succes, but it will not happen overnight. Nederland began a LD program about 12-15 years ago (I believe?). It wasn't until a few years ago that their program became competitive. Without fundamentals, any team has a steep hill to climb. Sounds like it's gonna be a rough season for the Pirates.
PS -- So, all the "OLD" college buildings in America can't, according to you, educate one student!  They've been maintained for years.  I just question what they teach them in those buildings   LOL!! Face it dawgnuts, it's a matter of want, not needs.  Just like the first bond: some WANTED a fine new fancy stadium like PN-G.  It was not a NEED!!  In this bond, someone wanted to build a gym-atorium at Wilson.  Some just don't get it.
You're right smitty a 70's car can take you anywhere you want to go if you don't mind stopping every so often and replace some parts. You and your buddies appear to believe that with proper maintenance you can keep a building forever. This is not true, if you have an unlimited budget maybe, but if you don't then you have to realize that all things have a usable life and after that you spend more to maintain the building than it's worth. But I am sure you know all this since you probably have all the facts a figures from your days as the head of a maintenance department that has maintained several campuses up to your excellent standard!

smitty, we've been over this. Our stadium was under threat of being closed down by the safety inspectors because of its poor condition. It would not have made it through Ike. If its replacement wasn't a need for that reason, I don't know what is. I do have one question for the posters on this site. I remember someone saying NHS was built in 1971. Has it undergone a major renovation since then? I know it's had some cosmetic work and a series of technology updates, but has it had a complete renovation? If not, it seems reasonable to have one since the building's been around for four decades.
The High School is the newest school in the district. 3 elementary schools were built in the mid-sixties. CO Wilson Middle School is older than that. The other elementary is 60 or so years old. Central Middle School use to be the High School.

The other assistant coach was in Florida at Disney World w/the Nederland drill team....REALLY!?!?!? I blame it all on Coach Neuman not wanting the basketball team (or any other sports program in Ned) to do better than football b/c he is so insecure and threatened by EVERYONE!!! I dont know if you are familiar with Coach English, but he will most times lose track of the foul count and wont even be aware of it until one of the assistants grabs him by his usually nice suit and tells it straight to his face!  ;) ;D Sorry bout that Coach E! As for Bulldogbacker's post, you are dead on!! Normally Nederland just throws a football coach or anybody that has free-time! I know a perfect person to get hired for the assistant coaching job, but he has to go through college first ;) The guy Im talking about is the true assistant coach a few seats down from English with a clipboard in hand at all times :)
The best coach for this job, and the one Coach English wanted, has wanted it the last two years when a spot was open and our Athletic Director has refused to let him fill the spot.
